ABINGDON - The funeral service for Mr. Clarence Clayton "Petey" Martin will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at 12:30 p.m. at the graveside in the Mountain View Methodist Cemetery with Mr. Bill Denton officiating.
There will be no visitation in the funeral home.
Those attending the service on Thursday may assemble at the cemetery.
Mr. Martin, 50, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital.

Lee Martin
ROWE, Va. - Funeral services for Mr. Estle Lee Martin will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Roger Hurley and Rev. Ralph Dye officiating. Interment will follow in the Martin Cemetery at Drill, Va.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Martin, 82, of the Drill community, passed away Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, in a Richlands hospital.

Jerry L. McCracken
McALESTER, Okla. - Jerry Lynn McCracken, 35, a former resident of Bristol, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, in McAlester. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving as a combat engineer.
Survivors include his parents, Linda and Bill Johnson, Bristol Tennessee; brothers, Teddy Lee McCracken, Bristol Tennessee and Tony Ray McCracken, Bristol Virginia; and maternal grandmother, Lilly Kate Brown, Bristol Virginia.
Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. Friday in Valley Hills Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Taylor officiating. Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday in Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers Doug Williams, John McClain, Phillip Suppi, Ralph Yates, John King and James Phillips. Honorary pallbearers, men of Valley Hills Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 until 7 p.m. in Valley Hills Baptist Church.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ira M. McKinney
MARION - Ira Marlowe "Mac" McKinney, 75, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002 in the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.
He was born to the late Fred and Nanna Safewright McKinney and was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred McKinney and Millard McKinney; and his sisters, Velma Sexton, Elsie Haggar, Ella Roberts, Mary Miller and Rosa McKinney. He was a retired master sergeant from the U.S. Army having served in World War II, Korean conflict and Vietnam. He was the recipient of many medals of valor to include four Purple Hearts, three Presidential Citations, Bronze Star and Silver Star. He was an Army recruiter in Richlands in 1960-65 and graduated from Wytheville Community College in 1974. He was a member of the Francis Marion V.F.W. 4667. He retired from the Army in 1971 and became a farmer in Smyth County.
Survivors include wife of 50 years, Maxine Thompson McKinney; one daughter, Debbie McKinney, Marion; one son and daughter-in-law, Major Johnny and Faye McKinney, Iowa City, Iowa; four sisters, Iris Rich, Galax, Stella Cox, Rural Retreat, Naomi King, Wytheville and Mozelle Eversole, Wytheville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dickie and Genny McKinney, Nokesville, Va., and Jean and Glenna McKinney Powell, Wyo.; step-grandchildren, Ronnie Ray, Lisa Gilliam and Sandy Roy; special friends, Clement Osborne, C.D. Stickley and Bill Musser; several nieces and nephews; and many friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday from the Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the West Cemetery with full military honors being rendered by the Francis Marion V.F.W. Post 4667. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Bradley's Funeral Home, Marion, is serving the McKinney Family.

Earle B. Mullins
NORTON - Earle B. Mullins, 89, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Norton Community Hospital.
He was a retired teacher and basketball coach with the Wise County School System.
Prior to his teaching career, he worked with the Internal Revenue Service and in later years as a tax preparer. He was a member of the Norton United Methodist Church and was a Sunday School teacher there for many years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Elizabeth Fuller Mullins.
Surviving: wife, Nina Mullins: son, Steve Mullins and his wife, Anna; brother, Ray Mullins; and several nieces, nephews and care givers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Amy Cook-Alcorn officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery in Norton. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Mullins family is being served by Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home of Norton.

Donald J. Neal
ST. PAUL --Committal services for Donald J. "Jerry" Neal will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, with military rites by Highlands Fellowship Veterans Honor Guard of Abingdon. The family will meet at the funeral home and go in procession to the Cemetery, leaving at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Pallbearers will be Ed Rose, Jim Rynes, Lowell Perry, Jimmy Woody, Donnie Rasnake and Stacy Doyle.
Condolences may be sent to the Neal family via e-mail to the funeral home.
Mr. Neal, 57, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Russell County Medical Center, Lebanon, Va.

