Memorial services for E. Faye Booher Pierce will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at Kingsway Baptist Church, 1999 Long Crescent Drive, Bristol, Va. Pastor Donald L. Page will officiate. Mrs. Pierce, 55, of Bristol Tennessee, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center.

ABINGDON - The funeral service for Mr. Mackie D. Prater will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Painter Creek Church of Christ with Mr. Richard Gaminde, Mr. Mike Trent, Mr. Mike Rife, Mr. E.W. Damron and Mr. Hiliary Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Methodist Cemetery, Abingdon.

Charlie Lee Price
DAMASCUS - Charlie Lee Price, 81, formerly of Whitetop, Va., passed away Thursday, Nov.14, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
Born Dec. 27, 1920, at Volney, Va., to Newt and Daisy Powers Price.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by a daughter.
Surviving: wife, Irene Blevins Price of the home; two sisters, Wave Henderson of Rugby, Va., and Annie Kilby of Independence, Va.; one brother, Lacy Price of Chilhowie and formerly of Troutdale; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The body is at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence.
Funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Helton Valley Baptist Church, Whitetop, Va., with interment in Haw Orchard Cemetery, Rugby. Military rites will be conducted at graveside with Rev. Greg Arnold and Rev. Rex Hall officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday night at the Helton Valley Baptist Church form 4 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Linwood Puckett
LEBANON - Linwood Puckett, 88, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, in the Mountain View Retirement Home in Lebanon.
He was born Nov. 23, 1913, in Russell County, the son of the late Jeff and Margaret Robinson Puckett. At an early age his family moved to Maryland. After his retirement, he moved to Kingsport where he became a member of the Lions Club and the First Presbyterian Church. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Navy Seabees in the Pacific area.
He is survived by a son, Russell Puckett; and three granddaughters, all of Phoenix, Ariz.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Marion D. Smithson
Marion Douglass Smithson, 71, 260 Broyles Lane, Bristol, Tenn., died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Sullivan County and son of the late Arthur and Anna Turner Smithson. He was a retired supervisor with Bristol Metals, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of Hickory Tree Union Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Fleenor Smithson; daughter and son-in-law, Teressa and Randy Morrell, Bristol Tennessee; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Connie Smithson, Piney Flats and Mark and Melissa Smithson, Glade Spring; brothers, Woodrow Smithson, Findley, Ohio, and J.C. Smithson, Bluff City; grandchildren, Stephanie, Kevin, Bridgett, Jada, Hope, Amber and Landon; and great-granddaughter, Evie Grace.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gerry Jonas officiating. Burial will follow in Shipley Cemetery.

Pauline C. Sonner
Pauline C. Sonner, 87, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice House.
She was a native of Parker, Va., and moved to Bristol in 1992, before that she had lived in Alexandria, Va. She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Sonner, and one daughter, Lorraine Woodard.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald L. and Winifred L. Sonner, Bristol Tennessee, and Paul E. and Lynne Sonner Bristol Virginia; one sister, Elizabeth Fredrick of Locust Grove, Va. Also surviving are five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at St. Anne's Catholic Church with Rev. Mr. Harry Hall officiating. The family will receive friends at St. Anne's Church from 6-7 p.m. prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Jim Cooper, Calvin Parks, Michael Colley, Ken Barger, Tom Large and Gene Ross. Jasper C. Sweet
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Mr. Jasper C. Sweet, 82, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Jasper will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday morning, Nov. 16, from the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, 200 W. Trade St., Charlotte, officiated by the Reverend David Green. Reception will follow in the fellowship hall. Friends may call upon the Sweet family Friday evening, Nov. 15, from the hours of 6 to 8 p.m. at the Charlotte Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service, 727 E. Morehead St., Charlotte. A private entombment will be held at a later date at First Presbyterian Church.
Jasper was the son of the late Jasper Clyde Sweet Sr. and Polly Cross Sweet. He was born March 2, 1920, in Akron, Ohio, and was raised in Abingdon. Jasper was a 1950 graduate of Virginia Tech where he studied forestry and wildlife conservation and earned his BS and MS degrees. He put his educational pursuits on hold so he could serve his country during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. His early career was spent with the Fish and Game Service in New Jersey. He also worked for Johnson and Johnson, New Brunswick, N.J., as a national sales trainer until his retirement. Jasper was an avid hunter whose favorite place to be was in the woods and an accomplished fly fisherman who spent many happy hours tying flies for himself and others. His love for all living things was apparent in his soft spoken words and tender caring. He also followed the national political scene very closely on a daily basis. Jasper was a friend to all who knew him, never ceasing to put others first. The legacy of his kind and gentle nature will always be with his family and those fortunate enough to have known him.
Jasper is survived by his wife of 54 years, Edythe Fleenor Sweet of the home; and their children, Brant and Kim Sweet of Greenwood, S.C., Philip and Barbie Sweet and Bill and Julie Rayner, all of Charlotte. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Ashley and Jarred Sweet, Carrie Sweet and Davy and Elizabeth Rayner; brother, Robert Bruce and Donna Sweet; brother-in-law, Tom Booth of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
A sister, Hazel Booth preceded him in death.

