"Bud" Roark
BLUFF CITY - Edward "Bud" Harry Lee Roark, 78, 358 Old Weaver Pike, died Sunday, June 9, 2002 at his home. He was born in Blountville, a son of the late David Washington and Eula Barr Roark, and had lived all his life in Sullivan County. He was retired from the Sullivan County Highway Department with 40 years of service and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. He was cared for at home by Wellmont Hospice.
He is survived by three sisters, Edna Cruff of Bristol, Colleen Adkins of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., and Kathleen Corey of Terre Haute, Ind.; four brothers, Ronnie Roark of Bluff City, Howard Roark of Rogersville, Dan Roark of Chilhowie and Richard Roark of St. George, S.C.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, David "Harold" Roark; and a half sister, Margie Sipes.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Rev. Vann Seal and Rev. Rodney Fields officiating. Burial will follow in Crumley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Fred Ford, Rick Ford, Joey Baker, Scottie Harr, Terry Shaffer and David Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Jones, David Jones, Johnny Green, Don Fleenor, Billy Joe Lingerfelt and Herb Boyd. The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 o'clock Tuesday evening at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home.

Ernest W. Tallman
Ernest W. Tallman, 74, of 265 Alhambra Drive, Bristol, Tennessee, passed away on June 8, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late David and Clara Evelyn Arnold Tallman, and was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area. He was retired from Univac and was a mmber of Cross United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing bluegrass music and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was the widower of Kathleen Fleenor Tallman.
Survivors include: sisters, Marjorie Mae Brown of Bristol, Virginia., Hazel Hicks of Bristol, Tennessee, and Lucille Kendrick of Bristol, Tennessee; brother, Wiley Tallman of Columbia, Md.; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Clara Worley and family.
He was preceded in daeth by brothers, James and Earl Tallman.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 8 p.m. in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harry Fleenor and Rev. Wayne Lambert officiating. Committal services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975. Honorary pallbearers include: Randall Brown, Rudy Brown, Ray Dearstone, Jay Tallman, Eugene Tallman, Kenneth Hicks, Roger Worley, Danny Hodges, Gordon Hicks, Chris Brown, Jeffrey Brown and Rick Tallman. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8 p.m. prior to the service.

The funeral servioce for Ruth Perrin Watson will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, June 11, 2002, at 3 o'clock in Oakley-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Larry Ball officiating. Florence Marie Wood
Florence Marie Wood, 23000 Virginia Trail, Bristol, Virginia., died Saturday, June 8, 2002, at NHC of Bristol. She was born in Central Valley, N.Y., a daughter of the late Harriet Powell Wilkes and Walter BransonWilkes, and had lived in Bristol since 2000. She was the widow of Mahlon E. Wood and was of the Methodist faith.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Robert P. (Tamara) McCoy of Bristol, Virginia.; and a granddaugther, Dana Lesli Vitulli of Roslyn Heights, N.Y.

Charles H. Barker
Charles H. Barker, 69, of 1921 Edens Ridge Road died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Sunbridge-Hillside Manor Health Care.
Mr. Barker was born in Sullivan County March 18, 1933. He was preceded in death by his parents, Beulah Haynes Barker and Joseph Orville Barker.
He retired from Tennessee Eastman Co. in 1996, after 42 years of service. He was involved in the following organizations: Kingsport Shrine Club, Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, York Rite, Kinsport Commandry No. 33, Knights Templar, Lynn Bachman Chapter No. 195 Royal Arch Masons, Kingsport Lodge No. 688 Free and Accepted Masons, Jericho Temple, Royal Order of the Jesters, Kachina Club, and Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wfe, Betty B. Barker of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Barker; daughters and son-in-laws, Lynette Barker and Martha and Tom Phillips; four grandchildren; as well as four sisters: Delores Hagy of Bristol Virginia, Jeanette Patterson of Johnson City, Patsy Struder of Knoxville and Carrol LaShorne of Fort Pierce, Fla.
The family will be receiving friends any time at the home.

