Marie E. Russell

Former Vancouver resident Marie E. Lindblad Russell born March 28, 1911, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
She died in 1985.
Survivors include her husband of 11 years, Orlando "Russ" Russell, at home; two daughters, Marlene Vander Veer of Vancouver, Norma Barton of St. Helens, Ore.; one stepdaughter, Julie Russell of Anchorage, Alaska; three stepsons, Gary and David, both of Albany, Ore., and Glenn of Anchorage, Alaska; one brother, Ervin Flickner of Monroe, Wash.; two sisters, Annie Petrick and Katie Buss, both of Monroe; four grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
A graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens in Albany, Ore.
Mrs. Russell and her husband owned the Albany Bowling Lanes before selling it in the mid-1950s and moving to Vancouver. In Vancouver, they operated Lindblad's Riverside Motel. In the mid-1960s they moved back to Albany, Ore., and took over the bowling alley again and operated it until selling it in the 1970s.
She was a member of Knollbrook Christian Reformed Church in Corvallis, Ore., and the Albany Elks and Eagles auxiliaries. Mrs. Russell enjoyed needlework, traveling and was an avid bowler.

Donald F. Shaffer
Kennewick, Wash.
Former Clark County resident Donald F. Shaffer born March 10, 1941, in Condon, Ore.
He attended the College of Idaho at Caldwell, Idaho, and moved to Portland in the1960s. He worked for Union Oil Co. the next 14 years.
After he moved to Vancouver in 1964, Mr. Shaffer began coaching Little League baseball. He moved to Salem, Ore., in 1968 and helped start a baseball program there.
In 1970, he returned to Vancouver and was a member of the Evergreen School District budget committee. He was also president of the Little League and secretary- treasurer of the booster club.
He moved to Kennewick three years ago and was a member of Columbia Community Church in Richland.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, at home; one daughter, Terry Carnine of Condon; three sons, Steven of Condon, and Brian and Mike, both of Kennewick; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Condon Elks Lodge.

Claude T. Shoemaker
Washougal
A lifetime Washougal resident, Claude T. Shoemaker born Dec. 23, 1945, in Bremerton, Wash. He moved to Washougal as a child and graduated from Washougal High School.
He worked at the former Crown Zellerbach paper mill for 11 years and as a machine operator at the old Non-Woven plant in Washougal for 25 years.
Mr. Shoemaker liked fast cars and racing. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed woodworking and cooking.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy, at home; his father, Claude Jennings of Vancouver; two brothers, Dale and Ron, both of Washougal; and one sister, Vikki Buck of Washougal.
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Straub's Funeral Home in Camas. His body was cremated.

Douglas W. Wamberg
Vancouver
A construction foreman, Douglas W. Wamberg, 48, born April 12, 1952, in Tacoma, and lived in the Vancouver area 28 years.
Survivors include his wife, Lynell, at home; his father, Ronald Wamberg of Camas; three daughters, Brooke of Lake Stevens, Wash., Lindsay of Snohomish, Wash., and Chanel of Vancouver; and one sister, Wendy Melson of Washougal.
Mr. Wamberg was an engineer and a member of the Operating Engineers Union, Local 701, for 26 years. He also worked as a foreman at Columbia Rock in Vancouver before retiring because of illness.
A service will be later. Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Amanda E. Warren
Vancouver
A freshman at Hudson's Bay High School, Amanda Elizabeth Warren born Dec. 7, 1985, in Vancouver and lived in Clark County all her life.
She is survived by her parents, Fawn and Jerry Warren, at home; two brothers, Joshua P. and Jeremy L., both of Vancouver; and grandparents, Blanche Krossman of Battle Ground, and Eva and Eunice Warren of Fontana, Calif.
Amanda enjoyed modeling and music.
The casket will be open from 5 to 9 tonight at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel. A funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens died Monday, March 12, 2001, in Vancouver.
Mr. Babb was a long-haul trucker.
He was died in December 2000. A daughter, Janet Babb, also preceded him in died Monday, March 12, 2001, in Vancouver. She was 62.
Miss Birchell was an elementary school teacher for 20 years. She most recently worked for the National Parks Service at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site and the O.O. Howard House.
She enjoyed reading and was interested in history.
Layne's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Ruth K. Brase
Tigard, Ore.
Former Vancouver resident Ruth K. Brase born March 21, 1923, in Iowa. She lived in Vancouver from 1941 to 1965 before moving to Tualatin, Ore.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Vancouver.
She is survived by a sister, Rose Borchers of Vancouver; and a brother, Emil Brase of Hood Canal.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church. The casket will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday at Vancouver Funeral Chapel.
James R. Brink
Vancouver
James Richard Brink, a janitor, born Feb. 10, 1953, in Seattle.
He was raised in Walla Walla and the past 17 years lived in a group home run by Brighton Enterprises in Vancouver.
He is survived by his father, Dick of Walla Walla; and an uncle, Don Kludas of Tigard, Ore.
A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Harmony died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, in Portland. She was 88.
Her husband of 41 years, George, born Nov. 15, 1912, in LaGrange, Ill., and lived in Vancouver since 1996.
Survivors include two sons, Errol of Vancouver and Howard of Raleigh, N.C.; one brother, Merrill Fowler of LaGrange, Ill.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Brown was a department manager at Montgomery Ward for many years, retiring in 1979.
She was a member of the Eastern Star chapter in La Grange. She enjoyed cooking, and her family said she made great pies.
The casket will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Saturday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Clarendon Hill Cemetery in Darien, Ill.
