Perry Eugene VOGUS
Born April 28, 1918 in Mitchell, South Dakota and passed away on November 8, 2001 in Seattle, Washington. For the past several years he has resided at the Kenny Home in West Seattle. He is a longtime member of IBEW Local #46 and a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints - Seattle Second and Sixth Wards. Perry is preceded in death by his wife Maxine Vogus who passed away in 1996. Survived by his two nephews, Kent L. Kilstrom and his wife Cathy and Brian D. Kilstrom and his wife RaeDell; 12 great nieces and nephews and 14 great great nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, November 12, 2001 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 9500 Myers Way S., Seattle, WA 98168. Tom WEINBEL
Age 43, son of Ken and Noelle Weinbel of West Seattle, passed away on October 25 while visiting family in Seattle. He died peacefully in his sleep. For the past sixteen years, Tom was a resident of Wailuku, Maui and employed by Dollar Rent-a-Car. Tom was born in Bethpage, New York, attended grade school in Waterville, Maine, high school in Hanover, New Hampshire and graduated from New England College, Henniker, New Hampshire. Tom moved to Maui in 1985, while employed by Rekortan Sports Corporation, Seattle, for the construction of the Wailuku War Memorial Stadium track and field facility. Tom was also a Rekortan installation technician for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics Stadium track facility. Tom is survived by his parents, wife Eileen, step daughter Tiare, granddaughter Teihani, two brothers: Skip Weinbel, Ketchum, Idaho and George Weinbel, Oviedo, Florida, step-sister, Stacy Fann of West Seattle and step-brother, Todd Williams of Bellingham. Tom was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother who will be missed by his family and all who knew him. Memorial Service and Burial were held Thursday, November 1, at St. John's Episcopal Church, Keokea (Kula), Hawaii). Howden-Kennedy Funeral Home in Seattle assisted with the arrangements. Virginia WEISS
Virginia Weiss passed away November 12, 2001 at Josephine Sunset Home in Stanwood, WA. She was born February 25, 1905 in Mt. Vernon, WA. She was the youngest of three girls and six brothers. She married
Herbert E. Weiss in 1941 and they shared a wonderful life until his death in 1978. Herb was in the men's clothing business and did a lot of traveling, and Virginia always went with him. While he worked, she loved finding antiques in the out of town shops. She enjoyed like and loved to tell or hear a good joke. She is survived by her niece, Beverly Howlett and her husband Robert of Camano Island; five grand nieces and nephews; and twelve great-grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by all of brothers and sisters. A Memorial Graveside Service will be held Saturday, November 17, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Floral Hills cemetery, Lynnwood, WA. Laura Lois WEST, 94, passed away November 12, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husbands Edward Durand, Sr. and William West, Sr.; son Edward West, Sr.; daughters Genevieve Rhine and Barbara Peterson. She leaves behind son William West, Jr. and wife Patricia; daughters Louella Heffelfinger, Jackie Brazier and husband Rog er, Lois Mezek and companion Bud McGrath; 26 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, 72 great-great-grandchildren and 9 great-great- great-grandchildren. Age 87, passed away on November 14, 2001 at Parkway Nursing Center in Snohomish, WA. Doris was born May 28, 1914 in Everett, WA. Doris was preceded in death in 1991 by her husband Melvin E. Whitlinger, Sr. She leaves behind two sons, Mel and Wes; two daughters-in-law Esther & Verna; one sister Harriet Powers; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. On Saturday, November 10, 2001, Janele Marie Whittington peacefully passed onto a greater place while being surrounded by family. She brought joy and laughter into our lives. Dick passed away in Seattle on November 8, 2001, from complications related to cancer. He will be greatly missed by his family; his wife of 43 years, Joan; his sons Doug and Jon, and daughters-in-law Julie and Kim; his daughter Julie and son-in-law Jeff; his grandsons Austin and Joel; his brother Lou and sister-in-law Joyce; and his favorite grand-dogs. Josephine B. WILCOX
passed away on October 30th at the age of 86. Josephine was born on December 3, 1914 in Pull man, Washington to Alfhild (Nordby) and Carl Brewster. She attended Washington State University and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. While there she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. It was also at WSU that she met her future husband Donald. Josephine was a kind, generous, creative, ad venturous and courageous person who loved to travel, sew and do needlework. She was predeceased by her husband Donald and brother Carl Brewster. Surviving are her daughter Nancy Anderson and son-in-law Jeff, of Seattle; brother Milton F. Brewster of Bellevue; sister-in-law Maxine W. Turner; and many nephews and nieces. Leonard R. "Leo" WREN
Born June 22, 1922 in Great Falls, Montana, passed away at his Shoreline home November 10, 2001. Leo is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jean, son Joe (Molly), granddaughter Jennifer, brother Nick of Phoenix, Arizona, sister Margaret of Flint, Michigan, his sister-in-law Helen Gervais of Cascade, Montana and several nieces and nephews. Leo was a larger-than-life man who loved God and his family very much. He was a devoted handball player who, by his own admission, "never lost a game." The absolute light of his life was his granddaughter to whom he gave credit for extending his life, and with whom he could be a child again. Pop's quirky sense of humor, rhymes and nonsense words will be hugely missed. He joins his nine other brothers and sisters in Heaven and becomes for us a shining star. We love you, Pop. After a year-long struggle with cancer, she died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Seattle and graduated from Lincoln High School with many friendships that remained throughout her life. She is survived by five children: Cheri Wright, Michael McClure, Tracy (and David) McLaughlin, Tim and Grant (and Gina) Wright, 14 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and loving companion Bud Hays. Strong willed until the end, she never lost her sense of humor. Our thanks to all the special people who helped with Mom's care. Jan ZABEL
Jan Zabel was born June 18, 1961 in Atchinson, Kansas to Albert and Helen Zabel. Jan passed away on Friday, November 2, 2001 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was a graduate of Benedictine College with a B.A. in music. As his life's work he was an opera singer and actor, and worked in many theaters in Seattle. He has touched many people writing and publishing a book based on advanced methods he developed and applied to teaching individuals how to read music. He was also known throughout King County for showing love and patience to children as he taught them to read music and play the piano. His passion for music drove him to his life's goal of wanting everyone to be able to read music and express themselves through musical talents. Brothers Herman, Jerry and Dale; sisters Jesse and Carol; mother Helen; and many nieces and nephews survive Jan. Services will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in West Seattle.