MARION - Emily Kay Billings, 56, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was employed with Southwestern State Hospital with 30 years of service and was a member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Carl Gene Billings of Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Melissa "Missy" Billings and Adam Richards of Saint Cloud, Fla.; her mother, Ruth Rosenbaum of Marion; two sisters and brother-in-laws, Sara and Mike Ellis of Hampton, Va., and Elaine and John Olinger of Groseclose, Va.; one brother and sister-in-law, David and Marcy Rosenbaum of Marion; one granddaughter, Bailey Fae Richards of Saint Cloud; two step-granddaughters, Laken Moore of Chilhowie and Stephanie Poston of Marion; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Price and Rev. John Graham officiating. Ellis D. Casey
SWORDS CREEK - Mr. Ellis Daniel Casey, 61, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Swords Creek and was a son of Mrs. Sadie Newberry Casey of Swords Creek and the late Mr. Dock Casey.
He was a lifelong resident of the Russell County area and was a disabled miner with Meadows Coal Co.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Vicie Marie Casey, and six brothers, Arvis, Bailey, Bobby, Arnold, Roger, and Ralph Casey.
Survivors in addition to his mother are one stepson, Mr. Frank Hardy and wife, Ann, of Richlands; sister, Mrs. Linda Gross and husband, Bobby, of Lebanon; three brothers, Mr. Ronnie Casey of Swords Creek, Mr. Larry Casey and wife, Sandra, of Swords Creek, Mr. Ernest Casey and wife, Janice, of Honaker; two step-grandchildren, Scott and Kim Hardy, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Ellis Daniel Casey will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Rick Ellis, Rev. Miles Honaker, and Rev. Jerry Rasnick officiating. MARION - James H. Darnell, 76, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at home. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army and Navy. He retired from Brunswick Corp. with many years of service and was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife, Olivette Hall Darnell of Marion; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Nancy Darnell of Ruckersville, Va.; two sisters, Marie Atwood and Fannie Clark, both of Troutdale, Va.; one brother, Ted Darnell of Marion; two stepdaughters, Judy Grady of Christiansburg and Betty Carol Hall of Marion; one stepson, Allen Haulsey of Marion; two grandchildren, Shandi Darnell and Thomas Darnell of Ruckersville; and several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

VANSANT - Carson Graden Gilbert, 84, of Route 1 (Laurel Branch) passed away Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Rufus and Mary Jackson Gilbert. He was a retired coal miner and of the Freewill Baptist Faith. Mr. Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife ,Ethel Mae Gilbert; a grandson, Daniel Gilbert; a granddaughter, Gail Mullins; three brothers, Dayton, Edd, and Evertt; and two sisters, Myrtle and Ada.
Survivors include three daughters, Ruby Mae Hurley, Geneva Jackson and Zella Gay Deel, all of Vansant; seven sons, William Jackie Gilbert, Bobby Rufus Gilbert, Ernest Cooper Gilbert, Roger Carson Gilbert, Jessie Lee Gilbert, all of Vansant, Billy Ralph Gilbert of Raven, Va., and Tommy James Gilbert of Honaker; one brother, Stanford Gilbert of Davenport, Va.; 29 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2002 at Haysi Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson and Rev. Edward Tiller officiating. Burial will follow in Matt Jackson Cemetery, Route 1, Vansant. Pallbearers will be friends. Cecile Virginia Harless, 85, of Bristol Virginia died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice House. She was a lifelong resident of Bristol and a daughter of the late Samuel Davis Harless and Rose Lee Collins Harless Mobley. She was a former employee of Tri-State Discount Store and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.
Survivors include three sisters, Hazel Jones, Nanny Swartz and Oakie Whitaker; nieces Pam Wine, Carol Brewer, Mildred Poore, Terri Dukes, Betsy Sutherland, Sherri Long, Lorrie Gill, Kathy Nelson, Judy Moore, Amber Moore, Amy Sutherland, Tara Dishman and Adrinne Duke; nephews Bob Poore, David Carmody, Travis Powers, Charlie Duke, Zachary Dishman, Brad Nelson, Kevin Carmody, Jacob Disman and Dennis Brewer; special friend, cousin Shirley Thomas, and faithful special friend Carol Holt. She was preceeded in death by a sister, Lolabelle Poore, a brother Thomas E. Mobley, and a nephew, Douglas Carmody.

