Gerald A. Snyder

Vancouver

A retired roofer who lived in Vancouver the past 12 years, Gerald A. Snyder, died at a local care center Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000. He was 61.

Mr. Snyder was born Oct. 26, 1939, in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Survivors include one daughter, Claudia M. Snyder of Pennsylvania; three sisters, Michaelene Tanino of Vancouver, Carol Ivy of Lincoln City, Ore., and Pat Kuhn of Bend, Ore.; and one brother, John C. of Portland.

He enjoyed fishing and camping.

There will be a private service. Davies Cremation and Burial Services is in charge of arrangements.

Irene O. Cameron

Vancouver

A member of the Church of The Good Shepherd who was involved in bowling leagues and the Danish Brotherhood in American, Irene O. Cameron, 86, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, in a Clackamas, Ore., hospital.

Mrs. Cameron was born Jan. 7, 1914, in Tacoma and was raised in the Puget Sound area. She lived in Vancouver for 32 years and was retired from the Arlington Club, where she worked as a cook.

She enjoyed sewing, walking and baking.

She was preceded in death by a son, James Cameron; a grandson; and her husband of 47 years, LeRoy, who died in 1985.

Survivors include one son, Tim of Vancouver; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Church of The Good Shepherd. Burial will be private in Park Hill Cemetery. Davies Cremation and Burial Service is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Timothy E. Cameron Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of the Vancouver School District, 4100 Plomondon St., Vancouver, WA 98661.

Vernon p. Thomas

Brush Prairie

A member of the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders Association and the Clark County Saddle Club, Vernon Phillip Thomas died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, in Vancouver. He was 84.

Mr. Thomas was born Feb. 10, 1916, in Battle Ground and lived his entire life in Clark County. He was a past member of the Elks Lodge and enjoyed hunting, fishing, visiting. He also liked playing cards, especially rummy, skipbo and liar's poker.

He was preceded in death by a son, Monte, who died in 1967 in Vietnam.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Dolores, at home; one daughter, Terry LeBoeuf of Ridgefield; two sons, Phillip of Battle Ground and Frank of Brush Prairie; one sister, Frances Williams of Ridgefield; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

There will be no service. Layne's Funeral Home in Battle Ground is in charge of arrangements.

Robert D. Brady

Vancouver

Robert D. Brady, a carpenter who lived in Vancouver the past 26 years, died in Vancouver Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000. He was 67.

Mr. Brady was born May 28, 1933, in Independence, Kan.

Survivors include his wife, Dee, at home; one daughter, Janet Fox of Sacramento, Calif.; one son, Russell of Toutle, Wash.; one brother, Eugene A. of Coffeyville, Kan.; one sister, Barbara Boston of Lawrence, Kan.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, James A., in 1979 and Jeffrey in 1999.

Mr. Brady, who was a member of Clark Rifles Association and the National Rifle Association, enjoyed target pistol competition. He also liked gardening.

A service will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, with burial in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to charity of donor's choice.

Scott A. Clawson

Ridgefield

A funeral will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel for Scott A. Clawson, who died at Southwest Washington Medical Center Friday, Nov. 10, 2000. He was 94.

Born Sept. 17, 1906, in Portland, Mr. Clawson lived in Clark County the past 50 years.

He was an electrical construction foreman for the Bonneville Power Administration in Vancouver for 30 years, retiring in 1972.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Daisy, at home; one daughter, Virginia Fry of Battle Ground; one son, Walter S. of Lyle, Wash.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

After Mr. Clawson retired from BPA, he operated a blueberry farm.

He was a retired fire chief for the volunteer Woodland Fire Department.

Mr. Clawson was a member of the Washington Widows and Orphans Fund and Mount Hood Masonic Lodge 32. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The casket will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Shirley M. Mosley

Vancouver

A service will begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church for Shirley Marilyn Mosley, who died at her Vancouver home Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, of cancer and emphysema. She was 69.

Mrs. Mosley, a homemaker, was a member of the Clark County Lung Club and Messiah Lutheran Church.

She was born April 8, 1931, in Marcus, Wash., and lived in Vancouver for many years. Her maiden name was Brauner.

