DANTE - Myrtle Hamilton Mullins, 85, formerly of Dunbar, passed away at her home in Dante on Friday, November 8, 2002. She was born on December 7, 1916 at Esserville, Virginia to Elliot and Goldie Mae Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Patrick Hamliton of Dunbar; her second husband, Fran J. Mullins of Pound; two infant sons: Douglas and Jerry; an infant daughter, Virginia; two grandsons: Scott Lycans and Joe Jessee; four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include: one half brother, Andrew Sargent, Dante; three daughters: Goldie Buckles and her husband Fred, Castlewood; Patsy Lycans, Wooster, Ohio; Brenda Jessee and her husband Barney, Stanley, N.C.; two sons: Tommy Hamilton and his wife Dixie, Castlewood; Donald Ray Hamilton and his wife Janice, Greenwood, Ind.; several nieces and nephews; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m., Monday at the Hagy and Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Charlie Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Wells Cemetery, Esserville, Va.
Kenneth E. Rasnake
LEBANON - The funeral service for Kenneth E. (Lefty) Rasnake will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Chris Musick officiating. Burial will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Lowell Lowe, L.D. Blankenship, Darrell Horne, Calvin Rasnake, Lonnie Hopson, Ray Martin and Denver Musick.
Mr. Rasnake, 64, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, in the Maple Grove Health Care Center.

HAMPTON - Chief Master Sgt. (Ret.) Charles William Sams, 65, 6251 Highway 19 E. Hampton died Friday, November 8, 2002 in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late George and Louise Fee Sams. He was retired from the United States Air Force after serving 30 years. He served in the Vietnam Era. He was preceded in death by a brother, George Sams and two sisters: Virginia Gregory and Mildred Tackell.
Survivors include his wife, Sonia Gouge Sams; one son, Matthew Sams, Hampton; one daughter, Sarah Sams, Hampton; one sister and brother-in-law: Albert and Mary Buchanan, Bluff City; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Clark and Vickie Sams and Herman and Judy Sams all of Bluff City; and Steve and Brenda Sams, Raleigh, NC; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Nadine Odom, Elizabethton, Jim Tackett, South Carolina, and B. R. Gregory, Bluff City.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Shane Waters, Rev. Gary Whitehead, and Rev. Bill Jaynes officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Collins-Simerly Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be the honor guard from Shaw Air Force Base. Honorary pallbearers will be: Dr. Anand Karnad, John Sams, Scott Sams, Boyce Upton, Michael Buchanan, Jason Gouge, Rusty Pippin, Arnold Hughes, Eddie Orr, Glen Gouge, the Visitation Team of Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church and the doctors and nurses at the James H. BRISTOL-- Annie Riggs Stophel, age 93, died Saturday, November 9, 2002 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Stophel was a lifelong resident of Bristol. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Elmer Stophel. She was a member of Central Christian Church, the Loyal Berean Sunday School Class.
Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law: Ruth Stophel Newsome and husband Robert L. (Bob) Newsome; son and daughter-in-law: James E. Stophel, Jr. and wife Frances Stophel of Waltersboro, SC; granddaughter: Ginna Suellen Stophel of Athens, GA; grandsons: Rhett Mixon of Watersboro and Kevin Mixon and wife Donna Gail of Ruffin, SC; great granddaughters Sara and Amanda; several nieces and nephews.

Lamar E. Wright
JOHNSON CITY-- Lamar E. Wright, 72, of 905 Morningside Drive, Johnson City, died Saturday, November 9, 2002 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Greensboro, Georgia. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lamar E. Wright. Mr. Wright was a member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School. Mr. Wright retired from the Unisys Corp. (formally Sperry Corp.) in Bristol. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Reeves Wright in December of 99. He was a member of North East Tennessee Valley Regional Industrial Development Association, a member of the Bristol Morning Rotary Club, a member of the Board of Directors of the Bristol Chamber of Commerce, a member of Board of Directors of the Bristol Credit Union. He served as Director of Bristol Economic Development for the Bristol Chamber of Commerce and until his death he was with the Bristol Tennessee Electric System as Director Economic Development where he won the Bristol Tennessee Electric Service Award for personal service in 2002.
Survivors include: two daughters Deborah R. Masters of Kingsport and J. Gretchen Wright of Bristol, Tennessee; one son, David L. Wright of Bristol, Tennessee; 1 granddaughter, Meghan E. Masters of South Carolina; one great-granddaughter, Summer Brooks of Bristol, Tennessee.

