Rebecca Schaeffer young Hollywood actress was shot and killed on this day July 18, 1989 by a deranged fan at the age of 21. At the time she was staring in the hit TV sit-com “My Sister Sam” along side Pam Dauber formerly of (Mork & Mindy).
Born on November 6, 1967 in Eugene, Oregon, Rebecca realized a very young age that she wanted to become a performer. She started out as a model and later decided to study acting with Robert Modica.
Rebecca’s short life was ended when an obsessed stalker obtained her address through the branch of the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The killer disguised himself as a flower delivery man and gained entry into her home, than shot her.
Schaeffer's killer was tried and convicted by prosecutor Marcia Clark, who later become most famous for her unsuccessful attempts to prosecute O.J. Simpson. Rebecca’s killer was found to have in his possession a copy of J.D. Salinger's "Catcher in the Rye" at the time of his arrest. Her death has helped establish laws in the United States to protect celebrities' privacy.
