ABINGDON - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Woods, 71, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born April 10, 1931, in Russell County. She moved to Washington County with her husband in 1950. She was preceded in death by her husband, Shad Henry Woods and her son, Daniel Clayton Woods.
She is survived by two sons, Henry Woods Jr. and John Elbert Woods, both of Abingdon; three daughters, Bernice and husband, George Hopkins, of Conetoe, N.C., Glenda Woods of Abingdon and Julie Fuqua of Bristol, Va.; two sisters, Lillian Wheeler and Jackie Young, both of Abingdon; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Don Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in National Cemetery at Mountain Home, Tenn.
The family will receive friends Monday before the service beginning at 10 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Richard Stiggers, Anthony Hudson, James Fulton, George Hopkins, Walter Dicks and Tom Potter. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Pitts and Kenneth Toomey.

Jewel Beaver
Jewel Beaver, 92, of Bristol Virginia, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Bristol and was a daughter of the late Charles F. and Lucy Stuart Arnold Beaver. She was a charter member of Euclid Avenue Baptist Church.
She is survived by one sister, Laura Beaver of Bristol Virginia; a brother, George Beaver of Dallas, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, Dec. 19, 2002, in the Heritage Chapel of Memories in Glenwood Cemetery with Dr. David Stancil officiating. Private interment will follow in Shelby Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to First Baptist Church, 1 Virginia St., Bristol, VA 24201 or charity of choice. The family will receive friends from 1 o'clock until the service hour in the Heritage Chapel of Memories.

The committal with military honors conducted by the VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975 for Robert Howard Brooks will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tracy Graves, Jim Rodeback, Kurt Carlson, Bruce Higley, Joe Swiney, Wayne Burnette, Bob Carrier and Jimmy Smith.

MEADOWVIEW - Mrs. Virginia Moore Buckles went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002.
She was the daughter of the late Samuel Moore and Lilly Ester Moore of Meadowview, and was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Buckles; and a son, William S. Buckles.
Survivors include her husband, W.D. Young Jr.; daughters, Barbara Woodward, Kissimmee, Fla., and Bettie Minton, Abingdon; a son, Joe Buckles, Abingdon; sisters, Mable Hagy and Margaret Jones, both of Chilhowie, Beulah Hilliard, Kingsport; a brother, Samuel V. Moore, Raleigh, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the graveside in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Dr. Carl Young officiating.
Pallbearers will be Bill Buckles, Josh Buckles, Jonah Buckles, Adam Buckles, Erik Hinchey and Gino Vindetti. Those attending the service on Thursday are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 1:30 p.m. The procession to the cemetery will leave the funeral home at 1:45 p.m.

RICHMOND - Girtie Church Bucknam, 86 years of age, formerly of Buchanan County, passed away Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at her home following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Kennel and Rosa Nichols Church. She was a resident of Buchanan County several years prior to moving to Richmond in 1978. She was a member of Little Prater Church of Christ and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Bucknam was preceded in death by her first husband, Russell Thorpe and by her second husband, Lester Bucknam.
She is survived by two daughters, Judy T. McGeorge, Mechanicsville, Va., and Margaret Sue Massengale, Sandston, Va.; one son, George R. Thorpe, Franklin, Tenn.; three sisters, Marie Linkous, Bristol Virginia, Elizabeth Strom, Asheville, N.C., and Suby Ratliff, Grundy; one brother, Banner Church, Vansant, Va.; four grandchildren, Terry Chalkey, Pam West, Amy Eachus and Kasey Massengale; and four great-grandchildren, Danielle Chalkey, Brittany Chalkey, Laura West and Katelyn West.
She was preceded in death by one grandson; one sister; and one brother.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Little Prater Church of Christ with Evangelist Michael Trent officiating with burial to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, Va.
Friends may call at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday afternoon at 5 p.m. The body of Mrs. Bucknam will be moved to the Little Prater Church of Christ Thursday morning at 10 a.m. to await the funeral hour at 11 a.m.

DAMASCUS - Carl Francis Fleenor, 76 , died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, in the Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va., and was a school teacher in the Washington County schools. He was a graduate of William King High School, Emory & Henry College and did graduate studies at VPI and UVA.
He taught at the Barrack School, Greendale High School, Cleveland High School, Damascus High School and Holston High School. His teaching included science and math.
He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church.
He was a son of the late Carl F. Fleenor and the late Nina Hines Fleenor.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Thompson Fleenor of Damascus; two sons, Richard Carl Fleenor of Damascus and Eric Francis Fleenor and wife, Ann of Abingdon; one sister, Evelyn Aikman of Chevy Chase, Md.; two brothers, Donald Fleenor and wife Jeanette of Abingdon and Dr. Kenneth Fleenor and wife Shirley of Pulaski, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Campbell Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Robert N. Lominack Jr. and Rev. Leonard Smith officiating. Graveside services will be held in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Knollkreg Memorial Park with military honors by Highlands Fellowship Honor Guard.

