Mary E. Taylor, 59, of 1680 Paperville Road, Lot 18, Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at her home.
She was a native of Washington County, Va., and had made her home in the Bristol area most of her life. She was a daughter of the late William P. and Effie Spriggs Widener.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Yielding of Bristol Virginia; three sons, Jerry Taylor, Kevin Taylor and Keith Taylor, all of Bristol Tennessee; three sisters, Madgie Barton of Vinton, Va., Georgie Holmes of Waynesboro, Va., and Ruby Reynolds of Blountville; four brothers, Robert Widener of Bristol Tennessee. James Fred Widener of Milton, Vermont, Edgar Widener of Roanoke and William Widener of Afton, Va.; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the graveside in Shipley Cemetery with Pastor Tom Hicks officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Roberts, Charles Woodby, Blake Jordon, Marvin Goodwin and Jason Stiltner. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Akard Funeral Home. Melissa Vaughn
NORTON - Melissa "Leigh Ann" Vaughn, 30, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, after surgery at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, Va.
She was a 1990 graduate of John I. Burton High School, Norton, and a 1995 graduate of the University of Virginia's College at Wise. She was an employee of Virginia Department of Veterans Affairs, Big Stone Gap, Va., as a veterans' claims agent.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her father, Johnny Vaughn; and her grandmother, Mable M. Robinette.
Surviving are her mother, Margaret Whitt of Norton; one brother, Josh "Buddy" Whitt of Norton; three sisters, Sheena Whitt and Tammy Thompson and husband Charlie, all of Norton, and Midge Asher and husband Ray of Wise; nephews, Justin and Tommy Asher; aunt and cousin, Gladys and Bobby Boggs; long-time companion, Jake Bledsoe, and his family of Norton; and a host of friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel, Wise, with Rev. Herman (Bud) Beverly officiating. Burial will follow in the Wise Cemetery, Wise. The family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise.

Rebecca Marie Bolling
Rebecca Marie Bolling, 36, of 518 Lynnwood Drive, Bristol, Va., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002. She had lived her life in the Bristol area and was a member of Rooty BranchFreewill Baptist Church. She was a teacher's aide at Van Pelt Elementary School and the daughter of Richard Wright and the late Lois Edwards Wright.
She is survived by her husband, J.C. Bolling of Bristol Virginia; son, Matthew Hunter Johnson; brother, Charles "Chuck" Wright and wife Cindy of Bluff City; sisters-in-law, Kay Bowman and Gay Hopkins; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Howard Campbell and Rev. Eric Ramey officiating. The burial will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Eastern Heights Cemetery.

Timothy Dean Childress
GRUNDY - Timothy Dean Childress, 39 years of age of the Lynn Camp Section of Route 1, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, in Chicago following a brief illness. Born in Tazewell County, Va., he was a son of Ralph Gerald and Nellie OQuinn Childress. He had been a resident of Buchanan County several years and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a graduate of Grundy High School Class of 1981 and was a long-distance truck driver for EPES Transportation Company.
Mr. Childress is survived by his parents, Ralph Gerald and Nellie Oquinn Childress, Tazewell, Va.; his wife, Mrs. Teresa Louise Stump Childress, Route 1, Grundy; one daughter, Deana Childress, Route 1, Grundy; one son, Jeffery Childress, Route 1, Grundy; and one brother, Gerald Scott Childress, Tazewell.
Friends may call at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. with services Saturday evening at 7 p.m.

