Cora S. Powers
DANTE - Cora Skeens Powers, 89, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, in Cambridge House in Bristol Tennessee.
She was born in Russell County, the daughter of the late Luther and Cynthia Jessee Skeens. She was a member of Straight Hollow Freewill Baptist Church in Dante.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Powers; two brothers, Grady Skeens and Dennis Skeens; and two sisters, Ida Chafin and Hazel Patrick.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Meada Brick of Love Park, Ill., Linda Townes of Johnson City, Rhonda Fields of Richmond and Reba Booker of Dante; one son, Woodrow Powers of Charlotte, N.C.; six sisters, Edna Adams, Delphia Dean and Gertrude Dean, all of Castlewood, Nannie Bevins of Lebanon, Beulah Jean Worley of Dante and Novada Robinson of Marion; one brother, Gaines Skeens of Lebanon; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

William J. Tilley Jr.
DUBLIN, Ireland - William J. (Bill) Tilley Jr., 70, former president and chief executive officer of Bristol Steel & Iron Works Inc. of Bristol Virginia died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at St. Vincents Private Hospital, Dublin.
Funeral services will be held Oct. 5, 2002, at 4 p.m. at the Church of the Assumption in Dalkey, County, Dublin, Ireland, and burial is set for Oct. 7, 2002, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption.
A memorial service will be held in Bristol at a later date.

Ronald Torbett Sr.
PINEY FLATS - Ronald L. Torbett Sr., 76, of 5959 Highway 11E died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Piney Flats.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Brooks Torbett.
Mr. Torbett was a member of Edgefield United Methodist Church. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the occupation of Japan. He retired from Unisys Corp. in 1986.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Lee Torbett; his mother, Pansy Flora Torbett of Piney Flats; a daughter, Catherine Torbett Paulk and her husbnad, Curtis, of Johnson City; a son, Ronald Lyle Torbett Jr. and his wife, Lesa Torbett, of Jonesborough; a sister, Joann Conner of Piney Flats; four grandsons, David Paulk of Johnson City, Brooks Torbett of Matthew Torbett and Jason Greenlee, all of Jonesborough; a great-granddaughter, Sarah Greenlee of Jonesborough; and two nieces.
Calling hours will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, in Morris Baker North Chapel. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, from Monte Vista Burial Park. Pastor Estel Williams will officiate. Military honors will be provided by Elizabethton VFW Post 2166 Honor Guard. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Edgefield United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Carrie Mellons, 249 Warren Road, Piney Flats, TN 37686.

Cleve Van Dyke
MAVISDALE, Va. - Mr. Cleve Dave (Grave Digger) Van Dyke, 51, passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at home following a brief illness. Born on Dec. 11, 1950, in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late William (Bill) and Ida Matney Van Dyke. He was owner and operator of V & K Trucking. He was of the Holiness faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil Van Dyke and Earl Van Dyke; and three sisters, Okie Van Dyke Keen, Edna Van Dyke Taylor and Mary Van Dyke Whitt.
Mr. Van Dyke is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mrs. Ruth Ann Van Dyke; two daughters, Bessie Maye Van Dyke Broyles of Alexandria, Ky., and Rebecca Ann Van Dyke of Star Route, Raven; special nephew that was like a son, William (Smiley) Keen of Oakwood, Va.; three brothers, William (Jack) Van Dyke of Oakwood, Zeke Van Dyke of Oakwood and Junior Van Dyke of South Carolina; and five sisters, Polly Van Dyke Lester of Big Rock, Va., Hanna Van Dyke of Patterson, Va., Shelvy Van Dyke Justice of Star Route, Raven, Laura Van Dyke of Clifton Fork, Va., and Juanita Van Dyke Tackett of Oakwood.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, in Penecostal Holiness Church at Patterson with Rev. Dewey Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Hinkle Cemetery at the Upper Big Branch section of Buchanan County. Pallbearers will be James Meadows, William Rowe, Johnny Van Dyke, Otis Meadows, Chris Van Dyke and Bobby Van Dyke. Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil (Ritter) Keen, John (Littleman) Keen, Kevin Broyles, Roy Brown and Luther Meadows.
The family will receive friends at Penecostal Holiness Church at Patterson from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2002.