EMORY - A memorial service for Mrs. Gini Bingham will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Emory United Methodist Church with Rev. Beverly Robinette officiating. CHILHOWIE - Roger Wayne Drewry Jr., 36 years old, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. Born Nov. 29, 1965, in Roanoke to Roger Wayne Sr. and Mary A. Correll Drewry, Roger was an avid computer enthusiast and enjoyed science fiction. He also was interested in Native American Culture, writing and was an artist.
Survivors include his parents, Roger Wayne Sr. and Mary A. Correll Drewry, Roanoke; two brothers and sister-in-law, Timothy S. and Dorina Drewry, Bedford, Va., and Jeffery D. Drewry, Roanoke; nieces, Sierra, Alaina, Candice and Kristen Drewry; several aunts and uncles; and special friends, Peggy, Tamara, Chris, Lisa and Ronni Johnson, Meagan Lester, Lloyd and Carolina Powers, Ted Gardner, Carillion Private Duty Nursing staff and Valley Health Care Center.

Ronald L. Haga Sr.
MARION - Ronald L. Haga Sr., 57, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at his residence in Marion.
Mr. Haga was born in Chilhowie to the late William Harry Haga Sr. and Tessie Virginia Mays Haga and was also preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Haga; and a nephew, Christopher Lee Anderson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Francis Marion V.F.W. Post 4667 and the DAV.
Survivors include one son, Ronald L. Haga Jr., Lake Wales, Fla.; one daughter, Wendy Johnson, Churchville, Md.; one stepdaughter, Alisa Roberts, Woodleaf, N.C.; four brothers, William Harry Haga Jr., Marion, Buford C. Haga, Marion, David Dean Haga, Marion and Clarence Edward Haga, Florida; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Mary G. Shelley, 84, 1307 Hillside Ave., died Tuesday afternoon at her residence.
She was a native of Bristol Tennessee. She was the widow of Louis Shelley Sr.
Mrs. Shelley was a member of Lee Street Baptist Church where she served as deaconess and membership chairman for many years. She was a former employee of H.P. King Company.
Survivors include one son, Louis Shelley Jr. and Anita; three grandsons, Todd Shelley, Marietta, Ga., Troy (Nicole) Shelley, Bristol Tennessee, and Tracy (Cathy) Shelley, Bristol Tennessee; one sister, Sara Horton, Brooklyn, N.Y.; one brother, Fred Horton, Brooklyn; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Worley Joseph Smith
Worley Joseph Smith, 90, of 1463 East State St., Bristol, Tenn., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice House. Mr. Smith was born May 4, 1912, a son of the late Arthur and Nettie Bowers Smith. He was a life long resident of the Bristol area and was an employee of the Bristol Country Club. He was also a blacksmith and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Smith; adopted son, Wayne Smith of Woodlawn, Tenn.; three brothers, Daniel Smith, Don Smith and Burton Smith, all of Blountville; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

GLADE SPRING - Mrs. Maude Felty Atkins, 86, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, in Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County. She was the widow of Ake Atkins and was preceded in death by three brothers. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Felty.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ake Jr. and Debbie Atkins of Glade Spring; her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Billy Dixon of Damascus; a daughter, Maudie L. Atkins of Abingdon; one brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Virginia Felty of Bristol, Va.: five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with the Rev. John Massey officiating.
Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery Friday for the service.

Royce Lyle Baker
ABINGDON - Royce Lyle Baker, 67, went home to be with the Lord April 30, 2002, in Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He served in the U.S. Navy. He worked several years as an optician and had a love for bluegrass music. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cardith A. and Violet Boggs Baker; his grandparents, James G. and Missouri Baker; and a brother, Gary Baker.
Surviving are daughters, Mary Heath of Media, Pa., Alicia Mills of Virginia Beach, Kim Friendlander of Long Island, N.Y., Lorrie Long of Indian Mills, N.J., and Sharleen Carnes of Rochester, N.Y; sons James M. Baker of Abingdon, James G. Baker of Bristol, Tenn., Travis Wasko of Bristol, Tenn., and Dave Maggard of Sevierville, Tenn.; sisters Benetta Mullins of Beef Hide, Ky., Lenora Murray of Vancouver, Wash., and Anna Henderson of Washougal, Wash.; brothers Billy J. Baker of Pound and Rodney F. Baker of Pound; 13 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his many friends will mourn his death. He will be sorely missed by all.