Grace Davis
JONESVILLE, Va. - Miss Grace Davis, 99, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. She was born May 29, 1903, to Alexander Ewing Davis and Rose Sergent Davis.
She was a member of Russell Chapel United Methodist Church of Jonesville and the United Methodist Women. Miss Davis was a charter member of the Jonesville Women's Club and Jonesville Senior Citizens. She was a founding member of MEOC and served on the board of Mountain Empire Community College. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, American Cancer Society and AARP. She was featured as "Folks You Should Know" in the Bristol Herald Courier for all her volunteer work in the region. On many occasions she had lobbied for rights of senior citizens in Richmond and was active in the Lee County Democratic Party. In 1989, Miss Grace received the "Governor's Award for Voluntary Excellence" in Richmond.
Miss Grace was foremost an educator who helped many students get an education. She was eductated in Lee County, attended Radford University and received her undergraduate degree from Peabody College and received a master's degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Miss Grace taught school in Botetourt County, then in Lee County for over 50 years. After her retirement she taught homebound students and driver's education to senior citizens.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Sheridan, Bill and John Davis; and one sister, Katherine D. Higginson.
She is survived by a sister, Eva D. Rush, Jonesville; one nephew, Jim Davis, Florida; two nieces, Peggy Lord, Towson, Md., and Rose Payne, Abingdon; three great-nieces and four great-nephews; and nine great-great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at the Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Jonesville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Russell Chapel United Methodist Church, Jonesville, with Judge Glen Williams and Ben Davidson giving the eulogy and Rev. John Rash officiating.
Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews, Scott, Todd and Chad Minor, Fred Davis, Mark Harless and John Harris.

Timothy Byrd Fuller
HAYSI - Timothy Byrd Fuller, 39, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at his home. He was a son of George Fuller of Haysi and Irene W. Fuller of Haysi. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Byrd and Martha Fuller, and his maternal grandparents, Ottie and Vergie Willis, He was last employed as a coal miner.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Jayne Fuller Branch of Interlochen, Fla.; a grandson, Brian Branch; two brothers, Jamie Willis of Bristol Virginia, and Patton Willis of Haysi; a sister, Diane Muray of High Point, N.C.; two nephews, Danny Willis and Brandon Willis; four nieces, Chandra Wright, Chancie Bartley, Stephanie Seats and Holly Corral; and several uncles, aunts and cousins.
Funeral service will be Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Haysi Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Darrell Milgrim. Burial will follow in the Byrd Fuller Cemetery at Haysi. George Boggs, P.D. COEBURN - Gregory Emmitt Funk, 52, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at the St. Mary's Hospital, Norton. He was a retired merchant and attended the Trinity Life Center, Coeburn. Surviving are his parents, Alex and Dixie Funk of Coeburn; a daughter, Angela Cvetkovski of Abingdon; four sons, Alex Funk of Atlanta, Jerrod Funk of Sarasota, Fla., Nicholas Funk of Atlanta and Heath Funk of Big Stone Gap; and granddaughter, Truman Elizabeth Hawks of Abingdon. Mabel Harr Hayes
BLOUNTVILLE - Mabel Harr Hayes, 85, died Sept. 5, 2002, at Greystone Health Care. She was the daughter of the late Ernest Harr and Grace Leonard Harr and was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Hayes; a daughter, Shelby Moiser; and a sister and brother-in-law, Cecile and Samuel Ford. Mrs. Hayes retired as an LPN with many years of service at Hoslton Valley Medical Center and Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Fla. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son, Billy Shipley, Mt. Carmel, Tenn.; son-in-law, Guy Mosier, Atlanta; half-sister, Doris Smith; half-brother, Curtis Harr; niece, Peggy Salley; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert L. Kestner Sr.
SALTVILLE - Robert Lee Kestner Sr., 54, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Kestner was born in Saltville to the late Howard and Alma Kestner and was preceded in death by two brothers, Martin and J.W. Kestner; and one infant son, Christopher Kestner. He was retired from H.S. Williams with over 20 years of service and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served as superintendent and a deacon.
Survivors include wife, Claudine Kestner; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robbie and Donna Kestner, Chilhowie, Johnny and Terri Kestner, Saltville, and Chad and Kristie Kestner, Tannersville; two brothers and sister-in-law, Claude Kestner, Saltville, and Garnett and Nioka Kestner, Saltville; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Bessie Kestner, Chilhowie, Christine Griffitts, Marion, Lois and Roy Taylor, Saltville, Mary and Buddy Blevins, Marion, and Wilma and David Bradley, Marion; seven grandchildren, Joey, Cody, Amanda, Nikki, Keleey, Brooke and Richie; special friend, Johnny Barr; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday from the Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with Rev. Donald Wyatt, Rev. Bobby Briggs and Rev. Gary Trout officiating. NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. - Mary Lee Griffith Lester, 67, went home to be with her Lord Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, in a Tazewell hospital.
She was born in Tazewell County and was the daughter of the late Hershel and Dolly Katherine Ball Griffith, both Tazewell County natives.
She had made her home in the North Tazewell area for the past 25 years and was a member of the Clearview United Methodist Church in Doran, Va.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Williamson and Peggy Mullins.
Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Linda Jane Maggard and husband Jimmy of Cedar Bluff, Mrs. Barbara Katherine Musick and husband Claude of Honaker and Miss Connie Beatrice Lester and fiance Jeff Murray of North Tazewell; two sons, Rev. Paul Thomas Griffith and wife Kathy of Doran, Va., and Richard Sherman Lester and wife Christine of Dallas, Ga.; one brother, Paul Kelly Helbert and wife Sue of Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, Lillian Beatrice Davis and husband Carl of Richlands; special nephew, Clyde Eugene Helbert and wife Roberta of Bastian,Va.; 10 grandchildren, Lena Griffith Dayton, Jeffrey Maggard, Tabitha Maggard, Joshua Maggard, Patrick Lester, Rebecca Lester, Jeremiah Musick, Claudia Musick, Crystal Comer and Alicia Comer also survive.

