Donald G. Douglas, 85, of North Troy, died suddenly in Newport Center on Tuesday, January 30, 2001.
Mr. Douglas was born in St. Albans on October 17, 1915, the son of George and Maude (Hunt) Douglas. He owned and operated a farm in North Troy with his wife for over 45 years. He enjoyed traveling and being with his family. He particularly enjoyed his grandchildren, and his family strongly feels that he epitomized the word love through the care he provided for his wife. He also enjoyed working in his shop making several different furniture items for his house.
On April 18, 1936, he married Christine Kingsley, who survives him. He is also survived by his sons: Donald and his wife, Dee, of Yorba Linda, California, Bruce and his wife, Donna, of Essex Center, and George and his wife, Maxine, of North Troy; by his brother Robert and his wife, Lillian, of Fairfax; by ten grandchildren; by 18 great-grandchildren; and by one great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his daughter Kathy and by his brother Kenneth.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, February 3, at Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport with Mr. Douglas' son George and his grandson-in-law George Lawson officiating. Spring interment will take place at North Troy Village Cemetery.

Bernice B. (Deslandes) Messier
Bernice B. (Deslandes) Messier, 56, of Newport Center, died at her home on Friday, February 2, 2001.
Mrs. Messier was born in West Shefford, Quebec, on September 18, 1944, the daughter of J. Germain and Loretta (Frazer) Deslandes. She worked as a receptionist at North Country Hospital for nine years. She owned Foto Barn in the late 1970s and was also a child-care provider. She loved to dance. She enjoyed being with family members, particularly the children. She enjoyed shopping and various aspects of photography. She made quilts for family members and gave 110 percent to any project she undertook. She had a great green thumb as evidenced by the houseplants and her lovely flower and vegetable gardens. She was a member of Newport Center Home Dem.
On June 2, 1962, she married Richard Messier, who survives her. She is also survived by her sons, Lawrence Messier of Newport Center and Andre Messier and his wife, Kim, of North Troy; by her grandchildren: Jason Messier, Celeste Messier, and Krystal Messier of Newport, Jewell Mason of East Calais, and Darik and Mathew Messier of North Troy; by her brothers: Norbert Deslandes and his wife, Yvette, of Irasburg, Richard Deslandes of Newport Center, Roland Deslandes and his wife, Beatrice, of Newport Center, Lionel Deslandes and his wife, Janice, of Orleans, and Michael Deslandes and his wife, Sandra, of Newport; by her sisters, Lorraine Brasseur and her husband, Richard, of Irasburg, and Denise Corriveau and her husband, Bruno, of Derby Line; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Francis and Marguerite Beaumier, of Coventry; by her uncle Dosithe Deslandes of Granby, Quebec; by her aunt and godmother Beatrice Picotte of Providence, Rhode Island; by her godchild Hallie Rhodes Zoroufy; by 34 nieces and nephews; by 44 grandnieces and grandnephews, and by a great-great-niece. She was predeceased by her parents, J. Germain and Loretta Deslandes; by her sisters, Irene delaBruere and Carmen Kerr; and by a nephew, Paul delaBruere.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 5, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in North Troy with the Reverend George Paulin officiating. Spring interment will take place at Lake Road Cemetery in Newport Center.

Beverly M. Stevens
Beverly M. Stevens, 70, died Sunday at Brookside Nursing Home in White River Junction.
Mrs. Stevens was born August 12, 1930, in Barton, a daughter of Leonard and Nellie (Coville). She attended school in Barton and lived for most of her life in St. Johnsbury. She also lived in Lyndonville for a time. She worked for many years as a live-in caregiver to elderly people.
She enjoyed bingo, dancing, and most of all, spending time with her children. She was very thankful for the wonderful care she received during her recent illness from Canterbury Inn, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and Brookside Nursing Home.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Mike and Royce Stevens. She leaves two sons, Ricky Dillon of Newport News, Virginia, and Todd Dillon of Woodsville, New Hampshire; a daughter, Tracy McCullock, of York, Pennsylvania; several grandchildren; and two sisters, Glenava Simons of Derby Line and Marion Tonlino of Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
A graveside memorial service will take place in the spring in Lyndon Center Cemetery.
