SHELBY, Miss. - Lorene Bodiford, 72, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Bolivar Medical Center in Cleveland.
Mrs. Bodiford was born in Tuscaloosa, Ala., to Henry and Maggie Scott.
Surviving are two sons, Jerry Wayne George of Bristol, Tenn., and Gregory Allen George of Barberton, Ohio; two daughters, Bernadine Brenda Mullins of Independence, Miss., Delmita Faye Thompkins of Akron, Ohio; a sister, Helen Hurst of Mobile, Ala.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, May 8, 2002.

Darrell Caudill
NORTON - Cecil Darrell Caudill, 56, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Norton. Born to the late Frances and Vestie Mae Caudill, he was a lifelong resident of Norton and Wise County. Mr. Caudill was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam War. Surviving are two sons, Johnny Darrell Caudill and Jeffrey Lynn Caudill, both of Texas; a sister, Mary Bruton of Norton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in Hagy-Fawbush Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. Thursday until the time of the funeral service. Graveside rites will be condcuted at 11 a.m. Friday at White Oak Gap Cemetery on Thacker's Branch near Norton. Arrangements are through Hagy-Fawbush Funeral Home of Norton.

Arthur Crabtree
Arthur "Art" Crabtree, 82, of Avoca Drive, Bristol, Tenn., died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at home. Born in Tompkinsville, Ky., he had resided in the Tri-Cities area for a number of years.
He had worked as an auditor at several motels, hotels and resort areas throughout the Southeast, including the Tri-Cities. Mr. Crabtree was a Protestant.
His wife, Janette Danielson Crabtree; a brother, Grover Crabtree; and his parents, Fred and Oline Kidwell Crabtree, preceded him in death.
Surviving are a special sister-in-law, Lucy Hincke of Kingsport; and several friends who loved him.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery with The Rev. Suzanne Smitherman officiating. Those planning to attend should meet at the cemetery.
Friends will be received at the cemetery immediately following the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Albert M. Gilbert
ATKINS - Albert Mathew Gilbert, 84, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Gilbert was born in Rich Valley to the late Charles and Lizzie Frye Gilbert and was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Edith N. Gilbert. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Brown; and a son-in-law, Hubert Widener. Mr. Gilbert was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Lettie Gilbert of Atkins, Bud and Phyllis Gilbert of North Carolina, James E. and Loretta Gilbert of Marion and Donald and Anita Gilbert of Florida; four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Widener of Atkins, Lorrine and Jay Alexander of Maryland, Jean and Boyd Crouse of North Carolina and Patsy and Richard Johnson of Florida; 29 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made to Hospice of Southwest Virginia, 600 W. Ridge Road, Wytheville, VA 24382. Bradley's Funeral Home, Marion, is serving the Gilbert family.

Grady Nelson Hensley
CASTLEWOOD - Grady Nelson Hensley, 57, formerly of Hurley, passed away Monday, May 6, 2002, in the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of Mrs. Hannah McClanahan Hensley of Route 1, Grundy, and the late George W. Hensley. He had been a resident of Buchanan County most of his life, served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict and was a retired coal miner.
Mr. Hensley is survived by his mother, Mrs. Hannah McClanahan Hensley of Route 1, Grundy; one sister, Shelby Jean and husband, Alfred C. Stacy, of Hurley; one niece, Hannah Marie Justus of Hurley; and one grandniece, Melissa Dawn Justus of Hurley.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 10, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Herbert Ratliff officiating, with burial to follow in Annon Blankenship Cemetery, Hurley.
Services will be held at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
Active pallbearers will be family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Slaughter, Alfred C. Stacy, Patrick Williams, Eric Williams and staff and residents of Dickensonville Rest Home.
Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by members of John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion.
Grundy Funeral Home of Grundy is in charge of all arrangements.