Lucille P. Peters
EXETER, Va. - Lucille Pippin Peters, 87, joined her husband in eternal life and peace Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, in Norton Community Hospital. She was born in Roebuck, Va., the only daughter of Lula Boardwine Pippin and Drewy P. Pippin, who preceded her in death along with her husband of 66 years, Malcom E. Peters. Her earlier years were spent working in the Bristol and Kingsport silk mills. After moving to Exeter, she left her career to raise her family. She was a 54-year resident of Exeter and was a Christian of the Baptist faith. She loved to cook for friends and family.
Surviving are sons and daughter, Ron Peters, Exeter, Gerald Peters, Big Stone Gap, Jim Peters, Big Stone Gap, and Reta Sargent, Appalachia; brothers, Winford G. Pippin, Greendale, Va., and Charlie M. Pippin, Greendale; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and neighbors who will miss her.
Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Gilliam Funeral Home with funeral service at 2 p.m. with Bishop G.D. Peters officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Burial will follow in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens, Big Stone Gap.

Margaret F. Tiberio, 83, of Bristol Virginia, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice House.
She was born in Washington, D.C., and lived most of her life in Rochester, N.Y., before moving to Bristol in 1996. She was retired from Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester. She attended Shakesville Church of Christ. Mrs. Tiberio was preceded in death by a daughter, Doreen Supernault.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Davis and her husband Larry of Phoenix, Ariz., and Cherie Stout and her dear friend Jr. of Bristol Virginia; a sister, Eileen Waterbury of Puyallup, Wash.; a son-in-law, Ronald Supernault of Bristol Virginia; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a niece, Valerie Book.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 o'clock Saturday in the Chapel of Blevins Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Lambert officiating. The committal service and burial will follow at MountainView Cemetery. Music will be provided by Lori Owens. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. RICHLANDS - Pauline Stallard (Polly) Blevins, 81, formerly of St. Paul, left us Friday, April 12, 2002, in a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Lee County, she was the daughter of the late Albert Jackson Stallard and Agnes Williams Stallard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil F. Blevins Sr.; a daughter, Carolyn Sue "Jackie" Bible; three brothers; and two sisters. She was of the Baptist faith and was loved by all who knew her.
Mrs. Blevins is survived by one daughter, Ms. Sally Scott of Richlands; one son, Cecil Blevins Jr. of Keen Mountain, Va.; one sister, Betty Stallard of White Pine, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Kelley McClanahan of Abingdon, Teresa Bible and David Brummitt, both of Morristown, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Rachel McClanahan and Okey E. (Trey) McClanahan III, both of Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
