Geraldine A. Trent
RICHLANDS - Mrs. Geraldine Anderson Trent, 73, died peacefully at home Sunday, May 5, 2002, following a courageous battle with a lengthy illness. Born at Major, Va., in Grayson County, she was the only child of the late W.R. (Bill) Anderson and Vella Pearl Hash Anderson. She had made her home in Richlands for the past 40 years. She had attended Oak Hill Academy and Radford University, where she earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in education. She taught general business classes at Richlands High School for more than 35 years and for many years was sponsor for the FBLA. She was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church at Cedar Bluff, an active volunteer at the Good Samaritan Food Pantry in Richlands and was an avid genealogist.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Joseph Dale Trent.
She is survived by one son, Daniel L. Trent; and two grandsons, John W. Trent and Luke B. Trent, all of Bluefield, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at Independence, Va., with Rev. Carl Howell and Rev. Fred Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Gove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday and at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Carolyn D. Bowen, 54, of Bristol Tennessee died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at home.
She was born in Cincinnati, was a resident of Keokee, Va., for several years, later resided in Kingsport and currently in Bristol Tennessee.
Surviving are her father and mother, Hobert and Anna McElyea of Keokee; two daughters, Renee White of Bluff City and Heather Bowen of Kingsport; two grandsons, Austin and Colton White; two sisters, Janice Kelley of Cincinnati and Annette Akers of Bristol Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at Robbins Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Roy Corbin officiating. Visitation is set for 1 p.m. until time of service on Sunday at the church. Burial will follow at Robbins Chapel Cemetery in Keokee.

GLADE SPRING - Mr. James G. Buchanan, 84, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at home.
He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Glade Spring, where he had been the Sunday school superintendent for many years. He was retired from U.S. Gypsum of Plasterco. Mr. Buchanan was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Elva Buchanan.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Cindy Buchanan and Chris Henn of Raleigh, N.C.; one sister-in-law, Cecile Eddy of Glade Spring; one granddaughter, Patricia Henn; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Ernest Bise of Glade Spring.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at the Church of God of Prophecy in Glade with Rev. Geary Jonas officiating. BLACKFORD, Va. - Mrs. Katrina Gail Justice Cartmell, 41, of the River Mountain Road section passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at her home. Born Nov. 8, 1960, she was a daughter of Bobby and Frances Barrett Justice of the River Mountain Road section of Blackford. She had spent most of her life in the area and was a 1979 graduate of Honaker High School. She graduated from Medical College of Virginia in Richmond in 1984 as a registered pharmacist. She was employed at Clinch Valley Medical Center in the Pharmacy Department. She attended the Chapel of Love on Kent's Ridge Road, Richlands.
In addition to her parents, survivors include her husband, Keith Cartmell of the home; one sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Ron Stevens of Blackford; one brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Brenda Justice of Blackford; one nephew, Kevin Justice; and one niece, Marlena Justice.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. T.R. Stump and Rev. Roger Lester officiating. Interment will follow in Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery at Richlands.

Ada Elam
Ada Belle Elam, 72, of Bristol Tennessee went home to be with the Lord at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness.
Born on Oct. 9, 1929, in Watauga County, N.C., a daughter of the late Marvin and Biddie Houck Main, she had resided in this area since 1946.
Mrs. Elam was a homemaker and a member of the Landmark Freewill Baptist Church.
She will be remembered for all her love and generosity for everyone.
Mrs. Elam was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Watson, in 1953; her second husband, Henry Wayne Elam, in 1992; a daughter, Sue Ellen Watson; two brothers, Walter Main and Robert Lee Main; and one sister, Virginia Main.
She is survived by five daughters, Joan Watson Pardue of Bristol Tennessee, Janet Jones of Bristol Tennessee, Teresa Steele of Bluff City, Amy Hall Turner of Bristol Tennessee and Sarah Rebecca Elam of Bristol Tennessee; five sons,Glen Watson of Bluff City, Kenneth Watson of Bristol Tennessee, Carson Elam of Bristol Virginia, Mike Elam of Bristol Tennessee and Joshua Daniel Elam of Bristol Tennessee; several special sons-in-law and daughters-in-law; four sisters, Ethel Woods of King George, Va., Margie Nell Miller of West Jefferson, N.C., Martha Pearl Miller of West Jefferson and Mary Ruth Pruitt of Charlotte, N.C.; five brothers, Johnny Main of Boone, N.C., Thomas Main of Todd, N.C., Glenn Main of Todd, Dean Main of Boone and Billy Main of Buffalo, N.C.; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Margaret Griffin and Jimmy Trivette.

Frank Gibson
Frank Gibson, 73, of 232 Rooty Branch Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Washington County, Va., he was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area. He was the son of the late James and Ollie Mae Gibson. He was a retired employee of Bristol Metals and he was of the Baptist fiath. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Lee Callahan Gibson.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Joyce Piercy and husband, Paul, of Bristol Tennessee; sister, Margaret Murray of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, Jim Gibson of Damascus and Elihue Gibson of Damascus; granddaughter, Summer Brooke Vivas; and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret Virginia Harper, 84, of 100 Moore St., Leisure Park Towers, Bristol, Va., died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rosa Mae Tester. Mrs. Harper was also preceded in death by her husband, John C. Harper Sr., and son, John C. Harper Jr. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include daughters Betty Morrison of Bristol Virginia and Barbara Dunn of Bristol Virginia; son, James A. Harper of Bristol Virginia; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

WHITEWOOD, Va. - Mrs. Audrey Frances Horn Kelly, 69, passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, in a Grundy hospital following a short illness.
Born at Pilgrim Knob, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Nora Vandyke Horn. She was of the Holiness faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Willie, Elmer, Coy and Hufford Horn; and four sisters, Adna Smith, Margie Cantrell, Kansas Meadows and Queenie Lamb.
She is survived by her husband, Charlie Kelly; one son, Ron Kelly and wife, Sharon, of Whitewood; two daughters, Debbie Kelly of Whitewood and Mrs. Richard (Anita) Harrison of Prospect, Va.; one brother, Roy Horn of East Canton, Ohio; one sister, Joy Short of Powhatan, Va.; three grandchildren, Amanda and Amy Kelly and Rhyan Harrison.