Charles F. Wilcox
PERRY HALL, Md. - Mr. Charles Floyd "Chuck" Wilcox, 42, unexpectedly went to Heaven in the arms of angels on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at home. He was born in Norfolk and moved to Maryland in 1961. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Floyd K. Bott; grandparents, Cora and Virgil Wilcox; a niece, Melissa Schaum; and aunt, Peggy F. Tolliver.
He is survived by his parents who loved him very much, John Roy and Bonnie Bott Wilcox of Perry Hall; loving sisters, Darlen and husband, Kenny Grupp, and Jeanette and husband, Chris Schaum Sr., all of Perry Hall; loving brother John Roy Wilcox Jr. of Perry Hall; special grandmother, Blanche Louise Bott of Abingdon; special nephews and niece who were loved by Chuck, Chris Schaum Jr., Danny Grupp and Samantha Schaum, all of Perry Hall; special aunts and uncles, Mary and Norman Herrin, Myrtle and Glen Evans and Louise Callahan; and several cousins.
A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at 5:30 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bob McCormick officiating. A committal service will be held Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends following the service. Pallbearers will be Danny Grupp, Chris Schaum Jr., Brent Grupp, Chris Schaum Sr., Kenny Grupp, Wayne Houser, Joe Tolliver and Stephen Zappardo. Funeral services for Bonnie Sue Atkins will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cass Farrior officiating. Burial will follow at Holston Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be deacons of Virginia Avenue Baptist Church, Pete Booher, Harley Taylor, Bruce Taylor, David Ryan, Keith Hobbs, Elwood Bumgarder and Carl Jackson. Mrs. Atkins, 62, of Bristol Virginia, went home to be with her Lord Dec. 1, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice House.

Oliver H. Barker
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Oliver H. Barker died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at Compass Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.
Born in Mendota,Va., he was a son of the late Oliver H. and Ethel Barker. He retired from the U.S. AirForce as a chief master sergeant after 25 years of service. He was the widower of Anetha Myrle Barker.
Surviving are three sisters, Peggy Potter of Blountville, Orpha Jean Gibbons of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Mary B. Tate of Bristol Virginia.
The funeral service will be held Thursday in San Antonio.

Johnathan E. Barr
Graveside services for Johnathan Edward Barr will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Glenwood Mausoleum with Rev. Howard Campbell officiating, assisted by Rev. Phil Kestner.
The infant son of Joseph and Katherine Gammon Barr passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Virginia J. Blair
WASHINGTON COUNTY - Virginia Jackson Blair, 76, passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, in Grace Health Care of Abingdon after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Ben and Nannie Lunsford, and was born April 3, 1926. She was a native of Washignton County of the WallaceCommunity, and lived in Nora, Va., for 11 years. she was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was the widow of her first husband, Willard A. Jackson; and her second husband, Henry W. Blair.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry W. and Bernice Jackson of Castlewood and Roger and Deborah Jackson of Bristol Virginia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis Canter of Bristol Virginia and Barbara and Ike Mohler of Piney Flats, Tenn.; sister, Bertha Judy Almaroad of Blountville; stepdaughter, Hilda Mae Cardwell of Bristol Virginia; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.Walter Statzer and Rev. Charlie Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randall Brooks, Glen Long, John Smith, Ray Heath, Jackie Cox, Rick Salyers, Bill Brooks and Ike Mohler. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Brooks, Roger Brooks, Lynn Lunsford and Gene Eaton. The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Jonathan Swank and the staff of Grace Healthcare for all their love and kindess they showed to the family. Maxie Bookhamer
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - Maxie Bookhamer, 99, passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Life Care Center in Greeneville. She was a native of Dickenson County, where she had lived most of her life. She had been a resident of Life Care Center in Greenville for the past four years. Mrs. Bookhamer taught school in Dickenson County for many years. She was a member of Clintwood Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl J. Bookhamer; her parents, Bruce and Mary Speer; and two brothers, Earl Speer and Adron Speer.
Her survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Ferne Bookhamer of Greeneville; two grandsons, Alan Bookhamer and his wife, Bettina, of Greeneville and Daniel Bookhamer of Greeneville; two sisters-in-law, Della Speer of Clintwood and Ven Speer of Bristol Tennessee; several nieces and nephews; and several special friends.
Graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5,. at Rose Hill Cemetery, Big Ridge section, with Pastor Allen Bonnell officiating. Pallbearers will be Alan Bookhamer, Daniel Bookhamer, Addie Speer, Jim Speer, Pat Simpson, Don Bailey and Roger Stanley.
The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, in Mullins Funeral Home Chapel, where funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m.

