MEADOWVIEW - The committal service for Patsy Ann Taylor will be conducted Sunday, March 31, 2002, at 2 p.m. in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, with Mr. Randy Williams officiating. Those attending the service Sunday are asked to assemble at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m.

Paul Beam Jr.
KINGSPORT - Paul Beam Jr. died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn. He was born in Newark, N.J., and lived most of his life in Taylors Valley, Va. He was a son of the late Paul Beam Sr. and Ruth Yates Beam.
He is survived by two sisters, Darlene Tucker of Abingdon and Debra Peltier of Lake Hopatcong, N.J.; one brother, David Beam of Saylors Burg, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2002, in Jackson-Lewis Cemetry, Taylors Valley, with Rev. Mike Bowers officiating. James E. Fullen
POUNDING MILL - Mr. James Edward Fullen, 84, passed away Saturday May 18, 2002, in a Tazewell hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Tazewell County and was the son of the late Aker Hancock and Mary Belle Caudill Fullen, both Tazewell County natives.
He had made his home in Tazewell County most of his life and was a retired vocational teacher and brick mason for the Tazewell County School System. He was a graduate of Burkes Garden High School and received his college education from several different colleges. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Lowe Fullen; two sisters, Oakley Myke and Iva Granger; and three brothers, Walter, Clyde and Lilburn S. Fullen.
Survivors are one daughter, Doris Ann May and husband, Steven, of Paintlick, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Frances Chasen of Richmond; two grandchildren, Steven Daniel May Jr. and Cindy Manjeshwar; and five great-grandchildren, T.J., Eden, Cherub, Isabell and Jacob also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 20 2002, at 2 p.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Bill Shook officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill. Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640 and Tazewell County Chapter 31 DAV will serve as pallbearers and conduct military graveside rites.

Mr. Hubert Howard (H.H.) Moser of Bristol, Va., went to be with the Lord Friday, May 17, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Moser was owner of Virginia Wholesale Co. and J&M Wholesale Distributors since 1960. Some of Mr. Moser's accomplishments and awards are as follows: 1945 completion of Sperry Gyro-Scope Co., Inc., while in the U.S. Air Force; 1954 president of Worthmore Gold Stamp Co.; 1955 Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. Awards Citation for Outstanding Cooperation rendered the Youth Activities Program sponsored by Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975; president Sav Mor Food Group; 1957 president Dale Carnegie Courses; 1962 president of the Young Executives Division of the U.S. Wholesdale Grocery Association; president Jones Wholesale Co., Inc.; 1963 president of J&M Realty Co.; 1967 president of Tennessee State Wholesale Grocers Association; president of Five States Wholesale Grocers Association; and 1971 served as chairman of YMCA Membership Committee. He was elected to a three-year term on Washington County Board of Supervisors; 1989 Republican Presidential Task Force Life Member Registry validated by President Ronald Regan; 1991 Congressional Certificate for committment to Armed Forces in Persian Gulf; 1993 appointed to the Advisory Board of Directors of American Tobacco Company, Inc.; and 1993 honored member of Who's Who Worldwide of Global Busienss Leaders.
Mr. Moser was a native of Lynch Mine, Ky., and had lived most of his adult life in the Bristol area. He attended Shiloh Freewill Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was the son of the late John B. Moser and Ella J. Moser. He was also preceded in death by one son, Phillip H. Moser; two sisters, Margaret M. Johnson and Patricia C. Peltier; and three brothers, Ernest Chapman, Claude C. Chapman and James Moser.
Mr. Moser is survived by his wife, Edith P. Moser of the home; three daughters, Patricia M. Monday and husband, Bill, of Cookville, Tenn., Susan M. Vega and husband, Jack, of Miami Lakes, Fla., and Tammi M. Wooward and husband, John, of Gibsonville, N.C.; two sons, Gary R. Moser of Cookville, Tenn., and James (Jim) Moser and wife, Pam S., of Abingdon; also surviving are his former wife, Dorothy E. Moser of Cookville; six granddaughters; 11 grandons; seven great-granddaughers; five great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, sister-in-law, Zelda Bartee and husband, Dodie, Luther and Betty Stinnett and Bill Odum.
The funeral service will be conducted Sunday evening at 8 p.m. at Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Walter Statzer officiating. Military graveside services will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Glenwood Cemetery by VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975 Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be the drivers of Virginia Wholesale and J&M Wholesale Distributors. Honorary pallbearers will be the rest of the employees of the Moser companies. Graham L. Odum
Graham Leemon Odum, 77, of Bristol, Va., passed away Saturday, May 18, 2002, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Odum was born in Washington County. He was the son of the late Charles Wesley Odum and Lily (Crigger) Odum. He was retired from Bristol Virginia Sheriff's Department with 13 years of service. He was a member of the National Sheriff Association and the Virginia Sheriff Institute. He was a U.S. Army veteran, where he served in Europe during World War II in the 39th Infantry Division. He was a member of Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975 and a member of the American Legion Washington County Post 12. Mr. Odum was a long-standing member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Rose (Cook) Odum; two daughters, Evelyn Odum of Ashland, Mo., and Teresa Odum Clark of Great Falls, Va.; one son-in-law, David Clark of Great Falls; also surviving are five grandchildren, John Herman of Casper, Wyo., Allison Murrow and George Downer, both of Denver, Colo.; and Meredith Clark and Madeleine Clark, both of Great Falls; and one sister, Susie McDaniel of Bristol, Va.

