William C. Phillips

A former Portland resident who had lived in Clark County for eight months, William C. Phillips, 54, born Jan. 3, 1949, in Portland. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and worked as a lead man for a paper company. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and water sports.
Survivors include two sons, Chris of Vancouver and Shaun of Portland; one sister, Jennifer Stewart of Portland; and two brothers, Douglas of Redmond, Ore., and Varnel Jr. of Portland.
A private family service will be held. Davies Cremation and Burial Service is in charge of arrangements.

Betsy A. Gilland
Vancouver
Betsy Ann Gilland born June 15, 1961, in St. Helens, Ore. She lived in Vancouver for a short time in the late 1970s and returned 10 years ago. She lived in Portland from 1988 to 1993.
Mrs. Gilland worked for Freightliner from 1979 to 2002.
Survivors include one daughter, Jessica Gilland of Ocean City, Md.; one son, Chad of Vancouver; her mother, Rita Stilson of Vancouver; her father and stepmother, Hal and Barbara Stilson of Gig Harbor; one sister, Susan Blevins of Mount Sterling, Ky.; one stepsister, Lynne Vea of Maple Valley; two brothers, Mack Stilson of Tualatin, Ore., and Steven Stilson of Canby, Ore.; and two stepbrothers, Clark Westmoreland of Shoreline and Mark Westmoreland of Seattle.
A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lincoln Memorial Chapel in Portland.
Karol A. Norris
Vancouver
Karol Ann Norris born Oct. 30, 1945, in Portland. She lived in Vancouver the past 15 years.
She worked for Red Lion hotels and DoubleTree properties for 20 years and from 1998 to 2002 was director of sales at Four Points Sheraton.
Mrs. Norris also taught marketing classes at Portland Community College.
She loved animals and traveling.
Survivors include one daughter, Kim Wolfer of Vancouver; two stepdaughters, Darlene Pacino of St. Louis and Sandy Scherzinger of Washington; one stepson, Michael Norris of Texas; her parents, Mary A. and Frank Tracy of Portland; one brother, Jeff Bowes of Washington; one sister, Vickie Bodell of Portland; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Vancouver Funeral Chapel. Davies Cremation and Burial Services is in charge of arrangements.

Dolores M. O'Brien
Brush Prairie
A graveside service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church died Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, in Vancouver. She was 94.
Mrs. O'Brien was died in 1966. A daughter, Patricia O'Brien, died at home Monday, Nov. 10, 2003. She was 89.
Mrs. Pleny was died in 1986.
Survivors include one son, Richard of Vancouver; one brother, Melvin Cohnen of Houston; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The casket will be open from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel. Burial will be private at Evergreen Memorial Gardens died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at Southwest Washington Medical Center.
She was 34.
She was died Oct. 12 in a Gresham, Ore., care center.
There will be an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at his home, 13320 S.E. McGillivray Blvd.

Dennis F. Wirtanen

Dennis F. Wirtanen, who owned Exact Printing in Hazel Dell, born June 23, 1942, in Wallace, Idaho, and lived in Clark County the past 24 years.
Mr. Wirtanen, who was retired from the Army, enjoyed golf, scuba diving, collecting cars and travel.
His wife, Stella, Cemetery in Mill City, Ore.
The casket will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.

A service will begin at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel for Elsie Zwaagstra, who born June 5, 1918, in Springfield, S.D.
Mrs. Zwaagstra enjoyed oil painting. She was a member of New Heights Church.

Robert M. Ake
Vancouver
Robert M. Ake, a salesman for S & H Green Stamp Co. in Portland for 22 years, died in 1991.
He was born Jan. 19, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He lived in the Portland area from 1950 until 1999, when he moved to Vancouver.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce L., at home; two sons, Robert A. of Keizer, Ore., and Philip H. of Portland; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
There will be no service. Portland Memorial was in charge of arrangements.