PINEY FLATS --Graveside service for Cassie Mooney Nienast will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the Church of Christ Cemetery of Fall Branch, Fordtown Road. Pallbearers will be Ralph Mooney, Scottie Sexton, Frank Meadows, Patrick Nienast, James Nienast and Pete Atchley. Condolence may be sent at elawnfuneralhome@aol.com.
Mrs. Nienast went home to be with her Lord Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, in the Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness.

Pauline Orender
WISE - Pauline Orender, 80, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Dec. 10,. 2002, from the home of her daughter in Wise. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Orender; her parents, Paul and Jane (Absher) Neal; a sister, Madge Nichols; and a brother, Palmer Abshire. She was a member of the Oles Hill Community Church in Norton.
Surviving: daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Leon Mullins, Wise; son, Greg Orender, Powell Valley, Va.; two granddaughters, Kimberly and her husband, Kevin Collins, Wise, and Allison Orender, Big Stone Gap, Va.; three sisters, Ruble Hamlin and Helen Tate, both of Norton, and Geneva Skorupa, Powell Valley; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and loved ones, including a very special friend, Susan Collins.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Roger Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jack Peters, James Caudill, Mike Abshire, Rusty Skorupa, Henry Shell, Gary Tate, Patrick Abshire and Derek Stidham. Honorary pallbearers will be Carles Collins, Jimmy Tate, Mike Tate, Dan Stidham, Franklin Tate and Mark Abshire. Charlie Mae Osborne
GATE CITY - Charlie Mae Osborne, 79, entered into rest Dec. 10, 2002, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport.
She was born in Scott County, Va., on June 25, 1923, to the late Logan and Nancy Sanders Gillenwater.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. Osborne; a son, Tomie F. Osborne; and three brothers, Lee, Kyle and Ross Gillenwater.
She was a member of Gate City United Methodist Church and a member of Rebecca Lodge 86.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Robert Collins, Abingdon, and Barbara and Frank Kennedy, Kingsport; four sons and daughters-in-law, Sidney and Kathy Osborne, Paul and Marietta Osborne and Mickey Joe and Gerry Osborne, all of Gate City, and Billy Wayne and Agnes Osborne, Kingsport; four sisters, Gladys Stapleton, Hampton, Va., Patsy Sawyer, McClure, Va., and Pansy Johnson and Barbara Collins, both of Kingsport; two brothers, Jack Gillenwater, Wise, and Bill Gillenwater, Coeburn; 14 grandchildren eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be at 8 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Steve Collins officiating.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
The family will be meeting at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.

Ronnie Wayne Osborne Sr.
ABINGDON - Funeral services for Mr. Ronnie Wayne Osborne Sr. will be held Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at 2:30 p.m. at Abingdon Baptist Church. Dr. Steven W. Pollard, Pastor of Abingdon Baptist Church, Rev. Joe W. Chandler of Knoxville and Rev. Russell Cole, Education and Youth Minister of Abingdon Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Michael Seymore, Mike Osborne, David Osborne, Darren Akers, John Crigger, Ray Eskew, Charles Grogan and James Fullen. Honorary pallbearers will be members of all Sunday School classes of Abingdon Baptist Church, doctors and nurses in Abingdon and Charlottesville who ministered to Ron, and his friends and neighbors.

Mr. Osborne, 61, died Tuesday at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.

William Fred Tate
ABINGDON - Mr. William Fred Tate, 70, passed away Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, in the Grace Health Care of Abingdon.
Fred is survived by several brothers and sisters.
The funeral service will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at the graveside in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Mr. Bill Reece officiating.
Those attending the service on Thursday are asked to assemble at the cemetery.
There will be no visitation in the funeral home.