LEBANON - Bobby Gene Owens, 71, died Saturday, May 18, 2002, in Russell County Medical Center.
Born July 5, 1930, the son of the late Eugene Owens and Effie Brooks Owens, he was a retired contractor. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Helen Smith Owens; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Owens and wife, Sally, of Rosedale and David Owens and wife, Arbetta, of Lebanon; five grandchildren, Cortney Owens, Aaron Owens, Davis William Owens, Adams Owens and Ashley Owens; one aunt, Kathleen Dye of Lebanon; and several cousins.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2002, in Combs Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. H.G. Musick Jr. and Rev. Tom Edwards officiating.

AUSTIN, Colo. - Mary Kathryn Parker, 77, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Delta County Memorial Hospital in Delta, Colo.
She was born March 30, 1925, in Anthon, Iowa, to the late Charles and Mary Bennett Fuller. She married Thomas McKenzie Parker on Oct. 15, 1945, in Oakland, Calif., and they raised six children together.
In life Mary was a loving mother and homemaker. She was a member of Mount Gilead Bethel Church in Eckert, Colo.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; a sister, Clarise Lyons; and a brother, Fredrick Fuller.
Survivors include six sons, Charles Thomas Parker and wife, Joann, of Keokee, Va., William Richard Parker and wife, Olagay, of Lebanon, Walter Frank Parker and wife, Barbara, of Lebanon, Kenneth Robert Parker and wife, Nancy, of San Lorenzo, Calif., Timothy Carl Parker and wife, Gloria, of Gray, Tenn., and Frederick Michael Parker of Grand Junction, Colo.; five brothers, Harold Fuller and wife, Thora, of Austin, Colo., Paul Fuller and wife, Catherine, of Austin, Glenn Fuller and wife, Violet, of Eckert, Arthur Fuller and wife, Sharon, of Austin and Ardo Fuller and wife, Doris, of Castro Valley, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Hugh W. Powers II
Hugh Winfield Powers II of Bristol, Tenn., passed away Thursday, May 16, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was associated with Mitchell Powers Hardware for more than 42 years, then he founded Powers Industrial Hardware in 1983. Mr. Powers was a native and lifelong resident of Bristol, Tenn. Mr. Powers was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving in World War II, and a member of First Baptist Church.
He was the son of the late Edwin Reeder Powers and Gordon Rush Powers. He was preceded in death by one son, Edwin James Powers; one brother, Edwin Reeder Powers Jr.; and one sister, Ruth Addington Powers Davis.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Joelma Tosh Powers; one daughter, Faith Sidney Powers of Bristol, Tenn.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Hugh Winfield Powers III and wife, Christine, Joel Scott Powers and wife, Catherine, and Mitchell Andrew Powers and wife, Cheryl, all of Bristol, Tenn., and David Phillip Powers and wife, Teresa, of Powell, Tenn.; one sister, Dorothy Duff Wright of Bristol, Va.; two brothers, David Alexander Powers of New York City and Benjamin Rush Powers of Bristol, Tenn. Also surviving are one sister-in-law, Louise Hayroth Powers of Richmond; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2002, at Glenwood Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with Dr. David Stancil officiating. BLUFF CITY - Ada May Sams, 87, died Friday, May 17, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center. She was born in Knoxville and moved to the Bristol area in 1948. She was a daughter of the late Henry Stephen and Mary Kathryn Edwards Ault. Mrs. Sams attended Tri-Cities Church of God and was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother of five generations.
She is survived by her daughter, Vivian Robinson of Piney Flats; her son, Dennis A. Sams of Bristol, Va.; one sister, Kathryn Vance of Maryville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Dennis A. Sams Jr., Ricky A. Sams, Jerry Robinson and Denise Robinson; four great-grandchildren, Lorie Sams, Carrington Sams, Emily Holliday and Brandon Sams; one great-great-granddaughter, Shannon Elizabeth Holliday; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Roy Sams.

