Helen Jacobsen, 98, formerly of Millbrook, New York, died at her home in Albany on Friday, January 25, 2002.
Ms. Jacobsen was born in Sparkill, New York, on February 10, 1903, the daughter of Axel and Andrea (Knutsen) Jacobsen. She was a graduate of the Palmer School and worked as a secretary for several businesses in New York.
She came to Greensboro in the mid-1990s to reside with her niece Ruth MacLeod, who predeceased her. She moved to Craftsbury Community Care Center for a short time and has made her home in Albany since 1998.
She leaves grand-nieces and grand-nephews: Craig Jacobsen of Life Oaks, Florida, Donald MacLeod of Hartford, Connecticut, Sandra MacLeod of Sausalito, California, Jeanne Eisner of Greensboro, and Karen VanSkiki of Grass Valley, California; a cousin, Susanne Keuhm, of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey; and a close grand-niece-in-law, Doris Jacobsen, of Sierra Vista, Arizona. She will be missed by the many caregivers who cared for her while in Albany.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 31, at Albany United Methodist Church in Albany with Pastor Nathan Strong officiating. Final interment will be in Nine Partners Cemetery in Millbrook on February 1. There will be no calling hours.

Doris R. Vance
Doris R. Vance, 92, a lifelong resident of Albany, died at North Country Hospital in Newport on Monday, January 21, 2002, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Vance was born in Albany on April 9, 1909, the daughter of Fred E. and Mabel (Anderson) Twombly. She attended Creek Grade School in Albany and was a graduate of Orleans High School. In 1930 she married Maurice Vance and moved to the village where she had since made her home.
The Vances owned and operated a general store in Albany Village for many years. Mrs. Vance was the principal in that enterprise as Mr. Vance was busy with his trucking business at the time. She loved to cook and had a large vegetable and berry garden, as well as flowers.
Active in the community, she was a member of Albany United Methodist Church, a member of the United Methodist Women’s Club, and was active in recent years in Albany Historical Society.
Survivors include special nieces and nephews who helped her, especially after her stroke in June 1999. They include Jack Healey and his wife, Grace, of Toms Brook, Virginia, Jean Hackett of Hardwick, Dina Neiman of Georgia, Ron Hackett and his wife, Celia, of South Hero, and Albert Long and his wife, Marge, of Sterling, Massachusetts; as well as several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice, in 1975; by four brothers: Roland, Albert, Clyde, and Ray Twombly; and by a sister, Pauline Healey.
A memorial service was held Saturday, January 26, at Albany United Methodist Church with Pastor Nathan Strong officiating. Final interment will be in Irasburg Cemetery.

Beryl M. Willson
Beryl M. Willson, 79, most recently of Irasburg, died Saturday, January 26, 2002, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
Born in Newport Center on May 3, 1922, Mrs. Willson was the daughter of Alton and Beatrice (Larabee) Harvey. She and Bruce Willson were married at Miles Pond on September 5, 1943.
The Willsons were former residents of East St. Johnsbury, Derby Line, Danville, Peacham, Waterford, West Charleston, and Coventry. She attended Albany United Methodist Church.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Bruce; by four children: Sherry Simino and her husband, Dale, of West Charleston, Ron Willson and his wife, Lisa, of Derby, Sue Patneaude and her husband, Roy, of Derby, and Sandy Kaiser and her husband, Phil, of Eden; by 15 grandchildren; by 16 great-grandchildren; by one brother, Lloyd Harvey, and his wife, Elaine, of Derby; by foster child Rosie Alexander and her husband, Danny, of Indiana; by a few cousins, including Virginia Blodgett of Orleans and Shirley McLaughlin of Lyndonville. She was predeceased by her parents and by a brother, Claire.
Funeral services will be held in St. Johnsbury at Sayles Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 30, at 11 a.m. The Reverend Nathan Strong, pastor of Albany United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the springtime at Riverside Cemetery in Lower Waterford.
The family suggests memorial contributions could be sent to Albany United Methodist Church, 115 Creek Road, Irasburg, Vermont 05845.
