Farris Martin

A memorial service will begin at 12:30 p.m. today at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel for Farris "Tex" Martin, who born Feb. 23, 1931, in Lorenzo, Texas. He lived in Vancouver from 1953 to 1973 and returned in 1997.
He was a building contractor for the Red Lion Corp. After retiring in 1976, he remodeled and built several churches.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mae E. Martin, at home; two sons, Wayne A. of Sherwood, Ore., and Richard J. of Ridgefield; two sisters, Jauneice McDuff of Mangum, Okla, and Clarenceine Lesikar of Edna, Texas.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Martin was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He liked traveling, fishing, hunting and flying.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, in Tigard.
She was 78.
Mrs. Zielke, a homemaker, was death by her husband, Robert H., in 1996.
Survivors include her mother, Doris Kilkelly of Portland; three daughters, Rose Calvin of Vancouver, Mary Burris of Wishram, Wash., and Leonita Boggess of Dallesport, Wash.; six sons, Joe Speelman of Lincoln City, Ore., John Zielke of The Dalles, Ore., Walter Zielke and Frank Zielke, both of Wishram, Mike Zielke of Monterey, Calif., and Lynn Zielke of Oregon City; eight grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed reading and sewing.
A graveside service will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Willamette National died of cancer Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at his home in Vancouver.
Mr. Broersma was Cemetery, friends and family are invited to the chapel's hospitality room for refreshments and then to an open house until 8 p.m. at Jo's Roundup restaurant in Washougal.

Ernest A. Campbell
Medford, Ore.
Former Clark County resident Ernest A. "Bud" Campbell born into a pioneering Clark County family on March 24, 1917, in Vancouver. He attended school in Vancouver and died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, in Vancouver. He was 88.
Mr. Scott was death by his second wife, Karen, on Oct. 4, 2000.
Survivors include three daughters, Edalyn Kenkers and Wendy Scott, both of Vancouver, and Willo Huard of Silverdale; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
At his request, there will be no service. Burial will be in Mapleton, Ore. Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Leon W. Shupe
Vancouver
Leon William Shupe, 79, born Jan. 24, 1924, in Bend, Ore.
He enlisted in the Marine Corps at 19 and served as a tank commander in the 3rd Tank Battalion, 3rd Division during World War II. He saw duty in Guam, the Marshall Islands, New Caledonia, Guadalcanal and was involved in the battle of Iwo Jima.
After the war he went to work for Crown Zellerbach Paper and retired after 30 years. He was a member of Teamsters Local 162 and received an award from the National Safety Council for having driven more than 2 million miles without an accident.
He enjoyed golf and was a member of the American Legion, the Elks RV Club and the N.W. Tankers.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Margaret, at home; four daughters, Lynn Reid of Sisters, Ore., Leslie Osier and Roxie Kemler, both of Vancouver, and Beth Mura of Prairie Village, Kan.; two sons, Larry A. of Vancouver and Lance W. of New Orleans; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Inurnment with full military honors will follow in Willamette National died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at a local care center. He was 72.

Donald S. Smith

Former Vancouver resident Donald Simon Smith born July 5, 1947, in Tacoma and lived there almost his entire life except for 1984-1985, when he lived in Vancouver.
He worked as a general handyman and also for a janitorial service. In the summers, he enjoyed working and volunteering at the Washougal Bible Camp.
Survivors include one daughter, Katie Smith of Spanaway; and five sisters, Waneta Dillon of Vancouver, Louise Hoffmand of Kelso, Beth Mackley of California, Mildred Pope of Colorado and Alberta (last name and residence unavailable).

Rita E. Schlecht
Vancouver
A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church who enjoyed travel and reading, Rita Elizabeth Schlecht born June 17, 1923, in Easton, Kan. A Vancouver resident for 41 years, she was a graduate of St. Joseph School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse at both the old and new St. Joseph hospitals.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Joseph J., at home; three daughters, Susan L. Wood and Cinthia L. Ginnett, both of Brush Prairie, and Barbara Richards of Junction City, Ore.; three sons, Joseph M. of Vancouver, Craig A. of Trabuco Canyon, Calif., and John P. of Yacolt; two sisters, Inez A. Huber of Milwaukie, Ore., and Celi Ruscitti of Portland; three brothers, Charles F. Noll of Forest Grove, Ore., William K. Noll of Hillsboro and Thomas Noll of Pacific City, Ore.; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Recitation of the rosary will begin at 6 p.m. Monday and a funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, both at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Hamilton-Mylan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edward D. Sparks

The owner and operator of a packing and shipping company who had an extensive background in antiques and art, Edward DuBois Sparks III born Sept. 30, 1955, in New Castle, Del. As a contemporary artist, he sold paintings throughout California and Florida.
He relocated to Vancouver from Las Vegas in 1999 and opened Pro Pack and Ship, Inc., a company that specialized in small shipments of household goods, electronics, fine art and antiques.
Survivors include his wife Arlene, at home; one sister, Frances Glenn of Copperhill, Va.; and two brothers, Steve of Irvine, Calif. and Andrew of New Castle, Del.
The body was cremated. A celebration of life will be held later. Evergreen Staples Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
