Kenneth C. Harding
ERWIN - Mr. Kenneth C. Harding, 64, 326 Catawba St., died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at his residence. Mr. Harding was a Unicoi County native, having lived in Bristol for a number of years. He was a son of Arnold Harding, Erwin, and the late Velma Coates Harding. Mr. Harding was a truck driver for 42 years, having worked for Mason Dixon, MHR and Shoun Lumber Company. He was a member of Upper Higgins Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Harding was a member of Teamsters Local Union 549, member of the Jericho Shrine Temple, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 161. He was a member of Bristol Masonic Lodge No. 162 F. & A.M. and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of the Erwin Elk's Lodge No. 1985 and the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 939.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include: his wife, Eva Rice Harding; two daughters and one son-in-law, Katrina and Clyde Hensley, Erwin, and Benita Harding, Johnson City; three granddaughters, Amanda Hensley, Kayla Hensley and Nicole Hensley, all of Erwin; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m.Wednesday from the Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Reece Harris will officiate. Music will be provided by Jackie Sprose and Inez Chandler. Masonic rites will be rendered by Erwin Centennial Lodge No. 491, F. & A.M. Graveside service and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Evergreen Cemetery, Erwin. Family, minister and friends may gather at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m. Thursday. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the residence of his father, Arnold Harding, 326 Catawba St., Erwin.

James W. Hayes
KONNAROCK - The funeral service for James Warren Hayes will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in the Garrett Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor George Garrick officiating. The committal service and interment will follow at Azen Cemetery in Konnarock with V.F.W. Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975 conducting military graveside rites. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday prior to the funeral service at Garrett Funeral Home. Mr. Hayes, 79, passed away Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at his residence.

Elmer M. Johnson
GRAY, Tenn. - Elmer Miller Johnson, 190 Browns Road, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at the JohnsonCity Medical Center following a brief illness with bone cancer.
Mr. Johnson was a native of Scott County,Va., and a son of the late William Thomas and Ethel Cressell Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Allie Johnson; and by two brothers, Isaac Clinton Johnson in 1995, and one who died in infancy.
He was a member of Cedar Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church in Gray. He was faithful in attendance and especially appreciated all the support and encouragement provided by his church family duing his illness. He was a 1944 graduate of Valley Institute High School, Bristol Virginia. He was a veteran and retired in 1997 with 30 years of service from the Veteran's Affairs Canteen Service, Mountain Home, Tenn. He was a 50-year member of the Johnson City Lodge 486 and was serving as the Worshipful Master at the time of his death. He was also a 37-year member of NolaChuckey-Grandview 194, Order of the Eastern Star, and was currently serving as Worthy Patron.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sue Bowlin Johnson; one son, Dr. Mark Steven Johnson and his wife, Kimberly Anne Jones Johnson of Baton Rouge, La.; and two grandchildren, Isaac Thomas and Bailey Elizabeth Johnson, also of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by two sisters and their husbands, Novella and Walmer Gardner, Kingsport, and Imogene and Grady Shankle, Blountville; three nephews and three nieces, Joe Gardner, Kingsport, Lynn Shankle, Blountville, Ronald Johnson, Bristol Virginia, Nancy Gardner Jessee, Olathe, Kan., Lisa Gardner, Kingsport, and Leta Shankle Ogan, Blountville; and several cousins survive him.
Mr. Johnson was a good husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He will be remembered as always being kind, considerate and one who tried to "do unto others as you would have them do unto you." He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Snyder's Funeral Home, Kingsport Highway, Gray. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Pastor Robert Fultz and Rev. Bob Gilmore will officiate. The Cedar Creek Church Choir will provide music. Charles Cox, Gerald Gray, Terry Nunley, Rick Gilbert, Carlyle Bowman, Harry Wilson, Danny Depew, Allen Fox, Jack Bledsoe and Toby Jobe will be pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the 2002 officers and members of Johnson City Lodge; nephews, Joe Gardner, Lynn Shankle, Ronald Johnson, Gary and Roger Wilson, Brad and Matt Bowlin, Chuck and Jared Bowlin, Jason and Jimmy Horton; and special friend, Freddie Phillips. Brothers-in-law, Jim Bowlin, Colin Bowlin and Joe Horton will also serve as honorary pallbearers. Interment will be at 11 a.m. at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002. Elder John H. Bowlin will officiate.
Flowers will be appreciated, but if anyone would wish to do so, memorial contributions may be made to Cedar Creek Baptist Church, P.O. Box 8956, Gray,TN 37615, or to the charity of one's choice.

