A member of Lake Shore Community Church and former owner of the Chicken Roost restaurant, Pearl Ailene Jelsma, 98, born May 26, 1904, in Vancouver and lived here her entire life. A homemaker, she was a member of the Oregon Ceramics Association and taught ceramics and china painting for over 35 years.
She was preceded in Cemetery. Vancouver Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

An electrician who enjoyed computers and photography, Paul H. Kuehn, 84, Born Dec. 8, 1917, in New York, Mr. Kuehn lived in Vancouver for 42 years.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Nora, at home; one stepdaughter, Marjorie Franklin of Vancouver; one step-son, Jim Lefever of Woodland; seven step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held for Roy Thomas "Tom" Nelson, who born Nov. 6, 1959, in Vancouver. He worked as a polisher in the eyewear industry.
Survivors include his father, James M. Nelson of Vancouver; one daughter, Gloria Maxine Nelson of Gresham, Ore.; one brother, Mark of Milwaukie, Ore.; several stepbrothers and sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

Beatrice E. Wobermin

A member of Memorial Lutheran Church who enjoyed dogs, reading, gardening and family, Beatrice E. Wobermin, 85, born March 25, 1917, in Sidney, Mont. and lived in Vancouver for 23 years. She had worked as a bookkeeper for Meier & Frank.

Former Vancouver resident, Louise Arvilla Bigler, who retired from Pacific Northwest Bell after 41 years, born Dec. 23, 1917, in Manchester, Kan. She lived in Vancouver from 1965 until moving to Chehalis last year.

Lisa R. Carpenter

A lifelong Clark County resident, Lisa Renee Carpenter, born March 14, 1963, in Vancouver and lived in the county all her life. Her maiden name was Merle.
Survivors include her mother, JoAnn Merle of Vancouver; two sons, Luke Carpenter and Cole Carpenter, both of Vancouver; two sisters, Darby Hunt of Battle Ground and Cindi Nickelson of Vancouver; two brothers, Steve Merle of Hockinson and Daniel Merle of Vancouver; and her special companion, James Leggett of Vancouver.
Mrs. Carpenter attended Columbia River High School. She enjoyed golfing, gardening, camping, fishing and crafts.
A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Vancouver Funeral Chapel. Davies Cremation and Burial Services is in charge of arrangements.

Clara "Dean" Darien, an administrative assistant in the advertising business, born Sept. 23, 1936, in Louisiana and lived in Clark County the past 11/2 years.
Survivors include four sons, Chris White of Vancouver, Mark White of Kinsburg, Calif., Rodney White of Santa Rosa, N.M., and Charles White of Spring, Texas; one sister, Lulafaye Key of Fresno, Calif.; four brothers, Dick Hickman, Bud Hickman and Glen Hickman, all of Fresno, and O.C. Hickman of Grants Pass, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
There will be no service. Her body will be cremated. Davies Cremation and Burial Services is in charge of arrangements.
Deborah A. Hannula
Sumner, Wash.
Former Vancouver resident Deborah A. Hannula born June 16, 1960, in Esterville, Iowa, and raised in Vancouver. Mrs. Hannula graduated from Columbia River High School in 1978. She moved to Sumner about eight years ago.
Survivors include her husband, Mike, at home; her parents, Pat and Dick Butler of Vancouver; one stepdaughter, Susan Stavenau of Boise, Idaho; one stepson, Brandon Hannula of Vancouver; two sisters, Susan Butler of Vancouver and Brenda Holtman of Sumner; and one brother, Brian Butler of Battle Ground.
She loved the outdoors and her yard, which inspired her to make jewelry.
A service will begin at 1 p.m Saturday at Price-Hilton Funeral Chapel in Auburn, Wash.

Oral W. Holcomb

Oral "Bill" William Holcomb born Sept. 8, 1913, in Stewart, Minn. After living in Shelby, Mont., and Medford, Ore., he moved to Vancouver to work as a welder in the shipyards after World War II started. When the war ended, he worked for the Stepco sawmill the next 15 years, and after it closed, he worked for Alcoa, where he retired.
Mr. Holcomb loved outdoor activities, especially fishing, and once was recognized by Field & Stream magazine for a large fish he caught. He also enjoyed square dancing with Jo and socializing with friends in the Merry Rounders Square Dance Club. He was always ready to help his family and friends.
There will be a private service later.
Russell A. Niblock Sr.
Vancouver
A longtime Vancouver resident who was active in senior olympics, Russell A. Niblock Sr., born Nov. 11, 1913, in Scappoose, Ore., and lived in Vancouver the past 54 years.
Survivors include two sons, Russell A. Jr. of Woodland and Thomas F. of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; one stepson, Ted Martin of Salem, Ore.; one brother, James of East Lansing, Mich.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Niblock was a member of the National Rifle Association and an Army veteran of World War II. He enjoyed running, flying, hunting, fishing and was a world-class competitive pistol shooter. He was also a president of the family flying club.
A memorial service will begin at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel.
William M. Riha
Vancouver
William "Bill" M. Riha born Feb. 6, 1926, in Chicago, and lived in Vancouver the past 15 years.
A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he was an eyewitness to the raising of the American flag on Iwo Jima. He received a Purple Heart for wounds received in that campaign.
Mr. Riha was a welder and owned his own business. He was also a partner in a Mack truck dealership.
Mr. Riha enjoyed woodworking, especially making custom cabinets and furniture. He also liked fishing and playing pinochle. Mr. Riha loved music and was known as "the old song peddler" when he played his keyboard at many senior facilities in the area.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Anne, at home; one daughter, Nancy Fradette of Marquette, Mich.; one son, Michael of Coon Rapids, Minn.; and four grandchildren.
There will be a private service.
