Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie (Penny) Brown will be conducted Sunday, May 26, 2002, at 2:30 p.m. from New Hope Baptist Church. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery with Rev. William J. Reid, Rev. Dr. Willis A. Johnson, Pastor Ann Johnson and Rev. William Austin officiating.
Mrs. Brown was a native of Bristol, a very loyal member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she was the director of the women's choir, and an usher. She was a graduate of Virginia Intermont College and a teacher in the Headstart program for more than 22 years.
Her survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Kimberly Prabhakar of Concord, NC.; one son, Lowell Brown Jr. of Bristol, Tenn.; one granddaughter, Adauzea Swann Prabhakar; two brothers, Alford Smith of Detroit and John Smith of Detroit; three sisters, Mrs. Pamela Smith Pope of Bristol, Va., Mrs. Ada (Pat) Smith Black of Detroit and Mrs. Barbara Smith Beidleman of Bristol, Va.; one uncle, Eakwood Logan of Meadowview; four aunts, Mrs. Bernice (Tootie) Washington of Bristol, Va., Mrs. Ann Montgomery of Detroit, Mrs. Lonnie Logan of Meadowview and Mrs. Edith Smith of Philadelphia; several nieces and nephews; son-in-law, Shekhar Prabhakar; and daughter-in-law, Sonia Brown.
The family will receive friends at her home, 708 Portsmouth Ave., Bristol, Va., Saturday, May 24. and the family will receive friends at New Hope Baptist Church from 6 to 8 p.m.

TROUTDALE, Va. - Wesley F. Brown, 77, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at home. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and was retired from Brunswick Corp. He is survived by his wife, Pansy Johnson Brown of Troutdale; one daughter and son-in-law, Geneva and Herman Kirk of Troutdale; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Cecil and Lynne Brown of Meadowview and Roger L. Brown of Troutdale; one sister, Belva Billings of Troutdale; three grandchildren, Amy Kirk, Jessica Brown and Rebecca Brown; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 23, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Ernest Powers, Rev. Ralph Surber and Rev. Dennis Eller officiating. LEBANON - Bobby Lee Clark, 66, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, in Maple Grove Health Care Center.
Survivors include one daughter, Rhonda Sue Clark of Battle Creek, Mich.; one son, Billy Joe Clark of Florida; one stepdaughter, Annette Stanley of Lebanon; one stepson, Junior Jones of Honaker; one brother, Jack Clark of Kingsport; and one half-brother, Dewey Clark of Michigan.

SALTVILLE - Mrs. Gertrude Welch Crawford, 89, died Monday, May 20, 2002, at Francis Marion Manor, Marion. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond J. Crawford; and son, Jack W. Crawford.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Doris Crawford of Saltville and Jerry and Peggy Crawford of Mt. Airy, N.C.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special niece, Peggy Rolen of Saltville.

SALTVILLE - Mr. Jerry Franklin Davidson Sr., 60, died Monday, May 20, 2002, in James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Mountain Home. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his father, William St. John Davidson; and one son, John William Davidson.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila Davidson; two sons, Jerry F. Davidson Jr. of Saltville and Michael S. VIRGINIA BEACH - Miss Nora Hale, 84, died Sunday, May 19, 2002. She was a native of Castlewood and was formerly of Bristol, Va. Miss Hale retired from the Central Intelligence Agency and was a former member of Midway Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Holbrook; and a brother, Roy Hale.
Survivors include her sisters, Ethel Evans of Arlington, Va., and Pearl Throop ofWoodbridge, Va.; nephews Ken Evans and his wife, Mary, of Arlington, John Holbrook of Houston, amd Mark Holbrook and his wife, Kathy, of Virginia Beach; nieces Juila Hall and her husband, Harold, of Woodbridge, and Gladys Hippert and her husband, Richard, of Silver Spring, Md.; great-nieces and nephews, Kaitlin and Christopher Holbrook and Dan, Tom and Mike Evans.

