Lois Wilma Reed, a homemaker who lived in Battle Ground the past 20 years, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, in Vancouver. She was 86. Mrs. Reed was born Feb. 25, 1916, in Newton, Kansas. Her maiden name was Ritter. Her husband of 58 years, Arthur H., died in 1997. Survivors include one daughter, Mary A. Paul of Amboy; one son, Ted of Folsom, Calif.; one sister, Ruby Chenard of Fullerton, Calif.; one brother, Robert Ritter of Laughlin, Nev.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Reed was a member of Disciples of Christ Church in California. She enjoyed reading. A funeral will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, followed by burial in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The casket will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
William J. Snyder

William James Snyder, an aerospace engineer who worked for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, in Battle Ground of pancreatic cancer. He was 60. His son, James W., died in 1998. Mr. Snyder was born May 4, 1942, in Wheeling, W.V. He moved to Clark County, five years ago after he retired. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Wanda, at home; one daughter, Karen Abarr of Battle Ground; two sisters, Susan Rine and Debra Miller, both of Florida; and one grandson. Mr. Snyder graduated from West Virginia University in 1965. He was a member of the American Helicopter Society for many years and was instrumental in forming the Northwest Chapter in Washington and Oregon. Mr. Snyder, who liked golfing, had been treasurer of Green Mountain Golf Club for the past two years. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Columbia Presbyterian Church. Doris L. Welker, who lived in Vancouver 25 years, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, in Vancouver. She was 84. Mrs. Welker was born March 7, 1918, in Fenn, Idaho. Her maiden name was Bowman. Survivors include one daughter, Linda Dunn of Vancouver; one son, David of Woodland; two sisters, Fern Manning of Sequim, and Joyce Oleson of Port Angeles; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Welker worked as a registered nurse for 35 years. She was a member of Columbia Christian Church and enjoyed gardening, especially growing roses. A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Hedwig R. Brown, a homemaker who lived in Vancouver the past year, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, in a local care center. She was 83. Mrs. Brown was born Jan. 3, 1919, in Pueblo, Colo. Her husband, Howard, died in 1999. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Taylor of Camas, and Frances K. Rickner of Aurora, Calif.; one son, Howard of Portland; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brown was a Catholic and enjoyed playing bridge, baking and traveling. She was president of Iris Better Homes and Garden Club for three years. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Little Flower Catholic Church in Burley, Idaho. Julia A. Hamreus, who lived in Camas the past month, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, in Camas. She was 76. Her husband, Robert G., died in 1996. She was born April 27, 1926, in New York City. Her maiden name was Goemans. Survivors include one daughter, Linda Colville of Klamath Falls, Ore.; one son, Roger of Camas; two sisters, Alice Amon of Littleton, Colo., and Lucille Ricks of Arizona; one brother, Bob Goemans of Colorado; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hamreus, a homemaker, enjoyed knitting, making teddy bears and taking walks on the beach. She loved her black Labrador retrievers, Shadow and Kojak. A celebration of life service will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30 in Ocean Park. Brown's Funeral Home in Camas is in charge of arrangements. A homemaker who also worked as a machine operator in production work and as a sales person for the Minnesota Woolen Clothing Co., Darlene Ruth Marshall, 71, died Nov. 14, 2002, in Vancouver. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today at Hamilton-Mylan Funeral Home. Born Nov. 30, 1930, in Pleasant, Iowa, Mrs. Marshall's maiden name was also Marshall. She lived in Vancouver, for 61 years and when younger was active in the Fruit Valley Parent Teacher Association, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed gardening, especially flowers and roses, houseplants, sewing and re-covering furniture. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Eugene H., at home; one daughter, Cheryl Fritzner; five sons, Eugene Jr. of Kelso, David R. of Washougal, Rodney L. of Cougar, Gregory A. of Vancouver, and Danny W. of Seattle; one sister, Pat Price of Camas; one brother, Mervin Marshall of Vancouver; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. There will be a private service for Elizabeth M. McLellan, who died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, in Vancouver. She was 78. Mrs. McLellan, a licensed nurse, lived in Vancouver, 32 years. She was born Dec. 11, 1923, in Fort Eustis, Va. Her maiden name was Cawthon. Her husband, William E., died in 1989, and a daughter, Elizabeth Randall, and a son, Michael Economides, also preceded her in death. Survivors include three daughters, Yvonne Smith, Patricia Economides and Mary Harris, all of Vancouver; one son, John Economides of Vancouver; two brothers, James Cawthon and Harry Cawthon of Virginia; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Mrs. McLellan was a member of St. James Catholic Church. She loved animals and enjoyed swimming, bowling, cooking and canning. There will be a private service. Magnold J. Mork died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2002, in Vancouver. She was 94. A service will begin at 1 p.m. today at Killingsworth Little Chapel of the Chimes in Portland. Mrs. Mork was born July 19, 1908, in Fargo, N.D. Her maiden name was Albrightson. Her husband, Larry, died in 1989. Survivors include three daughters, Ramona Merritt of Portland, Yvonne Petit of Vancouver and Iona Buckley of Centralia; one son, Larry of Rio Vista, Calif.; two sisters, Mabel "Mitzie" Parr of Georgetown, Ind., and Ella Eicher of Louisville, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Mork was active in church activities and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of a donor's choice.

Robert Jay Pickering, an Army veteran of the Korean War, died at home Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002. He was 73. Mr. Pickering loved hunting, fishing and racing jalopies with his sons at Portland Speedway. He was born Nov. 10, 1929, in Twin Falls, Idaho. He lived in Vancouver for 40 years. He was a long-haul truck driver. His wife of 44 years, Robbie J., died Oct. 1. Survivors include two daughters, Yvonne West of Ione, Wash., and Pinky Holbert of Bridgeport, Wash.; two sons, Ken and Roger, both of Vancouver; two sisters, Darllea Ziegler of Vancouver and Iris Blevins of Garland, Texas; one brother, Jerry of Riverside, Calif.; and three grandchildren. The casket will be open 5 to 9 p.m. today at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Charles "Todd" Edgar Williams died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, in a local care center. He was 77. Mr. Williams was born June 22, 1925, in Delaware, Ohio. He lived in Vancouver, about 50 years. His wife, Nora L., died in 1987, and his wife, Carrie, died in April. A Navy veteran of World War II, he retired from the Nicolai Door Co. in 1987. He was a member of the Timber Operators Union 1746. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Williams of Kirkland and Linda Talbert of Vancouver; one son, James "Jim" of Vancouver; two sisters, Glenna Sifrit of Jamul, Calif., and Phyllis Kaup of New Carlile, Ohio; two brothers, Emmet "Gene" of Hillsboro, Ohio, and David of Springfield, Ohio; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A service will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday at Assembly of God Church. Vancouver Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
