Jesse R. Maye
BLOUNTVILLE - Jesse Ray "J.R." Maye, 79, of Buffalo Road died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at home. He was born in the Harr community of Washington County, Va., a son of the late John Harrison Maye and Birdie Lee Phillips Maye, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 9th Armored Artillery Division of the 3rd Army in France. He was a longstanding member of Brookside Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir, and was retired from the Bristol Virginia Utilities Board. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Edgar Maye, Paul Maye and Ernest "Bill" Maye.
Survivors include his former wife, Ruth Lewis Wilson Maye of Bristol; three daughters, Jo E. Johnson of Bristol, Deborah C. Taylor and her husband, Troy, of Bristol Tennessee and Susan J. Maye and her husband, Benjamin Hoss, of Johnson City; one son, Ronald K. Maye and his wife, Tammy, of Bristol; one sister, Jennie Lee Bailey of Bristol; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 5 o'clock Sunday in the Chapel of Oakley-Cook Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Potter officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. The committal service and burial will be at 2 o'clock Monday in the National Cemetery at Mountian Home, Tenn. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the church, other special friends and neighbors and special family members, William Maye and Bob Forrester. . Freddie A. McGlothlin
Mrs. Freddie Addison McGlothlin, 91, of 1 Liberty Place, Bristol, Va., died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at a Bristol Tennessee hospital.
She was born in Buchanan County and was a daughter of the late William Henry and Eva Phillips Addison, both Buchanan County natives. She had lived in Newport News, Va., for five years but had made her home in the Buchanan County area most of her life and was a member of Garden Creek United Methodist Church. She attended Hiwassee College and was a graduate of Radford State Teachers College. She was a retired teacher with the Buchanan County School System, teaching most of the time at Vansant Elementary School.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Fullen T. McGlothlin; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors are one son, Mr. Larry McGlothlin of Newport News; two sisters, Mrs. Betty Dowis of Marengo, Ohio, and Ms. Irene Addison of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Mr. Warren Addison of Opal, Va.; two grandchildren, Linda McGlothlin and Billy McGlothlin; and one great-grandson, Christopher Kneeland.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Ancil Childress officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill. Pallbearers will be Donald Addison, Joe Addison, Perry Cook, Jim Cook, Jack Cook, Les Addison and Billy McGlothlin. Margaret B. Mitchell
Margaret Barrett Mitchell, 81, of Leisure Park Towers, Bristol Virginia, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at home. She was a lifelong resident of Bristol, a daughter of the late David and Cora Reed Eaton, and the widow of Thomas W. Barrett and Lee Mitchell.
She was a member of Community Baptist Church and a former employee of Moretz Candy Co., Sevier's Laundry and Holiday Inn.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynda Morrell and her husband, Larry, of Bristol Tennessee; a son, Lester Barrett and his wife, Bridget, of Bluff City; four grandchildren, Mike Morrell of Orlando, Fla., Timothy Morrell of Miami, Teresa Morrell of Kingsport and Pamela Dickey of Mountain City; two great-grandsons, Hunter Dickey and David Morrell.
The funeral service will be conducted at 8 o'clock Sunday evening in Paul Cook Memorial Chapel of Oakley-Cook Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Hazard officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:45 p.m. prior to the service. The committal service and burial will be at 11 o'clock Monday morning in Shipley Cemetery.

George F. Patrick Jr.
George F. Patrick Jr., 73, of Lee Garden, Bristol Virginia, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at his residence. He was born in Bristol Virginia, a son of the late George F. and Hodgie Fleenor Patrick, and was the widower of Kathryn L. Patrick. He was a 1946 graduate of Virginia High School and was a graduate of the Cadet Corps of Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was the charter commanding officer of the National Guard Armory of Company B, 1030th Engineering Battalion of the Virginia National Guard. He was the owner of George F. Patrick and Co. of Honaker, a member of Honaker Lions Club, served on the board of Peoples Bank and the board of Social Services of Russell County. He was a member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church and attended Central Presbyterian Church in Bristol.
He is survived by a daughter, Theresa Patrick Cole and her husband, Ron, of Bristol Virginia; three sons, Stephen Lynn Patrick and his wife, Ellen, of Abingdon, Michael Allen Patrick and his wife, Pamela, of Bristol Virginia and Gerald Frazier Patrick and his wife, Vicky, of Bristol Virginia; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Central Presbyterian Church with Dr. David Wadsworth officiating. Private committal and burial will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park in Abingdon. Honorary pallbearers will be employees and associates of George F. Patrick and Co.