Bertha Ann Jackson
Funeral services for Bertha Ann Jackson will be held Friday, May 10, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Owens & Farmer Funeral Service Chapel with Dr. Robert C. Jackson and Rev. Paul Hite officiating. Interment will follow at Russell Memorial Cemetery, Lebanon. Pallbearers will be Raymond Shepherd, Earnest Lee Jackson, Charles Robert Jackson, Terry Cantrell, Bill Jackson, Chris Kiser and Dennis Lee. Mary M. Leonard
Mary Moorman Leonard, 92, of 2216 Edgemont Ave., Bristol, Tenn., died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born in Bristol, Va., a daughter of the late Julian P. and Minnie Lee Timmons Moorman, and was the widow of J.C. Leonard Jr. She was a graduate of Virginia Intermont College and Duke University and was a member of State Street United Methodist Church. She was retired from the Bristol Tennessee School System and had volunteered as a Pink Lady at Bristol Memorial Hosptial. She was a member of the Blue Stocking Club, the D.A.R. and was an avid Duke University supporter. She was an active member and local sponsor of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.
Mrs. Leoanrd is survived by three sons, John Cleveland Leonard III and his wife, Shirley, of Florida, Fred Moorman Leonard and his wife, Brenda, of Bristol and David Julian Leonard and his wife, Barbara, of Dandridge, Tenn.; a sister, Frances M. Marney of Bristol, Va.; a brother, Julian P. Moorman Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four nieces; two nephews; special friends, Azilee Ross and her family; and Mrs. Leonard's beloved neighbors.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 o'clock Saturday morning at State Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Fred Dearing and Rev. Jane Taylor officiating. The burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Nelson Woody assisting with the committal service. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Friday evening at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. Maude R. McFarlane
The family of Maude Ramey McFarlane will receive friends from 3 until 3:50 Friday afternoon at Central Presbyterian Church. The funeral service will be conducted at 4 o'clock Friday at the church with Dr. David Wadsworth officiating. A private committal service and burial will follow in Mountain Veiw Cemetery. Cebert O. Musick
Cebert O'Lenthus Musick, 81, of 21580 Old Dominion Road, Bristol, Va., died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Musick was a native of Bristol, Va., but had lived most of his life in Springfield, Va., and after his retirement he returned to Bristol where he has lived for the past 12 years. He was a retired employee of the Briggs and Co. and Wilson and Co. Mr. Musick was a veteran of the U.S. Army AirCorps, serving during World War II in the European Theater, and after his service he was honorably discharged. He was a member of Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975 and a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mildred F. (Goodson) Musick; one daughter, Nancy Jean Musick of Greeneville, Tenn.; one son, Craig Edward Musick and his wife, Linda, of Burke, Va.; four grandchildren, Christopher Musick, Amanda Musick, Kimberly Musick and John Henry Musick.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2002, in Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Gary Chenoweth officiating. Burial will follow in Fleenor Memorial Cemetry. Miltiary funeral rites will be conducted by Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975 Honor Guard with chaplain Harold Frances officiating. The Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. Mr. Puckett, 67, passed away Monday, May 6, 2002. He was born Sept. 7, 1934, and was of the Pentecostal faith.

Jonah Reynolds
CLINTWOOD - Jonah Reynolds, 64, of Route 3 passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2002, in Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Elbert and Nancy Alice Coleman Reynolds. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Victor, Stuard, Willie, Leonard and Issac Reynolds; and three sisters, Carrie Reynolds, Maggie Tiller and Delano Hall. Mr. Reynolds was a member of Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church.
He is survived by a sister, Gusta Ellen Cantrell of Courtland, Va.; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 10, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Andy Deel, Freelin Yates, Bobby Yates and Earl Dean Yates officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman Cemetery at Route 2, Haysi. Active pallbearers will be Brandon Meade, Rodney Deel, Landon Darrell Hackney, Kennith Ray Coleman, Kenneth David Reynolds and Darrell Cantrell. Isaac C. Shortridge
RICHLANDS - Mr. Isaac C. "Turk" Shortridge, 87, of 206 Lee St. died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Tazewell County and was a son of the late Henry and Sara Burress Shortridge, both Tazewell County natives.
He was a retired miner with Jewell Smokeless Coal Co. and was a former mayor of Cedar Bluff. He had made his home in the Cedar Bluff and Richlands areas most of his life and was a member of Richlands Presbyterian Church. He was also a 50-year plus member of Cedar Bluff Masonic Lodge 260 A.F. & A.M. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Shortridge; four sisters, Grace Wimmer, Ann Blevins, Pansy Damron and Nan Houchins; and four brothers, John, Bill, Raymond and Holbert Shortridge.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Edith Cruey Shortridge; one son, Mr. Kenneth Shortridge Sr. and wife, Brenda, of Belfast, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. May O'Byrne of Fredericksburg, Va., Mrs. June Nuckles of Richlands and Mrs. Thelma Joyce of Richlands; one brother, Mr. Bobby Shortridge of Flushing, Mich.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 3 p.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. David Danford officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. BLOUNTVILLE - Joseph Maurice Steele, infant son of Wesley and Crystal Steele, died Monday, May 6, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include a sister, Skylar Steele and a twin sister, Jada Steele, both of the home; maternal grandparents, Lisa Hurley of Blountville and David Gregg of Elizabethton; paternal grandparents, Manson and Angela Steele of Piney Flats; maternal great-grandparents, Isaac and Onedia Gregg of Bristol and Frances and Jack Hurley of Virginia; patermal great-grandparents, Bob Lowe and Oma Steele of Mooresburg, Tenn.; two uncles, David Gregg II and Louis Steele; and one aunt, Chrissy Rought.