John H. Boothe Sr.
NORTH TAZEWELL - John Howard "Johnny" Boothe Sr., 62, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at ClinchValley Medical Center in Richlands following a brief illness.
Johnny was a loving husband, father, grandfather "Pops", son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend to many and his humor and friendship will be missed by all.
He was born July 13, 1939, in the Dry Fork area of Tazewell County and lived most of his life in Tazewell. He was a son of Carrie Little Boothe of North Tazewell and the late George William Boothe. Johnny was a 1957 graduate of Tazewell High School and a graduate of Nashville Diesel Mechanics College. He was employed by General Instruments for 15 years, after leaving General Instrument, he sold insurance for 30 years in the Richlands and Tazewell areas. He attended Pisgah United Methodist Church. Johnny was a lifelong member of the Democratic Party and a charter member of Tazewell Moose Lodge 198. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Pearl Mullins.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his loving wife of 40 years, Margaret Mullins Boothe; son, John Howard Boothe Jr. and wife, Susan; two daughters, Danita Mae Boothe and Melett Boothe Smith and husband, Jerry; one very special grandchild, John Howard "Trey" Boothe III, all of Tazewell; two brothers, Don Boothe of Indianapolis and William "Bill" Boothe and wife, Billy Faye, of Tazewell; four sisters, Dorothy Rasnick and husband, William, Katherine "Kitty" Pruitt and husband, Larry, and Linda "Trixie" Horn and Glenna Myers and husband, Dennis, all of Tazewell; one brother-in-law, Ralph "Moon" Mullins and wife, Blanche, of Richlands; 25 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews, which he loved all.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2002, at Perry & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Vonley Pruitt, the Rev. Jerry Welch and the Rev. Jared Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Whitt, David T. Larimer II, Adrian Mash, Michael L. Boothe, David Horn Jr., William B. Rasnick Jr., Chris Blankenship and Jeff Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Terry Mullins, K.C. Jones, Jerry P. Monk, Ronnie Gibson, Tom Martin, Martin Gibson, Joe Calo, Marvin Hayton and Clint Smith.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002.

SALTVILLE - Helen Callahan, 85, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, in Smyth County Community Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. D.R. Henderson Funeral Home of Saltville is serving the family.
Clayton Colley
VANSANT - Clayton Colley, 51, of Route 1 passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of Gladys Owens Colley and the late James Roland Colley. He was a miner and a member of Tiller Town Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to his father, a brother, Cleveland Colley, also preceded him in death.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Michelle and husband, Jeffrey Barger, of Clinchco; two granddaughters, Joy and Megan; six brothers, James Edward Colley of Dayton, Ohio, Danny Ray Colley of Council, and Donald Lee Colley, Earl Keith Colley, Ralph Colley and Jeffrey Todd Colley, all of Vansant; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2002, at Haysi Funeral Home with Kyle Ratliff, Lee Roy Wilson and Denver Barton officiating. Burial will follow in Colley Cemetery, Route 1, Vansant. Pallbearers will be Daniel Colley, James Colley, Timmy Colley, Andrew Colley, Chris Colley, Johnny Colley, Jimmy Colley and Jeffrey Barger. Friends may call at Haysi Funeral Home Thursday, May 2, after 6 p.m. where an evening service will be held at 7 p.m.

KINGSPORT - Angela Jeanne Gentry Goins, 30, of 417 Barnette Drive died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at her residence. She was a native of Sullivan County and a daughter of Sandra Denton Gentry and the late Kenneth E. Gentry. She was an employee of Fairfield Marketing of Johnson City and a member of Cold Spring Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Alan L. Goins; daughter, Stephanie Laken Gentry of the home; mother, Sandra J. Denton Gentry of Bristol, Tenn.; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H.M. Denton Sr. of Bristol, Tenn.; paternal grandfather, Mr. Tom Gentry of Bristol, Tenn.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Danny and Linda Goins of Church Hill, Tenn.; and special aunts, Donita Denton of Johnson City and Pam Denton of Bristol, Tenn. Also surviving are one nephew and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Errol Rohr and Dr. Cecil Sturgill officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Shipley Cemetery with Dr. Andrew Spence officiating. Honorary pallbearers, Marvin Goins, James E. Denton, H.M. Denton Jr., Marty Denton, Kevin Denton, doctors and staff ETSU Cancer Center, Dr. Ed Griffin and Johnson City Medical Center Hospice Staff.
