Lois (Guy) Hammond, 76, of Newport Center died July 21, 2003, in Newport.
Mrs. Hammond was born July 19, 1927, in Newport, a daughter of Lewis and Violet (Henderson) Guy. On January 11,1948, she married Lyle William Hammond, who predeceased her on October 15, 2001.
She graduated from Burdette Business College in Boston, Massachusetts. She began her career as legal secretary for a law office in St. Johnsbury. After her marriage she was a helpmate with the family farm in Newport Center for more than 30 years. She later was employed as a secretary to Phil Rowell at Ethan Allen Manufacturing in Orleans for several years.
She held membership with the American Legion Post No. 21 Auxiliary of Newport for 22 years.
She is survived by her children: Lynn O’Leary of Waterville, Laurel Hammond and her husband, Neal Smith, of Fletcher, and Leslie Hammond and his wife, Donna, Leonard Hammond and his wife, JoAnne, and Charles Hammond and his wife, Jean, all of Newport Center; by 15 grandchildren; by 14 great-grandchildren; by the following sister and brothers: Phyllis Jones of Ludlow, George Guy of St. Johnsbury, Donald Guy and his wife, Norma, of Ludlow, and Ronald Guy of Lyndonville; by a sister-in-law, Vivian Urie, of Newport; by brother-in-law Winston Hammond and his wife, Lucille, of Newport; and by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held July 25 at Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel in Newport with the Reverend Carl Shoemaker officiating. Interment followed in Lake Road Cemetery.

John E. Aldrich
John E. Aldrich, 61, of Hadlyme, Connecticut, died July 21, 2003, in Middletown, Connecticut.
Mr. Aldrich was born July 11, 1942, in Windsor, a son of Marion (Fox) Aldrich and the late Roderic Aldrich. On July 30, 1966, he married Neta Brooks, who survives him.
He was a heavy equipment operator for K.C. Mazer Company in Connecticut.
He enjoyed working with the earth, not only on a job but to dig stones, rocks, etc., for use in landscaping and any other use his clients may have had. Family was a big part of his life and he loved family gatherings. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with family members. He enjoyed wildlife in general.
He is survived by his wife, Neta Aldrich, of Hadlyme; by his mother, Marion Aldrich, of Brownington; by the following children: Tim Aldrich of New Hampshire, Rodney Aldrich and his wife, Everlyn, of Richford, Ronald Aldrich of Richford, Wanda Sorrelle and her husband, David, of East Hampton, Connecticut, Ted Aldrich and his wife, Tammy, of West Charleston, Michael Aldrich and his dear friend, Kim, of Ocala, Florida, and David Aldrich and his wife, Sharon, of Haddam, Connecticut; by 15 grandchildren; by five great-grandchildren; by two brothers, Michael Aldrich and his wife, Claire, of Isle LaMont and Steven Aldrich and his wife, Linda, of Brownington; by a sister, Gail McKenna, and her husband, Tim, of Jericho; and by several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. He was predeceased by a granddaughter.
Funeral services were held July 26 at Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home with the Reverend Roger Fletcher officiating. Interment followed in Hillside Cemetery in East Charleston. A memorial service will also be held on August 4 at 6 p.m. at the Old Lyme Public Hall in Hamburg, Connecticut.

Eva E. Coderre
Eva E. Coderre, 68, of Irasburg, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at the Bel-Aire Nursing Home in Newport.
Mrs. Coderre was born July 18, 1935, in Albany, the daughter of the late Abner and Eulalee (Shedd) Poutry. She attended Albany public schools. She married Marcel Coderre on August 21, 1954, in Barton. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, and craft work.
Survivors include her husband, Marcel and a daughter, Verna Coderre, both of Irasburg; a brother, Olmand Poutry and his wife, Ethel, of Clinton, Massachusetts; two sisters, Bessie Poutry of Rockingham, North Carolina, and Dorcas Suitor and her husband, David, of Swanton; and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a daughter, Vanesa Coderre; and a brother, Percy Poutry.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 26, 2003, at the United Church of Irasburg with the Reverend Rona Anderson officiating. Burial followed in the Craftsbury Village Cemetery.