Emory Jones
Emory Jones, 73, 2459 Bradley St., Bristol, Va., died Nov. 30, 2002, in James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was born in Norton and lived the past 18 years in Bristol. He was retired from the U.S. Armed Forces, having served in the Navy, Army and Marines. He was a member of Benhams Baptist Church. Mr. Jones brought great joy to his stepfamily.
Survivors include: wife, Fairie Sproles Jones; stepchildren, Robert Leonard and wife Judy, Howard Leonard, Dale Leonard and wife Janice, Fred Leonard and wife Carolyn and Gary Leonard and wife Sandy; stepdaughters, Elizabeth Love and husband Ed, Ardis Jackson and husband Paul, Bonnie Roark, Doris Worley and husband Allen and Carolyn Joyce Billings; 17 step-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carl Jones and Creed Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, in the Benhams Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Keene and Dr. Charles Sherffey officiating. Burial will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975. Pallbearers will be step-grandsons and great-grandsons, Bob Leonard, David Worley, Jeff Jackson, Jon Leonard, Nathan Leonard, Keith Roark and Jason Leonard. Honorary pallbearers will be step-grandsons and great-grandsons, Phil Leonard, Danny Leonard, Eric Leonard, Michael Moore, and in memory of a special step-grandson, Brian Worley. The body of Mr. Jones will be taken to the church one hour before the service.

Jo Anne M. Kimberlin
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Jo Anne Miller Kimberlin, 63, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at her residence. Born Sept. 25, 1939, in Bristol Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late N.C. Miller and Alwilda Morris Miller. She was shipping and receiving manager of Equity Group.
Survivors are daughter, Nicki Bowman Binkley, Ashland City, Tenn.; sisters, Dorothy Miller Vickers, Clarksville, and Phyllis (Ivy) Canter, San Diego, Calif.; and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in McReynolds-Nave & Larson Chapel with The Reverend Mickey Richaud officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Burial will be 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, in East Hill Cemetery, Bristol Virginia. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Chapel.

Flora B. Lambert
WOODWAY, Va. - Flora B. Lambert, 91, passed away Sunday at Lee Regional Medical Center, Pennington Gap, Va.
She was born in Blackwater, Va., the daughter of the late Mack and Sarah Fisher Marcum. She was a former resident of Dunbar, Va., and had lived in the Woodway area for the past 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charlie Boggs; by her second husband, Junis Lambert; by three infant daughters; and daughter Helen Roberts, who passed away Oct. 14, 2002.
Survivors include: her daughters, Geraldine Audia of Dot, Va., Jessie Coleman of Bristol Virginia, Doris Bernardine of Woodway, Patsy Tankersley of Pound and Mildred Stidham of Duffield, Va.; brothers, Robert Marcum of Bellbrook, Ohio, and Cecil Marcum and G.W. Marcum, both of Kingsport; sister, Jeanette Arnold of Kingsport; 17 grandchidlren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at the Sturgill Funeral Home, Pennington Gap, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Wells and grandson Randy Coleman officiating.
Committal graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lee Memorial Gardens, Woodway, Va.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Raymond G. Leonard
Raymond G. "Ray" Leonard, 66, of Bristol Virginia went to be with the Lord Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Ray was born Dec. 25, 1935, the son of the late Gentry and Mildred Leonard. He was a retired Bristol Tennessee Police Officer, a member of Central Christian Church and Whiteside Masonic Lodge No. 13, VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975, a U.S. Army veteran, serving two tours in Vietnam and in occupied Berlin, and was a recepient of the Purple Heart.
Survivors include Linda Webb; two aunts, Mrs. Hobe (Ruby) Hickman and Hellen Denton.
Committal and burial with military honors will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, in Mountainview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Lewis, George Eden, Lloyd Heaton, Gary Privette, Mike Vance, Keith Vance, Robert Crusenberry and Bob Stuart.