Elizabeth Brown
SWORDS CREEK, Va. - Mrs. Elizabeth Brown, 86, passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, in a Richlands hospital. Born July 10, 1916, in Swords Creek, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Dora Miller Dye. A lifelong resident of the Swords Creek area, she was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Truel Brown; five brothers; and five sisters.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Ruby Brown of Honaker; one granddaughter, Donna Combs and her husband, Ronnie of Finney, Va.; two great-granddaughters, Misty Compton and her husband, Steven of Gray, Tenn., and Tiffany Musick and her husband, Jacob of Abingdon; one great-great-grandson, Benjamin Isaac Compton of Gray; special caretakers, Joann Brown, Mary Brown, Ronnie and Sharon Dye and Danny and Ellen Dye; special nieces, Shirley Brown, Wilma Keen, Connie Richardson and Wanda Richardson; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Jim Richardson, Rev. Daniel Richardson and Rev. Kenny Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va.
Pallbearers will be Danny Brown, Roger Brown, Ronnie Dye, Danny Dye, Tivis Brown, Bill Brown and Cecil Dye.

Ida B. Clayman
The funeral service for Ida B. Clayman will be conducted at 7 o'clock Tuesday evening in the Paul Cook Memorial Chapel of Oakley-Cook Funeral Home with Dr. Bob Jones and Dr. David Stancil officiating. Richard B. Dorton
POUND, Va. - Richard Brian "Richie" Dorton, 34, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at Indian Path Hospital in Kingsport, Tenn. Richard was known as a loving and caring person and was an avid sportsman and hunter. A 1986 graduate of J.J. Kelly High School, he had been a diesel mechanic for over 14 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ginger Boggs Dorton; a daughter, Kelsey Dorton; a son, Cameron Dorton; his parents, George E. and Bonnie Dorton, Norton; a brother, George E. "Skipper" Dorton, Norton; and two sisters, Sherry Riggs, Hopkinsville, Ky., and Kim Triplett, Wake Forest, N.C. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Alyssa Riggs, Ashley Riggs, Anna Beth Riggs, Will Triplett, Kelli Triplett, Sarah Stanley, Caitlin Stanley, Melody Boggs and Andrew Boggs.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. NORTON - Funeral services for Danny Lee Gardner will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home Chapel with Gary Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Dewey Memorial Cemetery, Pound, Va.
Mr. Gardner, 55, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital.