JOHNSON CITY - The funeral service for Mr. James Clinton "Jim" Cloyd, 67, of 519 Claude Simmons Road, who died Sunday, will be conducted at noon Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Church. Gladys H. Cox
Gladys H. Cox, 91, of Bristol Virginia died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at her daughter's home.
She was born in Maryville, Tenn., a daughter of the late William T. and Annie Lane Dula, and had lived most of her life in Bristol. She was the widow of Homer Cecil Cox. She was a member of First Church of God. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Pecktol and Mary Delaney.
Mrs. Cox is survived by a daughter, Billie W. Smith of Bristol Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 o'clock Thursday morning in Heritage Chapel of Memories in Glenwood Cemetery with Mr. Elmer Lester officiating. Burial will follow in Shelby Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Wednesday evening at Blevins Funeral Home.

William C. Fletcher
HONAKER - Mr. William Clyde Fletcher, 88, passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, in a Lebanon hospital. Born Sept. 13, 1914, in Deskins, Va., he was a son of the late James Brock and Rachel Vandyke Fletcher. He had lived in the Honaker area for the past 33 years, moving there from Buchanan County. He was a retired coal miner, having been employed by Pittston Coal Co. and was a member of the UMWA Local 1256. He was a member of Concord New Garden Primitive Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Annie Breeding, Ollie Wilkey and Florence Fletcher; and three brothers, Henry Fletcher, Glen Fletcher and Quay Fletcher. In his generation, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Gladys Fletcher of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, William Ersel and Ella Deane Fletcher of Glade Spring and Charles Guy and Jeannie Fletcher of Honaker; four grandchildren, Tammy Montgomery of Glade Spring, Shannon Fletcher of Honaker, Maressa Monk of Bristol Virginia and Renita Hicks of Athens, Tenn.; and four great-grandchildren, Lindsey Massie, Madison Massie, Lance Monk and Michaela Monk also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Elder Danny Smith, Elder Otis Fields, Elder Ked Stacy, Elder Joe Edwards and Elder George Ben Combs officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va.
Pallbearers will be Shannon Fletcher, Bernard Fletcher, Earl Fletcher, Ronnie Fletcher, Joe Kendrick, Tommy Deel, Doug Compton, Greg Fletcher and Aaron Fletcher.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of the Washington District Primitive Baptist Association.
Friends may call at Honaker Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Wednesday, where an evening service will be conducted at 7 p.m.

Marigold Fox
MARION - Marigold E. Cormany Fox, 97, widow of H. Garland Fox, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home. She is survived by four grandchildren, Danya W. Hoffman of Williamsport, Md., Richard F. Wright of Aberdeen, Md., Beth L. Prochaska of Perry Hall, Md., and Matthew W. Wright of Baltimore; four great-grandchildren, Brian Prochaska, Brandon Wright, Elizabeth Hoffman and Chelsea Wright; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Buddy Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service is serving the Fox family.

William N. Greever
SHELL POINT, Fla. - Dr. William Nelson "Dr. Bill" Greever, 84, died Nov. 11, 2002. Dr. Greever was a resident of Chilhowie until 1998, when he retired to Shell Point.
He was the son of Carrie Wendler Greever and William Leonard Greever of Woodville, Ohio.
He was a graduate of Emory & Henry College and the Medical College of Virginia. He served in the U.S. Army 1st Calvary during World War II. He practiced medicine with his brother for more than 40 years at Greever Clinic, Chilhowie.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Retta Stull Greever; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles V. "Chick" and Matanette Greever of Bristol Tennessee; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn Bea Greever-Clements and Ed Clements of Bloomfield, Conn., and Retta Jo Greever Coles and Goerge Coles of Portsmouth,Va.; four grandchildren, Brad David Coles, Allyson Marie Coles, Ashley Nicole Greever and Courtney Leigh Greever; one brother, Dr. Donald L. Greever of Sanibel, Fla.; three nieces, Frazier Bonham Frye of Broadford, Va., Nina Sue Edwards-Rosenberg of Framingham, Mass.., and Judy Follett Anderson of Mauldin, S.C.; two nephews, Joseph "Jay" Bonham of Marietta, Ga., and William L. "Bill" Greever, Hiwassee, Va.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Chilhowie United Methodist Church, Chilhowie. Visitation will follow the service in the fellowship hall of the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Chilhowie United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 367, Chilhowie,VA 24319.

WHITETOP - Howard Edward Hamm, 68, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002.