Leonard Hicks
ABINGDON - Rev. Leonard Hicks, 72, died Monday, May 20, 2002, at Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol. He was a native of McClure, Dickenson County. He had lived in Bristol from 1975-l995 before moving to Abingdon. He was a Baptist minister since 1961, and a member of UMWA District 28. He was a member of Revival Center Baptist Church in the Benhams community of Bristol.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Pearl Hicks; his first wife, Tina Hicks; one brother, Wilford Hicks; and one grandchild.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva (Jenny) Hicks; three sons, David Hicks and wife, Brenda, of Chattanooga, Tenn., Danny Hicks and wife, Terri, of St. Paul and Jerry Hicks and wife, Vivian, of Bristol, Va.; three daughters, Lois Peyton and husband, Butch, of Roanoke, Joy Smith and husband, Gordon, of Bristol, Tenn., and Kay Johnson and husband, Bobby, of Greensboro, N.C.; two stepsons, Eugene C. Nancy Jean Hutchens, 54, of Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and was preceded in death by her only brother, Charles Head.
Nancy was a private duty caregiver and a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia "Cindy" and Joe Woods and Wanda R. and Cameron Wyatt of Bristol, Tenn.; one son, Jeremy Wayne Bailey of Roanoke; her mother, Virginia Owens of Bristol, Tenn.; five sisters, Pat Cross, Belinda Hatcher, Bobbie Littrell and Shirley F. Lane, all of Bristol, Tenn., and Marie P. Margaret K. Leonard
Margaret Kegley Leonard, 79, went to be with the Lord Sunday, May 19, 2002, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Leonard was a homemaker and a former employee of Big Jack Manufacturing Co. She was a member of Lime Hill Baptist Church.
Mrs. Leonard was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Marie Weaver.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Lewis Leonard; her children, Nancy Hemmings, Charlotte Smith and husband, Glen, and Betty Weaver; her grandson, Donnie McClellan, raised as a son and his wife, Lori; her grandchildren, Mike Weaver, Daryl Smith, Jeff McClellan, Joel Smith, Jessica Osborne, Linda Baird, Diana Love, Tammie Baird and Debbie Duncan. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a very special friend, Karen Brown; her sisters Marie Adams, Rosa Smith and Polly Alexandra; and her brother Clarence Kegley.

MARION - Margaret Patrick Pugh, 80, died Monday, May 20, 2002, in Francis Marion Manor.
Mrs. Pugh was born in Oak Hill, W.Va., to the late Fredrick and Anna Patrick, and was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley C. Pugh. She was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen Pugh.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Robert F. Taylor of Bethesda, Md.; two grandsons, Robert S. and wife, Megan Taylor, of Adamstown, Md., and Lt. David F. Taylor of Anacortes, Wash.; one great-grandson, Robert K. Taylor of Adamstown; one sister, Mabel Landers of Cross Lanes, W.Va.; one brother, Frank Everett Patrick of Austin, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Bradshaw of Marion and June Harrington of Marion; one brother-in-law, Joseph Pugh of Hudson, Fla.; a special friend, Charlotte Bennett of Marion; and many nieces and nephews also survive.