Boyd Testerman
ATKINS, Va. - Boyd Testerman, 88, formerly of Rugby, Va., passed away Thursday, Nov.14, 2002, at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion.
He was born Aug. 19, 1914, at Troutdale, Va., to Cicero and Bertie Katherine Ball Testerman.
Surviving are two sisters, Stella Finley of Atkins and Ella Echols of Marion; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, Independence, Va., with interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Rugby with The Reverend Fred E. Jennings, Rex Hall and Mike Sage officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Frank Thacker Jr.
HAYSI - Frank Thacker Jr., 45, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at his residence. Born in Dickenson County, he was a son of the late Frank and Marie Nowlin Thacker. He was last employed as a coal truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Tambra Thacker; a stepdaughter, Maribeth Hylton; a stepson, Ellis Hylton; a sister, Patsy Mullins of Bristol Virginia; three brothers, Terry Thacker, Jerry Thacker and Richard Thacker, all of Haysi; a half sister, Norma Jean Thacker of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Thacker Cemetery, Route 1, Haysi, with Rev. Bobby Joe Phipps and Rev. Darrell Thacker officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, at Haysi Funeral Home where a song service will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Karen Diane Tolley
Karen Diane Tolley, 42, of 1705 Volunteer Parkway, Bristol, Tenn., passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of John and Hazel Altizer Cox and was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving, besides her parents, are sons, Timothy Wayne Fandel and Joseph Allen Hutchins; and special aunt, Mary Camper.
Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Dan Thieben officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Weaver Funeral Home.

Kathern I. Troxel
Kathern Isabella "Iszy" Troxel, 74, of Bristol Tennessee, crossed over to be with family and friends at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at her residence.
Born in Bristol Tennessee on Aug. 13, 1928, a daughter of the late Carl Washington and Gertrude Amelia Nave Trinkle, she resided in Ohio for a few years before returning to Bristol in 1975.
Mrs. Troxel was a retired private duty nurse's aide and had worked at More for Less.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Troxel was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Donald David Troxel in 1975; a son, Terry Lynn Troxel; and two brothers, David Trinkle and Edward Trinkle.
Mrs. Troxel will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She cared more for others than she cared for herself.
Survivors include her children, Linda Necessary Garris of Bristol Tennessee; Donald David Troxel Jr. of Dayton, Ohio, Larry Wayne Troxel and wife, Bobbie of Bristol Virginia, and Garry Troxel of Columbus, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Patrica Rosenbalm, Angelia Dean, Robin Burchett, Bobbi Jo Troxel, Larry Wayne Troxel Jr., Amy Malen, Timmy Troxel and Toshia Troxel; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters, Shirley Stambaugh and husband Ted of Bristol Tennessee, Mary Eaton of Bristol Tennessee, Nancy Worley of Bristol Tennessee, and Betty Grindstaff and husband Henry of Bristol Tennessee; three brothers, Hubert Trinkle and wife Sue of Blountville, Eldridge Trinkle and special friend, Linda of Bristol Tennessee, and Donald Trinkle and wife Freda of Bristol Tennessee; special daughter-in-law, Wanda Mullins of Bristol Tennessee; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, in the chapel of Weaver Funeral Home.

Margaret W. Walker
SALTVILLE - Mrs. Margaret Worley Walker, 92, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, in Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie. Born in Oak Grove, she started working in the family store, Oak Grove Mercantile, when she was 12 years old. Mrs. Walker worked in the store until she married and set up housekeeping in the Scott Walker House (The Old Stone House) in Buckeye Hollow. She took her job as homemaker very seriously. After her children were in college, she worked at the Empire Store in Saltville. Mrs. Walker was a member of the Madam Russell Methodist Church in Saltville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lucius Walker; and her son, Merle William Walker.
Survivors: one daughter, Eleanor Walker Jones, Chilhowie and son-in-law, Johnny G. Fred Wilkinson, 77, a resident of Leisure Towers, Bristol, Va., died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at his residence. He was born in Washington County, Va.,. and was the son of the late Charles Thomas and Eda Rebecca Minton Wilkinson.
Survivors include one son, Freddie D. Wilkinson of Bristol Virginia; one sister, Hester Pearl Ornduff of Abingdon; three brothers, C.T. Jack Wilkinson of Abingdon, Claude Minton Wilkinson of Abingdon and Garland Lee Wilkinson of Abingdon; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
