Alice Gillis of Island Pond, VT, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 29th , 2012 in Newport, VT, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 83.
She was born Alice Ruth Carr at the home of George and Clara (Langmaid) Carr on July 23rd, 1928 in Newark, Vt.
Alice was 4th and last remaining of eight children.
She married Archie Joseph Gillis on February 2, 1952.
She was a loving mother of six children.
Alice enjoyed reading, knitting, quilting and spending time traveling to various parts of the country visiting family with Archie.
She also traveled to many exciting places with her friends from the Sunrise Manor.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Community Circle and volunteered for various organizations over the years.
She enjoyed working at and retired from the Senior meals site in Island Pond.
She was adored by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by three sons: David Gillis and wife Linda of Yuma, AZ, Brian Gillis of Island Pond, and Steve and Laura Gillis of Sterling AK.
Two Daughters: Betty Biggs of Barre, VT, and Donna Chesney and her husband Roger of Island Pond, VT; 14 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren.
She was Predeceased by her husband Archie Gillis and their son Scott Allen Gillis, 4 Brothers: Alton, Earl, Merton and Robert Carr, and three sisters: Thelma Cutting, Florence Meyette and Elaine Carr.
Visiting hours will be held at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford funeral Home, 1199 Railroad Street, Island Pond on Sunday, March 4th from 2-4pm. Funeral services will be held at the Saint James Catholic Church (Parish Hall) in Island Pond on Monday, March 5th at 11:00am .
Burial to be announced.

Kate Calhoun Lewis
(Died June 13, 2011)
Kate Calhoun Lewis, 79, a resident of Derby Line, Vermont, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness, surrounded by her loving family, on June 13, 2011.
She was born on February 15th, 1932, in Dover, New Jersey, the daughter of George and Belle [Coley] Calhoun.
She attended and graduated from Roxbury High School, Roxbury, New Jersey.
On July 2nd, 1950, she married Herbert C. Lewis, at her parent's home in Mount Arlington, New Jersey.
Beloved wife of of 61 years of Herbert C. Lewis, and Beloved mother and grandmother of: Dave Lewis and wife Denise of Budd Lake New Jersey, Sharon Lewis of Derby Line, Vermont, Daniel Lewis and wife Vicky of Derby Line Vermont, Bob Lewis and wife Cheryl of Oakridge, New Jersey, and the following grandchildren; David J Lewis, Jennifer Lewis, Sydney Carter, Nicholas Lewis, Rebecca Lewis, Brandon Lewis, and Noelle Lewis.
She is the sister of Robert Calhoun of Island Pond, Vermont, James Calhoun of Athens, Pennsylvania, George Calhoun of Confluence, Pennsylvania.
She was predeceased by a brother David Calhoun of Morgan, Vermont.
She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Kate was a friend to everyone, and welcomed all with a loving and accepting heart.
She spent her years as a devoted and loving wife, mother, and homemaker.
Kate was an avid, accomplished, and professional knitter and crocheter, she shared her beautiful handiwork with many.
Kate also applied herself extensively and was devoted to her ministry as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Kate was a true matriarch of her family, who always provided ongoing support, guidance, love and friendship.
She will be greatly missed by all her knew her and loved her, and all who knew her, loved her.
A memorial Service in her honor will be held on Friday, June 17th, at 10.00 am, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, and 389 Citizens Rd, Newport, Vermont.
A gathering of refreshments and fellowship will immediately follow the service at 391 Whittier Rd, Derby Line, Vermont.

Clifton R. Kennison, Jr
(December 28, 1929 - February 14, 2012)
Clifton R. Kennison, Jr 82, of Westfield, VT, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at his home with several of his family members present.
He was born on December 28, 1929 in Westfield, VT, a son of Clifton, Sr, and Florence (Hackett) Kennison.
Junior graduated from Newport Center High School in 1949.
He married Erlah St. Onge on December 23, 1950 who survives him.
Junior was a past member of the Newport Elks and he was road commissioner for the Town of Westfield for over 30 years until his retirement.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and conversing with his many friends in the area and he always did so with his wonderful sense of humor.
He was a man who liked his work both for the Town and for his own construction business.
Junior especially loved his family, their visits and the family gatherings at the pond.
He is survived by his wife Erlah Kennison of Westfield, by his children: Deborah Murphy and her husband Michael, Dorothy Deslandes and her husband Russell, and Larry Kennison.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Tracy Roberts and her husband Dennis, Kristy Ellis and her husband Steve, Kate Murphy, Eric Kennison and his wife Jess, Brad Kennison, Stacey Kennison, Nate Deslandes and his wife Lisa, Jamie Santaw and her husband Mike and by his great grandchildren: Miranda and Mariah Roberts, Manning and Zak Ellis, Kaiden Kennison, Adelle and Jacob Prue, Brianna, Emma, and Leah Deslandes, and Brooklyn and Destiny Santaw, as well as his brothers: Raymond Kennison of Lowville, NY, and Roger Kennison and his wife Jeanine of Troy, VT.
A graveside service at the Westfield Cemetery will be held in the Spring with the date and time to be announced.