Paul V. Kelsey
ABINGDON - Mr. Paul Victor Kelsey, 90, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002. He was a native of Blacksburg, and was the son of the late Lucy Bingham and Vane Eugene Kelsey. Mr. Kelsey was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Class of 1935. He served as a lieutenant commander in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a retired employee of Appalachian Power Co. and a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Abingdon. He had been active in civic affairs in Bluefield, W.Va., Pulaski, Va., and Abingdon. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Donald Y. Kelsey.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Isabell Saunders Kelsey; a daughter, Elizabeth Kelsey Hulvey of Abingdon and her husband, Dr. J. Thomas Hulvey; a son, Paul Victor Kelsey Jr. of Wilmington, Del., and his wife, Donna Taylor Kelsey; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Kelsey Hulvey and Margaret Lewis Hulvey, both of Charlottesville, Va., Dr. John Thomas Hulvey Jr., of Roanoke and Gidget Kelsey Bacon of Wilmington; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret Kelsey Atkinson of Blacksburg.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at 11 a.m. in St. Thomas Episcopal Church with Rev. Craig Wylie officiating. Raymond G. Leonard
Raymond G. "Ray" Leonard, 66, of Bristol Virginia went to be with the Lord Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Ray was born Dec. 25, 1935, the son of the late Gentry and Mildred Leonard. He was a retired Bristol Tennessee Police Officer, a member of Central Christian Church and Whiteside Masonic Lodge No. 13, VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975, a U.S. Army veteran, serving two tours in Vietnam and in occupied Berlin and was a recepient of the Purple Heart.
Survivors include Linda Webb; two aunts, Mrs. Hobe (Ruby) Hickman and Hellen Denton.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at 6 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ross Dampier and Rev. Jack Stevens officiating. Committal and burial with military honors will be Tuesday, Dec. 3, in Mountainview Cemetery. Edward T. Liverman
Mr. Edward T. Liverman, 78, of Bristol Tennessee went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Hospital.
Mr. Liverman was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and Superintendent of Sunday Schools at Virginia Avenue Baptist Church. He was a member of Woodmen of the World and was retired from Heilig-Meyers and Hulsey Flooring.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lucille Liverman of Bristol Tennessee; two daughters, Ruth Ann Brower of Johnson City and Jane Hess and her husband, Gary, of Bristol Tennessee; one sister, Margaret Bowery of Bristol Tennessee; one brother, Tom Liverman of Bristol Tennessee; four grandchildren, Daniel Brower, Ken Brower, Jon Moore and Kristy Sproles; one great-grandchild, Austin Brower.
Funeral services for Mr. Liverman will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, in the mausoleum chapel at Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Gary Hess, Rev. Cass Farrior, Rev. Freddie Troball and Rev. PLEASANT GARDEN, N.C. - Jane R. Mains, 72, of 6233 Blue Ridge Road, formerly of 2338 Lumpkin Branch Road, Mountain City, went to be with the Lord Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation Center in Asheboro, N.C. She was a native of Johnson County and was a daughter of the late Hugh and Winnie Phillips Dunn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles David Mains, who died in 1979, and also by four brothers, John Dunn, Ernest Dunn, Dayton Dunn and Wiley Dunn; one sister, Goldie Forrester; one half-sister, Nelle White; three half-brothers, Uylessis Mains, Walt Mains and Author Mains. She was a former employee of Burlington Industries and a member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Brown and husband, Jerry, Alice Robinson and husband, Mike, and Lisa Hackney and husband, Jack, all of Mountain City; one son, David and wife, Sandy, of Pleasant Garden; one sister, Ella Rose Hamm of Knottingham, Pa.; one brother, Barton Dunn of Mountain City; special friends, all of her church and Sunday school friends; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from te Central Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Thomason to officiate.
Music will be under the direction of the church choir.
Pallbearers are Dustin Maynard, Josh Maynard, Michael Robinson, Brandon Robinson, Wes Robinson, Travis Brown, Jermey Brown, Garner Icenhour and Lawrence Watkins.