Survivors include her husband, Charles, at home; three daughters, Candace Ferraro of Astoria, and Judith Ping and Patricia Mosley, both of Vancouver; four brothers, Dick Brauner, Bill Brauner, Lloyd Brauner and Elmo Brauner; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Clark County Lung Club, 700 N.E. 87th Ave., Vancouver, WA 98664.

Ronald G. Neal

Vancouver

A graveside service will begin at 10 a.m. today at Brush Prairie Cemetery for Ronald Gene Neal, who died at home Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000. He was 59.

He retired as a driver and mechanic for Felton Trucking in Oregon.

Survivors include his mother, Lavon Neal of Vancouver; and two sisters, Shirley Bontz and Vickie Neal, both of Vancouver.

Mr. Neal was Oct. 15, 1941, in Compton, Calif.

He enjoyed steam engines and model railroading.

Evergreen Staples Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mayme J. Norman

Vancouver

Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Mayme Johanna Norman, who died at a local care center Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000. She was 100.

Mrs. Norman was born Aug. 29, 1900, in Lawler, Iowa, and lived in Clark County the past 56 years. Her maiden name was Gerstner.

Family members preceding her in death include her husband, Robert O., in 1962; a daughter, Lorraine A. Knable, in 1992; and sons Robert G., in 1990, Harry O., in 1950, John, in 1972, and James E. in 1997.

Survivors include five daughters, Edith M. Wood, Maureen A. Miller and Sharon J. Poyfair, all of Vancouver, Jean Urias of Escondido, Calif., and Naomi I. Hamblin of Portland; two sons, David A. of Vancouver and Jerome J. of Spokane; 41 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Norman loved to visit with friends and play bingo.

The casket will be open from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church before a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Vancouver Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Ila M.C. Young

Vancouver

A retired nurse who lived and worked in Vancouver for many years, Ila Marguerite Carnahan Young died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at Kamlu in Hazel Dell. She was 81.

Mrs. Young was born Dec. 26, 1918, in Gaston, Ore.

She worked as a graduate nurse in several local hospitals.

Mrs. Young liked hiking and mountain climbing, especially on Mount Olympus. She also loved gardening.

Survivors include a nephew, Douglas Carnahan of Meridian, Idaho; and her many friends at Kamlu, where she lived for the past nine years.

Her body was cremated. There will be no service.

James A. Barrone

Reedsport, Ore.

Former Vancouver resident James A. Barrone Sr. died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Lower Umpqua Hospital in Reedsport. He was 59.

Mr. Barrone was born Aug. 18, 1941, in Portland and lived in Vancouver until 1963, when he married his wife, Ellene, and moved to Douglas County, where he lived for 36 years.

He served in the Navy from 1961 until 1965 and worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier for 29 years. He enjoyed watching football, basketball and baseball, and worked with the Reedsport Summer Recreation Association youth baseball program for many years. He was a member and past president of the Reedsport Booster Club and served as a volunteer with the Reedsport Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years. He was also a 30-year member of the Elks Lodge in Reedsport.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Ellene, at home; two sons, Skipper and Rick, both of Reedsport; one daughter, Margaret Lowrey of Reedsport; two sisters, Diana Tanner of California and Bernice Weber of Washington; and three granddaughters.

The casket will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Dunes Memorial Chapel, 2300 Frontage Road in Reedsport. A rosary will follow at the chapel beginning at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church in Reedsport. Burial will be in Reedsport Masonic Cemetery. Dunes Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Johnny J. Carlson

Vancouver

A truck driver who worked for United Stationers in Portland, Johnny Jim Carlson, 54, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at Southwest Washington Medical Center.

Mr. Carlson was born Feb. 25, 1947, in Butte, Mont., and lived in Vancouver since 1991. The kids in his neighborhood liked to hang out at his house, and he enjoyed his family, gardening, hiking, camping and cooking.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia, at home; one daughter, Beverly Loveness of Milwaukie, Ore.; four sons, John J. and Robert, both of Butte, Mont., and Jonmichael and Joshua, both at home; two brothers, Terry and Richard, both of Butte; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Evergreen Staples Funeral Chapel. The body will be cremated, and an inurnment service is pending in Butte. Memorial contributions may be made to Doernbecher Children's Hospital, 3181 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97201.
