Luther H. Hill

A retired logger who had worked for the U.S. Forest Service, Luther Harrison Hill, 91, born Feb. 9, 1911, in Bethel, Okla., and had lived in Clark County for 12 years. He served in the European theater with the Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart for an injury he received during his time of service. He was a life time member of the Disabled American Veterans, and enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Doris, at home; one stepdaughter, Leann Linbille of Ridgefield; one stepson, Brian Lawler of Houston, Alaska; 16 grandchildren; numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren; and special companions, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, LeRoy and Mary Ann Watkins of Ridgefield;
A funeral will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Willamette National Cemetery for Carl E. Kankelberg, who born Dec. 27, 1925, in San Bernardino, Calif., and had lived in Vancouver for 50 years. He was retired from Western Propane, where he had worked as a terminal manager for 10 years. He enjoyed gardening and telling stories, and was active at the Luepke Senior Center.
Survivors include his wife, Bettie, at home; one daughter, Linda I. White of Washington; two sons, A. Wayne of Vancouver and R. Dan of Yakima; one sister, Juanita Kankelberg of Yakima; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Richard D. Resinger
Camas
Richard Dwight Resinger, 73, born Oct. 27, 1929, in Armstrong County, Pa. He graduated from Kittanning High School and joined the Army. After serving in the military, he lived in Erie, Penn., from 1955 until 1961, and then briefly in Arizona and California before settling in the Camas area in 1966. He worked for Tidland Corporation and then as a machinist for Nabisco. He retired from Nabisco in 1992.
An avid sports fan, he enjoyed bowling and golfing, and had played semi-pro football in his younger years. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Washougal.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, at home; one son, Dave of Salem, Ore.; two daughters, Beth Raetz of Washougal and Merle Ann Wilson of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Jean Furlong of Newton Falls, Ohio; and five grandchildren.
At his request, the body was cremated. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Straub's Funeral Home in Camas was in charge of arrangements.

Marjorie S. Rhodes

A private graveside service will be Monday at Willamette National died of respiratory failure Friday, January 3, 2002, in Vancouver.
Mrs. Rhodes was died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, in Battle Ground. She was 89.
Mrs. Strief, whose maiden name was Miller, was died in 1978.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Schulte of Battle Ground and Nancy Atterberry of Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister, Beulah "Bee" Buelow of Dubuque, Iowa; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel. Private burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery for Everett John Swanson, 85, who born June 24, 1917, in DeKalb, Ill., and lived in Vancouver for 56 years. He was a retired office clerk who worked for several trucking firms and steamship companies.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of American Legion Smith-Reynolds Post 14, Elks Lodge 823 and Minnehaha Grange 164.
Survivors include one sister, Millie Swanson of DeKalb, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Gerald S. Tolbert

A lifelong jazz fan who also enjoyed sports and had a keen interest in religion, philosophy and current affairs, Gerald S. Tolbert born April 18, 1943, in Vancouver. He graduated from Fort Vancouver High School and attended Clark College and the University of Washington. He worked as a manager at Lake Shore Athletic Club, where he made many friends and touched the lives of many people.
He enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia and participating in fantasy sports leagues. A holiday sports tradition was to attend the Far West Classic basketball tournament with his brother and friends. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of jazz music and had amassed nearly 1, 000 jazz CDs, many of them signed by the artists.
His love of music, quick wit and natural facility with the English language gave him a natural gift for poetry that he wrote throughout his life.
He is survived by a brother, Richard Goode of Vancouver.
There will be no service. Vancouver Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Richard G. Weber
Vancouver
Richard Guy Weber, 64, born Feb. 6, 1938, in Seattle and had lived in Vancouver for 12 years. He was unemployed.
He was fond of animals, children, fishing, concerts in the park and having coffee with friends. He also enjoyed participating in a variety of activities through a program provided by Community Connections and The ARC of Vancouver.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Richard and Jenny Weber of Sandy, Ore.; and one brother, Ronald of Seattle.
A celebration-of-life service will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Rose Besserman Room of the Fisher's Landing Transit Center. Burial will be in Park Hill died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Emanuel Hospital in Portland.
Mrs. Pratt was married and raised two daughters in West Covina, Calif., before moving back to Battle Ground in 1985. She worked as a payroll specialist for Walsh and Sons Trucking, retiring in 1998.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking and watching her children and grandchildren grow into adults.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Marvin E., at home; two daughters, Michele Glem of Beaverton, Ore., and Nedra Fortish of Battle Ground; four sisters, Dorothy Ward of Battle Ground, Jacquie Stevens of Covina, Calif., Norma Potter of Sparks, Nev., and Carole Roberts of New Harmony, Utah; three brothers, Charles Colstadt of Oakridge, Ore., Kenneth Hedges of La Puente, Calif., and Donald Hedges of Snohomish, Wash.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will begin at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel.

Gregory "Greg" J. Bjur, 54, a lifelong resident of Woodland and owner of Woodland Auto Supply and Ridgefield Auto Parts, Cemetery.

Bertha Chapman

A funeral will begin at 12:30 p.m. today at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel for Bertha Chapman, who died in 1990.
Mrs. Chapman was died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at a local care center. She was 81.
Mrs. Svinth was born Jan. 22, 1921, in Tracy, Minn. She moved to Washington in 1946 and to Vancouver about 10 years ago.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Norman, at home; daughters, Marie Svinth of Beaverton, Ore., Audrey Christina of Portland and Thyes Shaub of Juneau, Alaska; two sisters, Thyes Hill of Minneapolis, Minn., and Audrey Shew of Brainerd, Minn.; and four grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service later.