Darrell L. Livingston
JOHNSON CITY - Rev. Darrell L. Livingston, 47, 568 Toll Branch Road, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
He had lived all of his life in Johnson City and Bluff City and was a son of the late Joseph Blaine Livingston and Mary Geneva Hicks Livingston.
Rev. Livingston was a graduate of Happy Valley High School.
He was employed by Kennametal Corp. for the past eight years and previously by Alemite Corp. for 18 years.
Rev. Livingston was head elder of Soul's Harbor Apostolic Church for 18 years.
He was a member of International Apostolic Fellowship and Apostolic World Christian Fellowship.
He is survived by his wife, Judy M. Livingston; two daughters, Hannah Victoria Livingston and Amelia Nickell Livingston, both of the home; three brothers, Dwight Livingston, Johnson City, Pastor Gary Livingston, Rome, Ga., and Pastor Dean Livingston, Blountville; one sister, Marsha Linkous, Johnson City; several aunts and uncles; 10 nieces and nephews; four great-nieces and great-nephews; and several cousins
The funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m.Wednesday in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Pastor Denny Livingston, Bishop G.D. Peters and Pastor Norman Mullins will officiate. Shana Livingston and The Livingstons will provide special music. The committal service and burial will follow in the Roselawn Memory Gardens. Serving as active pallbearers will be Rev. Willie O. McCoy
BLUFF CITY - Willie Oscar McCoy, 82, 227 Ash Lane, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Dungannon,Va., and son of the late McCoy and Mary Alice Salyer McCoy.
He was a member of Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church for over 59 years.
He was a retired millwright with Daniels Construction Company and was a World War II Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Edith Dye McCoy; daughter and son-in-law, Linda Kay and Wayne Phillips, Austin, Texas; sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Janie McCoy, Bluff City, and Harold and Kay McCoy, San Diego; sisters, Doris Sexton and Juanita Weeks, both of Kingsport, and Estelle McCoy of Virginia; brother, Everett McCoy, Greeneville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Bryan and Pam Phillips, Keith Phillips, Michael and Bridgett McCoy, Heather McCoy, Yvonne, Dianne and Raymond Christman, Paul and Steve Hughes, Harold McCoy Jr. and Wade McCoy; and great-grandchildren, Rachel Phillips, Abby Phillips and Evie McCoy.
Funeral services will be conducted 8 p.m.Tuesday in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Hudson officiating. Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday in Glenwood Cemetery. Betty W. Moore
DELAND, Fla. - Betty Widener Moore, 82, died Dec. 11, 2002.
She was active in the St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Eastern Star, United Way and other community projects when she lived in Abingdon. After retiring and moving to Deland she became very active in the Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church, Eastern Star, Garden Club and other activities in Deland.
Surviving are her husband, Jesse E. Moore, Manor On The Green Nursing Home, Daytona Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Peggy Moore Blackwell, Abingdon; one son, Robert E. (Bobby) Moore, Shelby, N.C.; two sisters, Rosa W. Sherman, Bristol Tennessee, and Rita Widener Collins, Park City, Utah; three granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Dec. 4, 2002, in Deland.

Thomas J. Powers
LYNCHBURG - Thomas Junior Powers, 78, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002. He was the widower of Opha Mae Weaver Powers.
Born in Chilhowie, he served in the U.S. Army under Gen. George S. Patton during World War II. He worked as a barber and owned a sporting goods and recreation center in Bedford.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Atkins of Lynchburg and Phyllis Moffett of Cary, N.C.; a son, Thomas Powers Jr. of Lynchburg; seven grandchidlren, Meggin, Kendra, Thomas III, Scott, Tray, Ashley and Kara; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in Lynchburg.

