Actor Edward Arnold died April 26, 1956. He was 66.
Arnold was born in New York City on February 18, 1890.
Growing up poor, Arnold was educated at the East Side Settlement House where he became interested in acting.
He was a successful Broadway actor, and began a movie career with Essanay Studio in Chicago, starring in westerns.
Alternating between the stage and films, he made his film debut with The Misleading Lady in 1915.
His first sound movie was Rasputin and the Empress in 1932.
Arnold went on to co-star in such classics as 1939's Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, portraying character Jim Taylor, one of his best-known roles.
He made over 100 films in his 40-year career.
Arnold died in Encino, California of a cerebral hemorrhage on April 26, 1956.