Robert W. Pope
Robert William "R.W." Pope, 79, of 2221 Broad St., Bristol, Tenn., passed away Nov. 30, 2002, after a battle with lung cancer. He was the son of the late John and Lilly Denton Pope and had been a lifelong resident of the Bristol area. He was a retired sheet-metal worker with the Tennessee Valley Authority. He was a member of Anderson Street United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of Woodmen of the World. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving inWorld War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rhoda Pope; and daughter, June Carolyn Pope.
Survivors include brothers Kyle Pope, Charles Pope and Stewart Pope; sisters Virginia Emmert, Edith Wilson, Shirley Roller and Patsy Tomlinson; niece Mary Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Glenwood Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Jerry Fleenor officiating. Military honors will be presented by VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975. Online condolences may be sent at www.weaverfuneralhome.net. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Rosella H. Pruitt
MEADOWVIEW - Mrs. Rosella Hagerman Pruitt, 89, formerly of Raven, Va., went to be with the Lord Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Charles (Joy) Rampley at Meadowview.
She was born in Jolo, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late John and Rhoda Muncy Hagerman, both McDowell County, W.Va., natives. She had made her home in the Raven area most of her life and was of the Church of Christ faith. Mrs. Pruitt will be remembered most as a loving, caring mother who always brought her family together and kept them close. She is also remembered by many as a special friend and caregiver. She was a certified nursing assistant and cared for many people. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Robert Howard Pruitt; two sons, Curtis Leon Pruitt and Delmer Pruitt; grandson, Joseph Wayne Bland; great-granddaughter, Ashley Danielle Shortridge; five sisters; and four brothers.
Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Joy) Rampley of Meadowview, Ms. Wanda McGlothlin of Akins and Mrs. Herbert (Thelma) Justice of Flint, Mich.; two sons, Mr. Elmer "Bud" Pruitt of Raven and Mr. Estel Carl (E.C.) Pruitt of Raven; one sister, Mrs. Alifair Kennedy of Jolo; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a host of nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends also survive.

ABINGDON - Mr. Robert Sawyers (Bobby)Richardson, 72, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Grace Healthcare in Abingdon. Mr. Richardson was a native of Washington County. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of American Legion Post 136. Survivors include one son, Stephen Atwood Richardson of Somersville, Fla.; three grandchildren; one brother, Thomas S. Richardson of Meadowview; three sisters, Cora Lee Richardson Faust of Bristol, Janie W. CHILHOWIE - Ruth Eleanor Erickson Rosenbaum, 85, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, in Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Alfred G. and Clara Dyrud Erickson; and one son, James Ansel Rosenbaum Jr.
Survivors include her husband, James Ansel Rosenbaum Sr.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lib and Larry Maust of Radford and Phyllis and Dick Tuell of Chilhowie; one sister, Val Broston of Great Falls, Mont.; one brother, Ervin Erickson of North Ridge, Minn.; four grandchildren, Tana Adams, David Tuell, Mike Maust and Becky Hodges; and seven great-grandchildren.

Ethel S. Russell
JONESVILLE - Ethel Stanley Russell, 94, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
A lifelong homemaker, Mrs. Russell offered a welcoming home, warm smile and country cooking to the hundreds of friends, family and strangers who appeared at her doorstep over the years. She touched the hearts of everyone who met her and was known affectionately as "Mamaw" and "Aunt Buck-Eye" to the generations who followed.
A member of First Baptist Church of Jonesville, Mrs. Russell was a dedicated Christian witness.
Born on Ramsey Ridge in Dickinson County on Aug. 26, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Elkanah and Nancy Jane Ramsey Stanley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Cephus M. Russell; five sisters; and six brothers.
She is survived by a son, Keith Russell of Jonesville; daughter and son-in-law, Rheta and Bob Humphrey of Jonesville; three grandchildren, David Hand and wife, Linda, of Pennington Gap, Va., Renia Clark and husband, Jim, of Jonesville and Vicki Russell Snodgrass and husband, Jay, of Jonesville; three great-grandchildren, Amy Clark of Wise, Jamie Clark of Charleston, S.C., and Heather Hand of Dryden, Va.; and countless nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Arney-Mullins Funeral Home, Jonesville.
Funeral servcies will follow at 8 p.m., conducted by Rev. James Meade and Rev. Don Jones.
Burial will be in Lee Memorial Gardens, Woodway, Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