MOUNTAIN CITY - Mrs. Nannie Kilby Roark, 82, of 201 Hospital Hill Road, passed away Monday, May 20, 2002, at Mountain City Care Center. She was a native of Campbellsville, Ky., and the daughter of the late James and Dosha Shoemake Kilby, a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a housewife. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond R. Roark; and two sons, Eugene and Daley Roark.
Survivors include two sons, T.D. Roark of Damascus and Doyle Roark of Mountain City; two brothers, Jason Kilby of Oxford, Pa., and Coy Ray Kilby of Lenoir, N.C.; five sisters, Belvia Phipps and Marie Widener, both of Laurel Bloomery, Tenn., Mable Payne of Mountain City, Dorothy Kulin of Shady Valley, Tenn., and Edna Bowlin of Hendersonville, N.C.; stepmother, Rose Kilby of Shady Valley; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Jackie L. Shrader
MAXIE, Va. - Jackie Luther Shrader, 57, passed away Monday, May 20, 2002, in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon. Born in Buchanan County, Sept. 13, 1944, the son of the late Robert Gillespie Shrader and Hallie Mae Crigger Shrader. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, a member of Harman Holiness Church, a disabled coal miner and a member of UMWA Local Union 7025 of Harman. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and an avid outdoorsman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lavada Blankenship and Naomi Shrader; two half-sisters, Hazel Layne and Sadie Hamilton; three brothers, Robert Shrader, Doak Shrader and Hobert Shrader; and one half-brother, Golden Shrader.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Ann Potter Shrader of Maxie; three daughters, Jacqueline Renee Shrader, Andrea Nicole Shrader and Marcella Stiltner, all of Maxie; six sisters, Marie McNutt of Conaway, Va., Beatrice Hibbitts of Grundy, Geneva Owens and Nell McNutt, both of Maxie, Rosella Hess of Claypool Hill and Naomi Fleming of Big Rock, Va.; and one brother, Bobby Shrader of Maxie. He is also survived by five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 24, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy, with Reverend Danny Hess and Reverend Rudolph Sesco officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock.

Carl W. Wheatley Jr.
NORTON - Carl William Wheatley Jr., 57, of Guest River Road, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2002. He was born Feb. 21, 1945, in Norton and was a lifelong resident of the area. He had worked in the coal industry as a foreman, resident engineer and truck driver. Carl had worked for Blue Diamond Coal Co. for 26 years. He was an avid wood worker and musician. He was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
Mr. Wheatley was preceded in death by his parents, Carl W. Wheatley Sr. and Lillie Shelton Graves Wheatley; and by his stepfather, Alex Nagy.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Johnson Wheatley of Norton; daughter, Rebecca L. Wheatley; special daughter, Rebecca Ann Shook of Norton; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Linda and Paul Damron, Dorothy and Wayne Mullins and Deborah Mullins, all of Wise; special family members, Patsy and Ronnie and Jessica Hall; one niece and her husband, Tammy and Kevin Hall; two nephews and their wives, Skip and Becky Hall and Shane and Laura Hall; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Charles A. White Sr.
Mr. Charles A. White Sr., 82, of Bristol, Va., died Monday, May 20, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tenn. Born in Bristol, Va., he was a son of the late Vollie Lewis White and Ella Clay Wright White. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jessie A. White and a sister, Virginia White Smith.
Mr. White was a longtime member of Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and trustee. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was the former owner and operator of Charles White Construction Co.
He is survived by his wife, Hallie S. White; a son, Charles A. White Jr. and wife, Sue, of Bristol, Va.; a daughter, Vickie Shelton and husband, Jim, of Bristol, Va.; four sisters, June White Shumaker and Gayle L. White, both of Bristol, Tenn., Louise White Clark of Kingsport and Nancy White Privett of Texarkana, Texas; two brothers, Vollie Lewis White Jr. of Bristol, Va., and Frank L. White of Bristol, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Chris White, Chuck White, Shannon Lane and Kaitlin Shelton; two great-grandchildren, Cree Daniel White and Collin Elizabeth White; and several nieces and nephews.

Charlie D. Bowers Jr.
BLUFF CITY - Charlie D. Bowers Jr., 72, of 125 Milhorn Drive, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center following a lengthy illness. A native of Sullivan County, he was the son of the late Charlie D. Bowers Sr. and Liza Pierce Bowers. Mr. Bowers was of the Baptist faith and a dairy farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, William Manis; one sister, Ellen Parks; and one brother, Stanley Bowers. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Bowers of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Kermit Manis of Bluff City; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Joyce Bowers of Kingsport; two brothers, Jay Bowers of Elizabethton and Joe Bowers of Bluff City; four sisters, Bonnie Oliver of Blountville, Carmie Oliver of Piney Flats, Gladys Lynch of Bristol Virginia, and Julie Willen of Bluff City; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, from the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home-Bluff City Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Mitchell and Rev. Mack Harr officiating. Music will be by New Life Baptist Choir. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Sunrise Cemetery. Those who wish to attend the graveside are requested to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, from the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home-Bluff City or other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bowers family.