Arlis E. Richardson
MARION - Arlis Eugene Richardson, 70, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport. He was the son of the late E.G. "Bill" and Ruby Vernon Richardson. Arlis had a successful managerial career at Brunswick Corporation for 23 years. In 1974, he became the proprietor of Richardson's Jewelry in Marion for nearly 25 years. He accomplished this despite not receiving a formal college education through talent, hard work and life experiences. However, Arlis understood the improtance of college, as evidenced by his support in the educational accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He served his community in a quiet manner, as a Little League coach, business leader, loving husband, wonderful father and "cheerleader" for those in need of words of encouragement and support. His zest, joy and humor in life improved the quality of many individual lives. He will be sadly missed by his extended family and friends, but especially his best friend, his son, Jeff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy and Ronnie Richardson; and a sister, Edwina Duncan. He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Troxell Richardson of Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Monnie and Tony Powers of Marion; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Lynn Richardson of Marion; three grandsons, Trent Richardson of Fairfax, Va., and Jordan and Joseph Powers of Marion; his sister, Lynda Hill of Knoxville; and one brother, Buford Richardson of Chillicothe, Ohio. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Gene Little and Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tueday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Flowers will be appreciated; however, those wishing to donate in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Smyth County Educational Foundation, P.O. Box 92, Marion,VA 24354. James W. Settles
RURAL RETREAT - James Walter "Tiny" Settles, 44, died Monday, Dec, 2, 2002, at his residence.
He was born in Henry County and was preceded in death by his mother and dad, David and Sue Tibbs. He had worked at Visador for over 20 years.
Survivors include: father and stepmother, David and Dorothy Settles, Roanoke; three brothers, David Settles and wife Debbie, Rural Retreat, Billy Settles, Rural Retreat, and Joey Settles, Rural Retreat; six sisters, Lois Tibbs, Rural Retreat, Betty Havens and husband Michael, Atkins, Bonnie Hutton, Marion, Mary Aliff, Roanoke, Vickey Settles, Roanoke, and Bonnie Clark, Roanoke; half brother, Rex Settles, Roanoke; three special friends, Curtis Tibbs, Robin Combs and Barry G.; and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m.Tuesday evening from the Bradley's Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720. HONAKER - Funeral services for Mr. Rickie Herbert Street will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Pastor Larry Brooks and Rev. Gerald Lester officiating. Interment will follow in the Street Cemetery at Rowe, Va.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Street, 39, passed away Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at his home.

Aliese R. Sykes
Aliese Rudder Sykes, 85, of 47 24th St., Bristol, Tenn., passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, 2002, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Sykes was a native of Dante, Va., and had lived in the Bristol area for the past 43 years. She was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband, Leonard Sykes; one son, John Sykes of Poquoson, Va.; two daughters, Janet Sykes Lawson of Ashburn,Va., and Jeanie Sykes Whitehead of Simpsonville, S.C.; two sisters, Mae Banner of Anderson, S.C., and Louise Carpenter of Kingsport; two brothers, Harry Rudder of Winston-Salem, N.C., and James Rudder of Greenville, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in the Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Gary Chenoweth officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at the Akard Funeral Home.

Donald Lee Teague
PINEY FLATS - Donald Lee Teague, 56, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was a native and lived most of his life in the Bristol area. He was a self-employed mechanic, was an avid CB'er and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his father, James H. Teague.
Survivors include wife, Brenda J. Teague; son and daughter-in-law, Donald L. Teague Jr. and Lalonia D. Teague, Bristol Tennessee; mother and stepfather, Frances and Ernest "Bud" Hicks, Piney Flats; four brothers, Bill Teague, Florida, Jack Teague, Bristol Tennessee, Jim Teague, Florida, and Charles "Shorty" Teague, Blountville; three grandchildren, Marcus Alan, Jacob Alexander and Cameron Blake; and several nieces and nephews.
