Marvin Gaye, R&B Soul Singer
April 02, 1939 - April 01, 1984

Marvin Gaye, (R&B Vocalist) is best remembered for his song ”Sexual Healing" which won him a Grammy for Best R&B Male Vocalist. Marvin’s successful career spanned three decades from the 50’s up until his death in the 80’s. Marvin was born April 2, 1939 in Washington D.C. Often times Marvin and his father who was a stern preacher, butted heads over differing opinions and ideas. However, this did not deter Marvin from participating in his father’s church choir. Marvin enjoyed singing in the choir, and later went on to play the keyboards and drums. By the late 50’s Marvin decided to make music for a living. One of Marvin’s friend’s named Fuqua moved to Detroit and started his own record company called Tri-Phi Records. Fuqua convinced Marvin to move to Motown as well. Soon enough Marvin signed a major record deal and was on his way to becoming a superstar. Marvin began to work with Motown’s finest producers, and musicians and started to pump out hit after hit. Some of his most memorable songs were "What's Going On” and "How Sweet It Is to Be Loved By You" just to name a few.

Although Marvin experienced great success on the record charts, he remained unsuccessful in love and his financial affaires. He ended his marriage to first wife Anna Gordy after fourteen years. He re-married his second wife Janice in 1977 and had two children Nona and Frankie. The IRS soon began to suspected Marvin of tax evasion and began investigating him. Marvin fled to Europe to evade their questioning. By the 80’s Marvin returned to the U.S, broke and abandoned by his wife and kids. Marvin’s drug abuse and depression caught up with him. His father took him in and allowed his son to live with him. In a heated rage Marvin’s father shot and killed his son Marvin Gaye on April 1, 1984.