Robert Howard Brooks
Robert Howard Brooks, 84, of Bristol, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 25, 1918, in Mooresburg, Tenn., a son of the late Robert Lee and Bessie Kate Brooks and had made his home in the Bristol area most of his life.
Affectionately known as "Mr. Brooks" by the faculty, staff and students at Tennessee High where he had worked for 12 years after his retirement from Hechts and Purity Bakery, with 43 years of service. He was a 64-year member of South Bristol United Methodist Church and had taught the Adult Sunday School Class for over 30 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II with the highly decorated 6th Armored Division and was a liberator of Buchenwald Concentration Camp, Patton 3rd Army, past president of 6th Army Association and was the recipient of the EAME Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars. He was a charter member of the VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975 and the American Legion, member and Past Master of King Masonic Lodge 461, York Rite and Scottish Rite Mason, a charter member of Jericho Shrine Temple, The Royal Order of Scotland and KYCH and Border City Chapter of the Eastern Star. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Clark and Dorothy Greer; four brothers, Clay, Virgil, Edgar and Billy; son-in-law, Frank Boice and twin great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Christine Taylor.
Survivors include wife of 64 years, Cora Lee Keesee Brooks; four daughters, Barbara Boice, Carolyn Miller and Susie Thompson and husband, Jeff of Bristol and Martha Taylor and husband Jim of Grand Prairie, Texas; brother, Dick Brooks, Elkins, W.Va.; and special friend and care giver, Patricia Mix.
"Poppa" was dearly loved and will be missed by his grandchildren, Angie and Bruce Higley, Leeann and Kurt Carlson, Julie and Jim Rodeback, Betsy and Tracy Graves, Beth and Bryce Cannon, Becky Haga and Rob Taylor as well as his great-grandchildren, Jordan Dunn, Ashley and Kalee Carlson, Jake and Justin Rodeback, Kamryn and Cole Cannon and Meghan, Christopher and Heather Taylor; four step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harold Russell and Rev. William Martin officiating. The committal with military honors conducted by the VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975 will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tracy Graves, Jim Rodeback, Kurt Carlson, Bruce Higley, Joe Swiney, Wayne Burnette, Bob Carrier and Jimmy Smith. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at Weaver Funeral Home.

Marie G. Dalton
KNOXVILLE - Marie Galloway Dalton, 54, of 1212 Highvue Drive, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at Fort Sanders Medical Center in Knoxville. She was born the daughter of the late Loran D. and Blanche Ely Galloway in Bristol Tennessee, and lived in Macon, Ga., and Wichita, Kan., before moving to Knoxville. She was a former employee of Bristol Compressors and was a volunteer at Ronald McDonald House in Wichita. She was affectionately known as Miss Marie at Scenic Park Baptist Church where she taught in Children's Church and Sunday School for several years.
Survivors include husband, Isaac "Ike" Dalton; daughters, Dr. Marianne Dalton Bailey and husband, Dr. Doug, and Sherrie Lynn Dalton Blair and husband, Stephen; grandsons, Nathan and Jacob; brother, Richard L. Galloway and wife, Jean; sisters, Janice Depew and husband Curt, Glenda Jordan, Lorna Calvert and husband, Vince, Bibi Hall and husband, Allison, and Amaris Morrell and husband, Herbert; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Cowell officiating. Committal services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Eastern Heights Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers include members of First Baptist Concord in Knoxville and the Cope-Wantland Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-7:45 p.m. prior to the service.