James W. "Red" Morris, 85, died unexpectedly at home on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002. Born in Washington County, Tenn., he was the son of the late Charles and Nora Morris. He had lived in Bristol since 1950.
Survivors include one daughter, Elaine Good of Bluff City; five sons, Jimmy, Charles, Bobby, Steve and Phillip Morris, all of Bluff City; sister Eva Mae Hudson of Piney Flats; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

James D. Owens
STERLING, Va. - James Darrell Owens, 59, formerly of Buchanan County, passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at Landsdown Hospital, Leesburg, Va., following a brief illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Arville and Melster Willis Owens. He was a resident of Buchanan County several years prior to moving to Sterling. He was a graduate of Grundy High School Class of 1962, a former member of Russell Prater Fire Department and Rescue Squad, a member of Sandy Valley Lodge No. 17 of Grundy and the Kazim Temple of Roanoke. He was an estimator for insurance companies and garages.
Mr. Owens is survived by his wife, Wilma Marie Owens of Sterling; three sons, Jimmy Duane Owens of Sterling, Marcus "Marty" Lynn Owens of Stephen City, Va., and Brian Keith Owens of Berryville, Va.; one sister, Janette Mullins of Haysi; one brother, Leon Owens of Sterling; also two granddaughters, Emily and Elise Owens.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Sonny Owens.

Ms. Pearl Frazier Payne, 94, passed away Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at Richfield Nursing Center in Salem.
She was a lifelong resident of Big Stone Gap but had resided in Salem for the past six years. She retired from Pet Dairy after 30 years. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy D. Payne; her mother and father, Henry and Julia Frazier; and three brothers, Elmo, Claude and Amos Frazier of Kingsport.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and McCoy Garrison of Salem; her three grandchildren, Daniel M. Garrison, C. Steven Garrison and Kathy Spark of Salem; her two great-grandchildren, Aaron C. Kelderhouse of Roanoke and Sarah M. Kelderhouse of Salem; one brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Dot Frazier; one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Clarence Clawson; sister Minnie Cox of Kingsport; sister-in-law Maxie Masters of Big Stone Gap; and several nieces and nephews.

BLOUNTVILLE - Mary Christine Feathers Pope, 65, of 761 Boozy Creek Road went to be with her Lord Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, in Holston Valley Medical Center after a long illness.
Mary was born Sept. 26, 1937, in Bristol Viorginia, a daughter of the late Robert and Nellie (Kidd) Feathers. She was a member of West Hills Christian Church, a homemaker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her only son, Bobby Pope; four brothers, Carl, Charles, Clarence and James Feathers; and two sisters, Ida and Nellie Marie Feathers.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Fred Gray Pope of the home; two daughters and son-in-law, Sherry Thomas and Terry and Cecil Sexton, all of Blountville; grandchildren, Christina Sexton, Audrey Thomas and John and Angela Quillen; great-grandchildren, Timothy and Britney Sexton, Lesha Pruitt and Nikita Jones; three sisters and brother-in-law, Margaretta and Davis Collins and Annabell Collins, all of Bristol Virginia, and Helen Pendergrass of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Allen and Linda Feathers and Wayne and Carol Feathers, all of Bristol Tennessee.

ROSEDALE, Va. - Mr. Otis Banner Price, 86, passed away Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, in Mountain Home, Tenn. Born May 19, 1916, in Russell County, Va., he was a son of the late Samuel C. and Myrtle L. Honaker Price. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Taze Price and Luther Price; and two sisters, Doisie Peevy and Elzie Wolford.
Survivors include six brothers, Paul D. Price of Honaker, Grady E. Price of Paintlick, Va., Henry A. Price of Honaker, George T. Price of Honaker, John L. Price of Rock Hill, S.C., and Coy O. Price of Cedar Bluff; three sisters, Betty Honaker of Big A Mountain, Mary Ellen Sauls of Honaker and Molly Johnson of Cream Ridge, N.J.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews also survive.

Betty V. Robinson
BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Mrs. Betty Wayne Vannoy Robinson, 69, departed this life Sept. 23, 2002, in Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norris Robinson; mother, Alberta Greenlee; father, Alexander Vannoy; and mother-in-law, Bertha Black.
Survivors include daughter, Mrs. Linda Cummings of Brunswick; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and other family members.
Mrs. Robinson dedicated her life to her family and will be missed greatly by all of those whose life she touched.

He was the son of the late Gran and Mary Dolinger Shuler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Louise Smith; four sisters; and four brothers.

Fred J. Tabb, 53, of Bristol Virginia died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton. He was born in Bristol Virginia, a son of the late Paul Montgomery and Sarah Tabb Montgomery, and was a former member of Lee Street Baptist Church. Mr. Tabb lived in Cleveland, Ohio, for many years before returning to Bristol during the 1990's. He was a former employee of the Bristol Housing Authority. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Lee Street Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. W.A. Johnson, Pastor Jacqueline Nophlin and Pastor Jacqueline Oxendine officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 Sunday afternoon at the church prior to the service. Honorary pallbearers will be Barry Washington, Donnie Blackman, Thomas Lee Tinkle, David Duff, Charles Delapp, Jimmie Washington, Tim Hess, Joseph Anderson, Ralph Coffey, Larry Watkins and Clyde Washington.