Evelyn M. McMahon
(June 25, 1933 - February 18, 2012)
Evelyn M. McMahon, 78, of Orleans, passed away February 18, 2012 in St. Johnsbury, VT.
She was born June 25, 1933 in Coventry, VT, a daughter of Alfred and Catherine (Gauthier) LaCourse.
Mrs. McMahon was a housekeeper for Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton from 1971-2004. Her hobbies included doing jig saw puzzles, game shows, and she enjoyed fishing as she had her own fish store in Orleans called Pets Plus. She loved her dog Fiona. She was a former seamstress for Slalom ski wear and other companies.
She is survived by her son Patrick LaCourse and his wife Marlene of Lyndonville, and her daughter Amy Girard of Orleans.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Katie Vezina of Lyndonville, VT, Amanda Girard of Orleans, VT, and Benjamin Roberts of Orleans, VT.
She is also survived by her brother Donald LaCourse and his wife June of Orleans and by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a son Ronald LaCourse on April 8, 2011 and by a sister Elsinore Lanoue and a brother Norbert LaCourse. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road, Newport.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday February 22, 2012 from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of the funeral.

Philip D. Demers
(January 23, 1944 - February 21, 2012)
Philip D. Demers, 68, of Derby, VT, passed away suddenly on February 21, 2012 in Newport, VT.
He was born January 23, 1944 in North Troy, VT a son of Paul and Norma (Thomas) Demers.
Mr. Demers was a truck driver for Pike Industries for 30 plus years.
In his earlier years he worked on several farms and the former Natole Motor Company.
Phil enjoyed going to Short Stop for coffee with the boys and spending time with Alexis and Clarissa, his beloved grandchildren.
He also liked to go bowling and he also plowed snow for Foster Whipple and several yards for himself.
Phil was a member of the Eagles.
He is survived by his children: Doug Demers and his wife Johanna and their children Alexis and Clarissa of Westfield, VT, and by his step daughter Tammy Gilfillan and her husband Ron of Holland, VT.
He is also survived by his mother Norma Demers of Newport Center, VT, and by his step grandchildren: Jordan, Courtney, and Crystal and by a great grandson Cedar.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters: James Demers of Derby, John Demers and his wife Susan of Newport Center, VT, Mark Demers of Newport Center, VT, Gail Demers of Newport Center, VT, Dorothy Hemingway of Wyoming, Susan Hansen and her husband Reginald of North Troy, VT, Shirley Santaw and her husband Alfred of North Troy, VT, and Mary Blake of North Troy, VT and by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father Paul Demers and by his brothers Robert and baby George.
Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. on Friday February 24, 2012 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road, Newport, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 25, 2012.
Interment will take place in the Spring.

Carol Ann Alexander

Carol Ann Alexander, 61, of Newport Center, VT, passed away suddenly on February 24, 2012 at her home in Newport Center, VT.
She was born June 16, 1950 in Barton, VT, the daughter of Wesley and Esther (Crawshaw) Lafoe.
On May 31, 2008, she married John Alexander who survives her.
She graduated from Lake Region Union High School.
Carol was a wreath maker for many years.
She enjoyed her trips to CT, gardening, doing puzzles, canning and attending yard-sales with her best friend Sharon Crowe.
She is survived by her husband John Alexander of Newport Center, VT; her children: Gerri Hilliker and her husband Adam of Newport Center, VT, Richard Whittier and his wife Christine of North Troy, VT, and Travis Waterman and his companion Laura Price of Newport Center, VT; 17 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; her brothers: Ricky Gene Lafoe of North Troy, VT, Brian Craig Lafoe and his wife Judy of Orleans, VT, by her step children: Kimberly Cicio and her husband Tim of Coventry, VT, John Alexander, Jr and his wife Crystal of Derby, VT, and Laura Macken and her husband, Dan of Vollentown, CT; and by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Gary Lafoe in 2007.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road, Newport with the Rev. Richard O’Hara officiating.
