William Sebastian Lewis was born on November 1, 1914, in Middleburg, North Carolina. He moved to Boston until he was 18, where he became the best-known local jazz pianist and bandleader to almost never hit the road.
He died on July 9, 1994, at age 79. Lewis was elected to the New England Jazz Hall of Fame in 2001.
