Sir Isaac Newton, Mathematician and Physicist
December 25, 1642 - March 20, 1727

Sir Isaac Newton (one of the foremost scientific intellects of all times) was a mathematician and physicist. Born in Lincolnshire, near Grantham, on December 25, 1642 to a poor farming family. The history of the world could have been changed forever had Newton followed tradition and took over the family farm. Upon his mother’s blessing and better judgment, Newton was sent away to study. It was not long until Newton gained academic attention for his brilliance in mathematics. By 1656 Newton eventually returned home to learn about the family farm. For the most part Newton spent a lot of time solving problems, conducting experiments and creating mechanical devises. Newton’s mother realized her son was truly gifted, and managed to send him away to study in Cambridge.

While Newton was at Cambridge in (1661-1696) he lectured for most of his years there. It was during the Cambridge years that he reached the peak of his creative discoveries. He expanded the binomial theorem, discovered the laws of gravity, invented calculus, and proved that white light is composed of all colors. These discoveries have changed our world as we know it today. Newton also held some prestigious titles within the upper class of London society. He became an elected Member of Parliament for the University of Cambridge in 1689, a Master of the Mint in 1699, and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of London in 1671. Newton was a modest man who was good to his friends. However, he was viciously harsh towards his critics and especially heartless towards his enemies. He lived a modest and lonely life despite the social circles he maintained. Sir Isaac Newton at Kensington, London, on March 20, 1727 and was buried in Westminster Abbey in grand style.
