Bill Cameron died on Friday March 11 around midnight after a battle with cancer. Cameron was an award-winning journalist, broadcaster, and writer. He is best known as an anchor, writer, reporter and documentary producer for CBC Television's news magazine program, The Journal. Cameron's illustrious career started in the mid 1960's and was full of journalistic achievements. He covered almost 40 years of Canadian and international history winning a Gemini Award for his exemplary work as anchor for the evening newscast while he was with CBLT, CBC's Toronto flagship station.
Cameron was also known as a writer and had a long background in print with the Toronto Star, Macleans Magazine, Saturday Night Magazine and the National Post. Cameron's writing efforts also include a novel, Cat's Crossing, which has been described as a "dark and uproarious satire about media, the modern city and a missing cat". He also reported from many war zones around the world - Mozambique, Rowanda, The West Bank, Nicaragua, Croatia and Libya.
Cameron is survived by his wife, Cheryl Hawkes and their three children, Patrick, Rachel and Nicolas.