GRUNDY - Clayton Stacy, 73, of the Slate Creek area, passed away Friday, May 17, 2002, at home following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Harvy and Nancy Davis Stacy. He had been a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a retired lumberman.
Mr. Stacy is survived by two foster sons, Roy Stacy of Route 3, Grundy, and Ralph Stacy of Grundy; two brothers, Kermit Stacy of Route 3, Grundy, and Andrew Stacy of Route 3, Grundy; and one special great-niece, Stephanie Mattox.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Bertha Stacy Charles; one brother, Lonnie Stacy; one foster brother, Jerry Twombly; and two special friends, Darvel Mounts and Michael Mullins.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 20, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with evangelists Mike Rife and Andy Maynard officiating with burial to follow in Smith Branch Cemetery, Mouth of Smith Branch on Slate Creek, Grundy.

ST. PAUL - Benjamin A. Tudor II, 75, died Friday, May 17, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, after an extended illness.
He was a native of Taylorville, Ill., the son of the late Benjamin A. Tudor I and Elizabeth Cramer Tudor. He was a graduate of Taylorville High School and the University of Illinois as a professional mining engineer. Mr. Tudor was an active member of the Illinois Alumni and a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II and also a member of the Masons and a Shriner. He was a member and past president of the St. Paul Lions Club, St. Paul. He retired from Pittston Coal Co., Dante. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Taylorville.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine Tudor; one daughter, Rebecca Tudor of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; three sons, Benjamin A. Tudor III and Donald Tudor, both of Wheelersburg, Ohio, and Todd Tudor of Mt. Orab, Ohio; three stepdaughters, Dolly Griffith of Tucson, Ariz., Lillian Johnson of Sierria Vista, Ariz., and Billy Ruth Kirk of Gaithersburg, Md.; two stepsons, Raymond Griffith of Hayters Gap, Va., and Tom Griffith of Rockville, Md.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

ABINGDON - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Woods, 71, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born April 10, 1931, in Russell County. She moved to Washington County with her husband in 1950. She was preceded in death by her husband, Shad Henry Woods and her son, Daniel Clayton Woods.
She is survived by two sons, Henry Woods Jr. and John Elbert Woods, both of Abingdon; three daughters, Bernice and husband, George Hopkins, of Conetoe, N.C., Glenda Woods of Abingdon and Julie Fuqua of Bristol, Va.; two sisters, Lillian Wheeler and Jackie Young, both of Abingdon; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Don Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in National Cemetery at Mountain Home, Tenn.

Donald Adkins Sr.
GRUNDY - Donald Adkins Sr., 60, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2002, in Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn. Born in Buchanan County on July 3, 1941, he was the son of the late James Ira Adkins and Lillian Florence Rowe Adkins. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Grundy Church of Christ, a disabled coal miner from Jewell Ridge Coal Co. and a member of UMWA Local Union 1594.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Ronald Adkins.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mavis Jean Ward Adkins of Grundy; two daughters, Tammie A. Buchanan of Saltville and Donna Matney of Grundy; two sons, Donald (Donnie) Adkins Jr. and Gary Adkins, both of Grundy; two brothers, William (Bill) Frank Adkins of Hurley and Rufus (Pete) Gene Adkins of Grundy; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Grundy Church of Christ in Grundy with Evangelist Jim Hill, Evangelist Mike Rife and Evangelist Tom Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock.
Active pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the elders and deacons of Grundy Church of Christ.

RICHLANDS - Mr. Danny Lee Altizer, 44, of 690 Virginia Ave., passed away Tuesday afternoon in a Richlands hospital.
