Viola M. Davis

A waitress who enjoyed humor, spending time outdoors, camping and cooking for her family, Viola M. Davis, 77, born March 5, 1925, in David City, Neb., and lived in Vancouver for 36 years. Her maiden name was Sands.
Her husband, Nathaniel P., died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at Cascade Care Center in Vancouver. She was 93.
Mrs. Gelentere, a secretary, was death by her husband, David, in 1969, and her daughter, Joyce Chernoy, in 1968.
Survivors include one son, Lloyd of Vancouver; two sisters, Rhita Feldbau and Elaine Schneider, both of New York City; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles. Evergreen Staples Funeral Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.
John E. Hancock
Ridgefield
A funeral will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ridgefield Church of the Nazarene for John E. Hancock, who born April 30, 1947, in Portland and had lived in Clark County for 40 years. He graduated from Ridgefield High School in 1965 and served in the Navy aboard submarines during the Vietnam War.
After the war, he attended Washington State University, graduating in 1976. He went on to earn a master's degree from Lewis and Clark College and then returned to WSU for a degree in administration
He retired this year from the Ridgefield school district, where he worked as a teacher and school administrator for the past 10 years. Before working in Ridgefield, he held similar positions with the La Center and Evergreen school districts. He was a member of the Lions Club and Ducks Unlimited and enjoyed playing golf, duck hunting, reading, Mariners baseball and watching his kids play sports.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Martha, at home; four daughters, Dana Hancock-Rickey of Vancouver and Natalie Hancock, Barbara Hancock and Laura Hancock, all of Ridgefield; his mother, Dorothy Hancock of Vancouver; and two sisters, Sharon Johnson of Brush Prairie and Donna Prucha of Vancouver.
Burial will follow the funeral at 3:30 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Gardens died in a motorcycle accident Thursday, July 11, 2002, in Amboy.
Mr. Lawffer was died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, in Las Vegas. He was 93.
Mr. Sork was died in 1999.
He is survived by one brother, John J. Sork of Vancouver.
A funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vancouver. Burial will follow in St. James Acres died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at home. He was 75.
Mr. Dalton's wife, Wilma, preceded him in born Sept. 7, 1926, in Joplin, Mo.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda C. Dalton of Vancouver; three sons, Robert R., James E. and Clair, all of Vancouver; four sisters, Mary Hunt of Vancouver and Dorothy Buell, Betty Miller and Virginia Hohe, all of Portland; and eight grandchildren.
Mr. Dalton enjoyed sports and loved attending games in which his children and grandchildren participated.
There will be a private service. Davies Cremation and Burial Services is in charge of arrangements.
Selvy DeWeese
Camas
Selvy DeWeese, 91, born July 24, 1910, in Wisconsin. He lived in Camas since the 1930s.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred "Millie, " at home; one daughter, Janet Ackerman of Camarilla, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Presbyterian Church. Private burial will be in Camas died Saturday, July 13, 2002, in Vancouver. He was 77.
Mr. Martin, a mechanical draftsman for many years and a chip tester at the Crown Zellerbach paper mill in Camas, retired in 1989.
He was Cemetery in Ridgefield.
The casket will be open from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Layne's Funeral Home in Battle Ground.

Donald D. Tangen
Woodland
A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Nazarene in Woodland for Donald Dean Tangen, who born Nov. 26, 1929, in Woodland and lived there all his life.
He worked for Ben Thomas and also was a log truck driver for many years.
Mr. Tangen, a Navy veteran, loved fishing, hunting, clam digging and snowmobiling.
He was a five-time national champion for flat bottom unblown boat racing.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia, at home; four daughters, Karen L. Rygg and Sharon R. Huffman, both of Vancouver, and Teresa L. Shill and Gena D. Wheatley, both of Woodland; four sons, Donald D. Tangen Jr., Randall A. Shill, Danial W. Shill and Tracy D. Tangen, all of Woodland; two brothers, Eugene of Woodland and Leland of Battle Ground; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Private burial will be in Frank Abel Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

David D. Nichols
Vancouver
David D. Nichols, a journeyman press operator for Portco in Vancouver, committed suicide at home Thursday, July 11, 2002. He was 50.
Mr. Nichols was born Feb. 27, 1952, in Vancouver. He lived in Vancouver again the past four years.
Survivors include his wife, Hollie, at home; his mother, Ann Nichols of Portland; one daughter, Jessica Nichols of Vancouver; two sons, Ryan of Spanaway and Caleb of Vancouver; two sisters, Nikki Collar of Estacada, Ore., and Debbie Verbout of Vancouver; two brothers, Ron of Portland and Kerry of Vancouver; and one grandchild.
Mr. Nichols enjoyed water skiing, four-wheeling, camping and the Mariners.
There will be private service. Davies Cremation and Burial Services is in charge of arrangements.