Katherine B. Graybeal
Katherine "Kathy" Bray Graybeal, 60, of Bristol Tennessee, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at her home.
Mrs. Graybeal was a retired employee of the Bristol Herald Courier and a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burl O. Graybeal Jr.
Survivors include two sons, Spec. John Cartmell and wife Kimberly Taylor Cartmell of Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash., and Eric Cartmell of Bristol Tennessee.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, in the Glenwood Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with Dr. David Stancil officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Ruth M. Hamilton
NORTON - Ruth M. Hamilton 92, passed away early Sunday morning, Nov. 10, 2002, at the Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap, Va. She was born at Glamorgan, Va., and was a lifelong resident of the area. Mrs. Hamilton had worked at area department stores in sales. She was of the Freewill Baptist faith. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
She was a daughter of the late Jonas and Nannie Fulton Kilgore, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Laymon Hamilton; a son, Paul Hamilton; and by a grandson, Glenn Carroll Hamilton.
Survivors include her daughters, Jean Kelley and husband Bill of Norton and Joyce Horne and husband Bill of Wise; her grandchildren, Rhonda Robertson, Norton, Patricia Caldwell and husband Ernie of Wise, Tim Kelley of Norton and William C. Horne Jr. and wife Rebecca of Wise; great-granddaughters, Brandi Roop and husband Jason of Coeburn and Georgia Horne of Wise; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, in Carty Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greg Sergent officiating. Interment will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, in Wise Cemetery, Wise, with Bishop Bill Gobble officiating. Family will depart funeral home at 10:30 a.m. for the cemetery. Frances B. McAmis
KINGSPORT - Frances Bacon McAmis, 88, 1030 Lebanon Road, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, after an extended illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County where she was employed by the Sullivan County Board of Education as a teacher at Miller Perry.
Mrs. McAmis was a member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church where she held many offices. She was also a charter member of the sanctuary choir.
Mrs. McAmis was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. (Bob) McAmis; her parents, Ed. M. and Mariah G. Bacon; and one brother, Charles C. Bacon.
Surviving are one son, Robert F. McAmis Jr. of Kingsport; two grandchildren, Laurie Montgomery of Kingsport and James McAmis of Johnson City; and two great-grandchildren, Mariah Leigh and Matthew Graham Montgomery.
Calling hours will be from 6 until 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at the downtown Kingsport chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at Colonial Heights United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert L. Smith, Rev. Kathy Hale and Rev. Dan Kelly officiating.
Interment will follow in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery at Colonial Heights United Methodist Church.
Pallbearers are Rhea Stares, Dr. Tony Jackson, Dr. Gerald Gilbert, Doug Linebarger, Paul Lucas, Humphery Germagian, William Lawson, Claude Perdue, William McDaniels and Bruce Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Lyons, Danny Fleming, Greg Lacey, Dr. Richard Reed and members of the Colonial Heights United Methodist Church Choir.

Myrtle H. Mullins
DANTE - Funeral services for Myrtle H. Mullins will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charlie Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Wells Cemetery, Esserville, Va.
Mrs. Mullins, 85, formerly of Dunbar, passed away at her home in Dante on Friday, November 8, 2002.

Lewis Allen Proffitt
TAZEWELL COUNTY, Va. - Lewis Allen Proffitt, 59, of the College Estates section, passed away Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at his home following a long illness. Born in Russell County, he was the son of the late Kyle and Pauline Hess Proffitt. He was a disabled construction worker formerly employed by Oman Construction Company. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jake Proffitt and Glenn Proffitt. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Stump Johnson Proffitt of Christiansburg, Va.; a son, James Stefhan Johnson of Cambridge, Mass.; one brother, Kyle (Joe) Proffitt Jr. of Wardell, Va.; a special friend, Carlos Burke of Davenport, Va.; very special care giver Judy McQuire of Cedar Bluff; four nieces; and a nephew.
Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va.,. with Rev. Aldie Allen and Rev. Tommy Dye officiating. Friends may call at the Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff from 6 until 9 p.m. Tuesday.
It was Mr. Proffitt's wish that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1660 Poke St., Alexandria, VA 22314 or to a favorite charity.

Siobhan M. Reynders
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Siobhan M. Reynders, 30, died On Nov. 9, 2002, at the Yale-New Haven Hospital of medical complications following a heart transplant operation. Ms. Reynders, a Washington, D.C., area native, graduated from Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Conn., and The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where she received her bachelor of science degree (summa cum laude) in architecture. A few months prior to her death, she took a leave of absence from her studies at Yale University School of Architecture, where she was working on her masters degree.
Ms. Reynders was born Oct. 1, 1972, in Washington, D.C. The daughter of a Foreign Service family, Ms. Reynolds grew up in Hamburg, Germany, Rome, Italy, Paris, France, Amsterdam, The Netherlands and Bethesda, Md. She is survived by her husband, Mr. Guy Zucker of Woodbridge, Conn.; and her parents, Joyce M,. and Thomas R. Reynders of Darnestown, Md.; paternal grandfather, John F. Reynders of Sea Island, Ga.; and maternal grandmother, Ruby G. Mercer of Bristol Virginia. Her family will hold a memorial service at All Saints Episcopal Church in Chevy Chase, Md., at a later date. Smith Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford, CT is handling the arrangements.
