Austin E. Sheffield

Austin Ewald Sheffield, 80, born Jan. 16, 1924, in Linton, N.D., and lived in Vancouver since 1976. He served in the South Pacific with the Navy during World War II, and then with the Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Army Corps of Engineers.
A member of Club Green Meadows and the YMCA, he enjoyed fishing, golf, billiards, bowling and cooking for his family.
Survivors include his wife Peggy, at home; three sons, Timothy and Stephen, both of Vancouver, and Jeffrey of Spokane; three daughters, Mary Popham of Spokane, Janet Moore of Vancouver and Susan Sheffield of Portland; one sister, Ester Maisch of South Dakota; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A vigil service will begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Anna Hannah Brown, who came to Vancouver in 1943 to work in the shipyards, born Oct. 14, 1905, in Fredericktown, Mo. She enjoyed dancing and cooking.
She was preceded in Cemetery.
James D. Brown Jr.
Battle Ground
James David Brown Jr., a former Clark County sheriff's deputy, born Dec. 19, 1918, in Zwolle, La.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1939 to 1960, including service in World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mildred, at home; two sons, Larry of McMinnville, Ore., and Jim of Battle Ground; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Memory Memorial Park. Layne's Funeral Home in Battle Ground is in charge of arrangements.

James C. Hammill

James C. Hammill, 53, born Jan. 10, 1951, in Davenport.
He retired after working 20 years for Crown Cork and Seal Co. in Portland.
He had been involved with 4-H, and was a Little League coach and a volunteer firefighter for District 9 in Camas.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia, at home; one daughter, Jennifer Hope of Camas; one son, Joseph J. of Seattle; his mother, Marie Allen of Davenport; one brother, Phillip T. Jr. of Davenport; one sister, Janet Sabel of Davenport; and one granddaughter.
A funeral Mass was Wednesday in Davenport. A graveside service will begin at 10 a.m. today at Fern Prairie died of cancer Saturday, July 17, 2004, at her home in Vancouver.
Mrs. Hays was death in 1998.
Survivors include two sons, Randall of Vancouver and Jeffrey of Seattle; one daughter, Linda Cawley of Vancouver; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at the clubhouse at Fairway Village.

Ruth Esther Johnson, 92, born Dec. 18, 1911. She was a homemaker who had worked in canneries, as a caregiver and as a custodian.
Her husband, Abraham L., preceded her in Cemetery. Layne's Funeral Home in Battle Ground is in charge of arrangements.

Mancy Elaine Schoening, a homemaker, doll collector and traveler, born March 30, 1931, in Little Falls, Minn. Her maiden name was Brousseau.
Survivors include her husband, Jack R. Schoening, at home; one daughter, Kate Brooks of Baker City, Ore.; two sons, Joach and Randall of Eugene, Ore.; one sister, Claudia Brousseau of Redding, Calif.; three brothers, Peter Brousseau and Paul Brousseau, both of Redding, and David Brousseau of Cottonwood, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. today at Hamilton-Mylan Funeral Home.

He was a machinist for Freightliner.

Mathilda Natalia Kment Frank, a Vancouver resident for 50 years, died in 1965, and her second husband, Leroy Frank, death, in 1988.
Mrs. Frank was died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, in Washougal.
Mr. Fullbright was died June 2, 2004.
