Former La Center resident Gus Ahseln born June 15, 1923, in La Center and attended elementary and high school there.
He worked as a plumber for Rowland Plumbing and Heating and was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 290 for 60 years.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
A son, Jon, funeral service was held Saturday at St. John's Funeral Home in Portland.
Frank L. Akerill
Vancouver
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and member of the Oregon Air National Guard, Frank Lee Akerill, 85, born Nov. 22, 1916, in Portland and had lived in Clark County for 41 years. He enjoyed singing and beekeeping and was a past president of the Beekeepers Association.
Survivors include his wife, Helen, at home; one daughter, Rebecca Wheeler of Humptulips, Wash.; four step-daughters, Katheryn Christian of Selah, Wash., Christina Horning of Washington, Winona Lowe of Hawaii, and Corinne Akerill of Portland; five sons, David of Portland, Kenneth of La Center, Jerome of Carbondale, Colo., Frank of Goldendale, Wash., and Phillip of Battle Ground; two sisters, Norma Rhoads of Portland and Ruth Hathaway of Lake Stevens, Wash.; 30 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Britta F. Freytag
Vancouver
A homemaker who enjoyed children, playing golf, painting and sewing, Britta "Rita" F. Freytag, 61, born June 26, 1940, in Worcester, Mass., and had lived in Vancouver since 1968.
She volunteered for many community activities and was known as "Mom" to many.
Her son Kurt funeral service will begin at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel.
Private burial will follow.

Richard J. King
Camas
A machinist who worked for Intech and enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, Richard James King, 53, born Jan. 28, 1949, in South Gate, Calif., and had lived in Camas for 18 years. He enjoyed painting motorcycle tanks, welding, fishing, pheasant hunting, computers, participating on eBay and taking care of his children. He enjoyed people and was a friend to all.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki, of Washougal; three daughters, Tabitha Richards, Tina King and Dawn Arthur, all of Washougal; two sons, Travis and Tyler both of Camas; his father, Calvin King of Anaheim, Calif.; one brother, Paul King of Anaheim, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.

William D. Maynard
Battle Ground
Private services were held for William D. Maynard, 69, who born Jan. 12, 1933, in Boone, Iowa, and had lived in Clark County since 1955. He was a disabled veteran who had served in the U.S. Army 101st. Airborne division and the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
An electrical engineer, he had worked for both Boeing and Portco. He enjoyed fishing and bagpipe music.
Survivors include two sisters, Deloris Burwell of Longview and Mayna Campbell of Ridgefield; and one brother, John of Ridgefield.
Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Fred H. Weakley
Camas
Fred H. Weakley, the first port manager for the Port of Camas-Washougal, born Nov. 30, 1913, in Hanna, Alberta, Canada, and moved to Camas as a young boy.
He moved to Mount Vernon, Wash., in 1965, and then to Newport, Ore., in 1970. He served as port manager for both cities.
He retired in 1980, and returned to Camas.
An active member of the community, Mr. Weakley served as a Clark County commissioner from 1952 to 1960. He was named Camas-Washougal citizen of the year in 1995. He was also a former member of Camas Lions and Kiwanis clubs and a member of the Camas/Washougal Chamber of Commerce.
A member of the Orchard Hills Golf Club, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping and playing bridge. He also enjoyed traveling and had visited 57 countries with his wife, Eleanor. He attended Camas United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Toastmasters.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor, at home; one son, Gregg of Vancouver; one daughter, Gail Gregg of Vancouver; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Camas United Methodist Church.

Ruth P. Backer
Woodland
A self-employed artist whose pictures have been displayed in art museums in Portland, Seattle and Spokane, Ruth Pauline Backer, 80, born Jan. 2, 1922, in St. Cloud, Minn. and had lived in Woodland for 43 years. A member of the Portland Art Museum, she was also involved in Woodland civic activities including the PTA, Citizens of Woodland and Cub Scout Pack 531. She also painted logging trucks, including trucks for Ben Thomas and Jeson and Grove.
Survivors include one son, Less of Davidson, N.C., and one brother, Joe Klein of Woodland.
A private service will be held. Woodland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Edna M. Johnson
Prineville, Ore.
Former Clark County resident Edna May Johnson, 95, born Feb. 24, 1907, in Goldendale. Her maiden name was Wintersteine.
She was preceded in Cemetery in Battle Ground. Layne's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Robert G. McFadden
Ridgefield
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and Korea who enjoyed fishing and going out with friends, Robert Gregg McFadden, 76, born Feb. 9, 1926, in Chehalis and had lived in Clark County for 42 years. He worked as a home and rental property builder and was a member of Moose Lodge 1774 and the National DeSoto Club.

Jane W. Osborn
Vancouver
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at East Mill Plain United Methodist Church for Jane Wray Osborn, 80, who born Sept. 28, 1921, in St. Helens, Ore. She lived in the St. Helens-Scappoose area for 38 years before moving to Vancouver in 1978.
She was a member and lay minister at the East Mill Plain United Methodist Church. In 1993 after Hurricane Andrew, she and her husband traveled to Dulac, La., where they spent five weeks helping families in need. She was also honored by Oregon Gov. Tom McCall for coordinating volunteers at McClaren School for Boys.
She enjoyed traveling in her travel trailer, camping, fishing, knitting and painting in pastels.
Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Marvin L., at home; three daughters, Debbie Currie of Hillsboro, Ore., Deanne Bunton of Washington, D.C. and Shari Klarich of Ogden, Utah; two sons, Ron McClellan of Vancouver and Jerry McClellan of John Day, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The body will be cremated. Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