John G. Thompson
KINGSPORT - Dr. John Guthrie Thompson died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Psalm 116:15.
John was born in Campina Grande, Paraiba, Brazil, in 1941. He received a bachelor of science from Davis & Elkins College and a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Delaware. He has worked since 1968 as a polymer chemist with Eastman Chemical Company where he attained the distinction of Technology Fellow. He was a ruling elder at Bridwell Heights Presbyterian Church.
John was preceded in death by his father, Franklin MacCown Thompson; and mother, Ruth Gueiros Thompson.
John is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ellen (Mensinger) Thompson; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Philip Greninger and their children, Andrew, Kate, Molly and John of Atlanta; son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Jennifer Thompson and their children, Gabriel, Emily, Garrett and Elinor of Chicago; son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Francesca Thompson and their son, Knox of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and daughter, Lydia Thompson of Chattanooga. He is also survived by his three sisters and their husbands and families, Ruth and Mel Chase, Nancy Cain and Jonathan, Agnes and Jim Barkley, Paige and Amanda, Mary Susan and Bill Orester, Gloria and Barbara.
Memorial service will be Thursday at 6 p.m. at the East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 4997 Memorial Blvd. Highway 126, Kingsport, Tenn.
In lieu of flowers, any gifts may be sent to the Christian Education Fund, Bethany Christian Services Fund or Abortion Alternative Christian Services Fund, c/o Bridwell Heights Presbyterian Church, 5101 Memorial Blvd., Kingsport, TN 37664.

Kermit Cartmell Jr.
ROSEDALE, Va. - Mr. Kermit Cartmell Jr., 70, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2002, in a Richlands hospital following a brief illness.
He was born in Wheelwright, Ky., and was the son of the late Kermit Sr. and Myrtle Hall Cartmell, both Buchanan County natives.
He had made his home in the Rosedale area for the past 28 years and was a retired welder for Island Creek Coal Co. at the Central Shop at Oakwood. He was a member of UMWA Local 1671 Keen Mountain and was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He was of the Protestant faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Day Cartmell and one sister, Rosella Cartmell.
Survivors are one son, Keith Cartmell and wife, Katrina, of Rosedale; and one sister, Mrs. Roberta Stapleton and husband, Hubert, of Rosedale.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 31, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Roland Stump officiating. Interment will follow at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetry in Richlands. Pallbearers will be Phillip Keen, Ron Stevens, Mike Justice, Heath Salyer, Eric Salyer and Stephen Salyer. Honorary pallbearers will be Hubert Stapleton, Jimmy Day, C.K. Parker, Bill Salyer and Bobby Justice.

Dan H. Clark
Dan H. Clark, 70, of 172 Rock Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, May 2, 2002, at his residence. He was the son of the late Roda and Mary Leonard Clark and was retired from the Bristol Tennessee Electric System. He was a member of Virginia Avenue Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War and was a member of VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Jean (Large) Clark; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Colan Banks of Bristol, Tenn.; sister Frances King of Piney Flats, Tenn.; two nieces; and one nephew.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 8 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cass Farrior officiating. Committal services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Glenwood Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975. Pallbearers include Gene Kimberlin, Gary Vance, Joe Musser, Arthur White, William Newton, John King and Nathan Stover. Honorary pallbearers include Edward Booher, Wayne Jones, Elmer Barker, Billy Phillips, Larry Banks, Jimmy Johnston, Gene Willis and the retired employees of the Bristol Tennessee Electric System. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m. prior to the service. The family would like to say a special thanks to Dr. Steven Hanor, Dr. Denny Gash and Dr. Robert Blanton and their staffs.

Peggy Ruth Criner
Peggy Ruth Criner, 81, a long-time resident of Bristol, Tenn., died Monday, May 27, following a long illness at Spring Meadows Health Care Center in Clarksville, Tenn.
Peggy was the widow of Dallas A. Criner, also a long-time resident of Bristol, who worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. Mrs. Criner was the daughter of the late George Lipps and Mary Dean of Wise.
She is survived by a son, Larry Criner of Chester, N.J.; a daughter, Pamela Jones of Franklin, Tenn.; two grandsons, Laird and Gregory Criner; a granddaughter, Katherine Jones; two great-grandchildren, Ilona and Laird Criner; three sisters, Jane Clayton of Sarasota, Fla., Virginia Hayes of Memphis and Jeanette Gamble of Knoxville.
A private graveside service was held May 29, at Glenwood Cemetery. The family asks for condolences be mailed to 832 Abington Way, Franklin, TN 37060 and donations be made in memory of Peggy Criner to the National Alzheimer's Association, 919 North Michigan, Suite 1100, Chicago, IL 60611. East Lawn Funeral Home served the Criner family.
