Henry S. Olsen
Punta Gorda Isles, Fla.
Former Clark County resident and Navy veteran Henry "Hank" Schmidt Olsen born Nov. 2, 1912, in Bradgate, Iowa. He lived in Punta Gorda Isles for the past 27 years.
Mr. Olsen, who worked in the aluminum industry for 33 years, worked for Alcoa in Vancouver from the 1940s for about 15 years. He retired in 1975.
Mr. Olsen was president of the Aluminum Workers International Union for eight years.
He was a licensed boat captain, an avid fisherman and crabber and a member of the Isles Yacht Club and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Rosalie "Boots, " at home; one son, Larry D. of Estero, Fla.; three daughters, Shirley Bauer of Palm Desert, Calif., Joan E. Reno of Kansas City, Mo., and Janice M. Jidas of Forest Grove, Ore.; one stepdaughter, Beverly Beck of Overland Park, Kan.; three sisters, Fern Anderson and Isabelle Benjamin, both of Humboldt, Iowa, and Janet Bishey of Fort Dodge, Iowa; two brothers, Elmer of Vancouver and Gene of Davenport, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in died of cancer Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at home. He was 67.
His first wife, Shirley, born Feb. 12, 1935, in Portland. He lived in Vancouver since February.
Survivors include one daughter, Sherrie Reed of Gresham, Ore.; one stepdaughter, Tina Christian of Vancouver; two sons, Deen Palmer of Corbett, Ore., and Tadge of Beaverton; one stepson, Jerry Thompson of Portland; two brothers, William and Perry, both of Portland; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Skyline Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Portland.

Elna M. Perrin
Battle Ground
Elna Margreta Perrin, 87, born Dec. 16, 1914, in Kulm, N.D., and moved to Vancouver from Alberta, Canada, in 1994. Her maiden name was Erickson.
She owned and operated care facilities in the Vancouver area from 1965 until she retired in 1990. Mrs. Perrin also had worked as a nursing aide.
Her husband, Norman, died in 1977.
Survivors include one daughter, Louise Soderquist of Canada; three sons, Merle and Larry, both of Vancouver, and Wayne of Battle Ground; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Perrin was a member of Pekin Ferry Grange. She enjoyed gardening and traveling in her car.
A funeral will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel. Burial will begin at Evergreen Memorial Gardens died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, in an Astoria hospital following a swimming accident near Seaside, Ore. He was 47.

Donald H. Sutter
Vancouver
A funeral will begin at 3 p.m. today at Vancouver Funeral Chapel for Donald Harry Sutter, who born Jan. 10, 1911, in Central City, Neb. He lived in Clark County for 80 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Donna Anderson of Pasco, Wash., Elaine Sutter of Vancouver and Kim Sutter of Pacifica, Calif.; one son, Greg of Kent, Wash.; one sister, Edna Finnell of Fairfield, Calif.; one brother, Herschel Sutter of Grants Pass, Ore.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Mr. Sutter was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church, Vancouver Elks Lodge 823, Afifi Shrine Temple of Tacoma and the Electrical Workers Union. He was a member and past master of Mount Hood Masonic Lodge 32.
Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery for William Lee Deal, who born Sept. 21, 1910, in Aurora N.C. A resident of Vancouver since 1954, Mr. Deal served as a pilot and officer in the Navy for 31 years, before retiring in 1976. He then worked as an electrician in construction. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor, a member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church and IBEW Local 48. He rode cross-country in the Bicycle Centennial at 65. He took cutter horse lessons at 79 and rode horses until he was 86. He was an avid skier and reader. He will be remembered as a man devoted to his family.
Mr. Deal was preceded in died of cancer Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in Woodburn, Ore. She was 84.
Mrs. Derr was death by her husband of 57 years, Lewis W., in 1992. Survivors include her son, Gary W. of Canby, Ore.; sister, Glee Knotts of Mesa, Ariz.; numerous nieces and nephews; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
A private burial will be held at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, Calif. Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Emter
Battle Ground
A funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Battle Ground, followed by a committal in St. James died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in Vancouver. She was 93.
Mrs. Emter was death by her husband, Adam in 1965; and her son, Ernest. Survivors include three daughters, Florence Veintenheimer of Battle Ground, Gloria Schutt of Ridgefield and Geraldine Schutt of La Center; seven sons, James and Al of Ridgefield, Walter and Art of Vancouver, David of Eatonville, Charles of Woodland, and Roger of Jamestown, N.D.; three sisters, Arlene Holmack of Longview and Agnes Ketola and Regina Studer, both of Vancouver; one brother, Clarence Herz of Brush Prairie; 29 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Diane J. Juedes
Wellton, Ariz.
A former 30-year resident of Washougal, Diane Jeannette Juedes, born Oct. 27, 1938, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was a member of Grace Fellowship Church in Wellton, where she was a part of the Praise Team and was the Sunday school superintendent. She was an avid dollmaker and taught classes. Her maiden name was Peterson.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer, at home; two daughters, Jeannie Homes of Washougal, and Julie Jackson of Asotin; a son, Donald Taylor of Washougal; a stepson, Kirk of Lincoln, Neb.; a stepdaughter, Sandra Roll of Vancouver; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
No service will be held.
Disposition is by cremation. San Juan Mortuary in Blanding, Utah, is in charge of arrangements.

Hank Stack
Portland
A memorial service will begin at 4 p.m. today in the Lloyd Auditorium at the Washington School for the Deaf, 611 Grand Blvd. in Vancouver, for former 30-year Vancouver resident Hank Stack, who born Aug. 18, 1917, in Elmont, Mo. He was a graduate of Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. In 1971, he began Sign 8 News for KGW-TV and signed to audiences for more than 30 years. Mr. Stack founded the Northwest Theater of the Deaf, and was a deaf and gay rights activist for many years. He was a sign-language teacher at Portland Community College and later became a certified public accountant, moving to Vancouver when the company he worked for was acquired by Mayflower Dairy in 1966.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marianne Magee-Stack, in 1980. Survivors include three daughters, Sherry of Portland, Holly of Vancouver and Kelly of Los Angeles; one sister, Peggy Randall of Vancouver; two brothers, Archie and Ernie, both of Vancouver; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
