Betty Lou Sisco, 72, of Newport died on January 27, 2002, at Bel-Aire Quality Care in Newport following a long illness.
Ms. Sisco was born in Newport on November 25, 1929, the daughter of Henry and Ruth (Shastany) Sisco. She attended Newport schools, graduating in 1949. She attended Orleans County Hospital’s licensed practical nurse (LPN) training and served as a LPN for 48 years. She retired from North Country Hospital in 1996. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star for 37 years and held various offices. She was also very active in the American Legion Auxiliary serving as president for three years and holding various offices. She was also a member of the 8/40 of the American Legion. She was a dedicated member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, where she sang in the choir.
She is survived by her mother, Ruth Sisco, of Newport; by her brothers Ralph and Patti Sisco and family of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Warren and Carole Sisco and family of Camden, New York; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Henry J. Sisco.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 30, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Newport with the Reverend Paul James officiating. Spring interment will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery.

Robert G. Cole
Robert G. Cole, 70, of Westmore died at his home in Westmore on Saturday, January 26, 2002, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Cole was born in Westmore on September 23, 1931, the son of George and Thelma (Perkins) Cole. He owned and operated a farm in Westmore with his brother Alan for many years. He loved listening to music, working with wood, and working with trains. He also loved being with members of his family. He was a longtime member of Island Pond Masonic Lodge No. 44 F&AM.
He is survived by his brothers Everett Cole and his wife, Lynda, of Essex and Alan Cole and his wife, Pat, of Westmore; by his sisters: Charlotte Dane and her husband, Clair, of West Charleston, Eva Hosford and her husband, Larry, of East Charleston, Elaine Leblanc of West Glover, and Shirley Bowen of Derby; by his very special friend, Anne Green, of California; by his special friends and neighbors: Ronnie Simons, Mike and Brenda Beattie, and John and Sara Nielson; and by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 29, at Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport with the Reverend Richard Whitehill officiating. Spring interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Westmore with a Masonic service.

Ernestine E. Conley
Ernestine E. Conley, 71, of Orleans, died after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease at Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton on Friday, January 25, 2002.
Mrs. Conley was born in Coventry on March 18, 1930, the daughter of Ernest Herbert and Charlotte (Lathe) Wright. She worked as a nurse’s aid at Wassaic State Hospital in New York for five years, then as a nurse’s aide and a cook for Elm Street Nursing Home, formerly in Barton, for seven years, and at the Crystal Lodge in Barton for 20 years. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening, cooking, making doughnuts, etc. She was also a dedicated private caregiver for many elderly people.
On November 29, 1974, she married Jesse Conley, who survives her. She is also survived by her children: Elizabeth LaFountain of Newport, Janice Conley and her husband, Bruce, of Glover, Maryann Landry and her husband, Ronald, of Brownington, Lorraine Reeves and her husband, Larry, of Cannon City, Colorado, Barbara Wing and her husband, Albert, of Madison, Florida, Brian Dewing and his wife, Nancy, of Coventry, and Stephen Dewing and his wife, Lori, of North Troy; and by her sister-in-law Phyllis Wright of Newport. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and by five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; by her stepmother, Mildred Wright; by her brother Wayne Wright; and by her half-brother Ernie Wright.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 29, at Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Barton with the Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating. Spring interment will take place at Pleasantview Cemetery in Orleans.