CEDAR BLUFF - Miss Rachel Elizabeth Fox, age 10, passed away Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, in a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Johnson City, Tenn., was the daughter of Robert A. and Susan N. Fox of Cedar Bluff.
She was a life long resident of Cedar Bluff and was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church of Claypool Hill, Va.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, J. Van and Annie F. King and Claude M. Newman Sr.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by sister, Sarah Allison Fox of the home; brother, Matthew Robert Fox of the home; maternal grandparents, Claude M. and Doris Newman of Falls Church, Va.; paternal grandparents, Milford L. and Shirley Fox of Oil City, Pa.; and great-grandmother, Mrs. Lucille Newman of Norlina, N.C.

KING, N.C. - Millard Fillmore Greer, 92, formerly of Rural Retreat, Va., died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was born April 9, 1910, in Troutdale, Va., the son of Leonard and Mary Vaught Greer. He was a member of Troutdale Primitive Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tressie Sullivan Greer. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mildred and Don Leonard of King and Geraldine and Bill Moore of Roanoke; three sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Joyce Greer of King, Roy and Joyce Greer and Roger and Diane Greer, all of Roanoke; seven grandchildren, Billy Moore and wife, Cheryl, Melanie Carter and husband, Lee, Michael, Matthew and Megan Greer, all of Roanoke, Kristi Leonard of King and Marie Primicias and husband, Mike of Milpitas, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Jacob and Elizabeth Moore; and several nieces and nephews; along with two sisters-in-law. Ruby Harless
Ruby E. Nichols Harless, 78, of 717 Dakota Road, Bristol, Va., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Harless was born April 5, 1924, in Iroquois, W.Va., a daughter of the late John A. and Cora Jones Nichols, and has made her home in the Bristol area most of her life. She was a former employee of Kelly and Green and a member of Euclid Avenue Baptist Church.
Mrs. Harless was the widow of Melvin E. "Gene" Harless.
She is survived by a son, Mark E. Harless and his wife Teresa; grandchildren, Lauren Lampkins and her husband, Brian, and Katelan Harless; great-grandchildren, Cainan and Kaleb; brother, Roby Nichols; and several nieces and nephews.

Clyde D. Harmon
CALLAWAY, Fla. - Clyde D. Harmon, 72, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002. Born in Greeneville, Tenn., he was the son of the late Dale and Juanita Harmon. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean conflict and Vietnam Era, earning many medals and accommodations. He retired in 1979 after 28 years of service as a master sergeant. He later retired from Auto Zone after 10 years of service. He was a member of the United Brethren Church in Greeneville.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Mary E. Harmon; daughter, Vickie Peavy; sons, Skip Harmon, Randy Harmon and Kelly Harmon; a sister, Jo Stroud; a brother, Ralph Harmon of Greeneville; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

LEBANON - Mary Ella (Myrt) Huffman, 83, of Route 2, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, in the Russell County Medical Center.
Born April 15, 1919, in Russell County, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary Belle Clark. She attended Grace Baptist Church and was the widow of Harry Huffman.
She was preceded in death by five sons, Paul, Ralph, Harvey, Leonard and Billy Carroll Huffman; also several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Joyce Warner and Lois and Kenneth Morrison, all of Lebanon two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ellis Huffman, Lebanon and Buster and Betty Clark, Bristol Virginia; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Mae Chafin Brooks, Delaware, Ohio; her twin brother, Bascom Clark, Lebanon; also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Ray Garland officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, in Ketron Memorial Gardens. Those attending should meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. to go to the cemetery in procession. BLUFF CITY - Ruby V. Malone, 78, of 4481-2 Bluff City Highway, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at her residence. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Robert L. and Mae Morse Broyles. Mrs. Malone was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Dean Malone; and sister, Thelma Boling. Survivors include three daughters and son-in-law, Brenda and Dan Nanney, Elizabethton, Carolyn Bowden, Bluff City and Kay Carty, Bristol Tennessee; eight grandchildren, David Nanney and Kristi Nanney, both of Elizabethton, Lisa Carty Jenkins, Eddy Carty, Lori Greer, Tina Bowden and Dena Malone, all of Bluff City, and Mendy Carty, Bristol Tennessee; one sister, Elizabeth Bowman, Bristol Tennessee; one brother, Frank Broyles, Canton, Ohio; stepmother, Mary Broyles, Florida; eight great-grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews survive. Also surviving are Eddie Carty and Cathy Malone Smith.