James F. Sinnett
James Franklin "Jim" Sinnett, 79, of Bristol Tennessee passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was the son of Collie "Skip" and Vada Lynch Sinnett of Charleston, W.Va., and had been in the Bristol area for around 40 years. He was retired from Sears and was a member of Addilyn Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a former scoutmaster for Troop 11 during the mid-1960s. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II and a U.S. Navy veteran, serving on the USS Wisconsin during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara "Bedell" Sinnett; son, James Edward Sinnett and wife, Debby Perkins Sinnett, of Bristol Tennessee; daughter Nancy Sinnett Vernon of Bluff City; sisters Betty Jane Basham of Charleston and Freida Haller of Cincinnati; grandchildren Stacey E. Sinnett of Newton, N.C., Matt Sinnett of Bristol Tennessee, and Lesley and Hunter Vernon of Bluff City; and faithful dog, Sally.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Brown officiating. Committal service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the National Cemetery in Mountain Home, Tenn. Military honors will be presented by VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975. KNOXVILLE - Cecil H. Weaver, 97, formerly of Bristol, passed away suddenly Friday afternoon, Dec. 6, 2002, at Park West Hospital in Knoxville. Cecil was of the Presbyterian faith. He was retired from Davis Piping Co. He was an avid fisherman. Cecil was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie W. Weaver. Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis A. Calhoun of Mulberry, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Marvin (Sonny) and Ellen Weaver of Knoxville, with whom he made his home for the past 16 years; grandchildren, Barbara Watters of Savannah, Ga., Marvin Weaver Jr., Lynn Wright, Charles Escue, Emily Escue, and Jacob and Tom Weaver, all of Knoxville; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Alvin W. Willis
NORTON - Alvin Woodrow "Woody" Willis, 74, went to be with the Lord, Dec. 6, 2002, from Churchhill Nursing Home, Church Hill, Tenn. He was a lifelong member of East Park Avenue Baptist Church in Norton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean conflict. Woody was a member of the United Mine Workers of America District 50 and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He retired from Old Dominion Power Co. He was preceded in death by his sons "Rod" Willis and Donnie Willis; and several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Anne Stallard Willis of Norton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bo and Anita Willis and David and Cindy Willis, all of Norton; grandchildren Brandy Willis-Lawson, Melissa Willis-Pannell, Leslie Jade Willis, James "Jim Bob" Willis and Alexander Stuart Willis; brother, G.K. "Kelly" Willis of Norton; mother-in-law, Evelyn Stewart Stallard of Norton; brothers-in-law, Frank Stallard of Abingdon and H.R. "Hugh" Stallard of Richmond; sister-in-law, Tracy Stallard of Norton; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert E. Aker
MARION - Robert E. Aker, age 87, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, in Smyth County Community Hospital. Mr. Aker was born in Smyth County, Va., to the late Robert E. and Elizabeth Wassum Aker. He was a life member of Elizabeth Methodist Church, Teas, Va., where he served in several capacities including Sunday School teacher and choir member. He attended faithfully and regularly as long his health permitted. Mr. Aker was a finish carpenter with great skill and for many years was employed in construction and maintenance. He later held several positions as supervisor and management in local industries and retail furniture. He was employed as manager of the Scott Furniture Annex for a number of years. Finally, his employment took him to the defense department at Brunswick Corporation in Marion from which he retired at the age of 68. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert Jackson Aker; two brothers, James and Roy; and three sisters, Margaret, Sue and Bessie. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Edna H. Aker of Marion. Also surviving are his loving in-laws, Agnes and Fred Weiland and Lillian and Dwight Earnest, all of Port Charlotte, Fla., Kathleen "Peggy" and Joseph Hirsch of Baltimore, and Loveita E. Hamm of New Castle, Del. Also, Mr. Aker is survived by very special and dedicated friends, W.S. and Eleanor Meek of Sugar Grove, Va.,. and Hazel and Jay Harper of Marion, whose patience and kindness never ceased through his long illness. Several wonderful nieces and nephews survive. Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Elizabeth United Methodist Church, Teas, Va., with Rev. Kenneth Conner officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Sugar Grove, Va. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. Mrs. Ball, 76, of 2325 South Farmer St., passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, in a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness.
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands is in charge of arrangements.
