John Patrick COOK
Born February 3, 1934, in Wolf Point, Montana; died November 22, 2001, surrounded by those he loved. Pat moved to Seattle in 1940. He attended Bryant Elementary and Seattle Prep. He graduated from the U. W. Law School in 1958. Pat was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army in 1956 and retired from the reserves as a full Colonel. Pat practiced law for 45 years, starting out as a sole practitioner. He was a senior partner at Lee, Smart, Cook, Martin and Patterson when he retired in 2000. Pat tried more cases than he could remember and is listed in the "Best Lawyers in America." His honesty and fairness is known throughout the legal community. He loved the battle of trial and sharing his wisdom by mentoring young lawyers and lecturing at legal seminars. Pat lived in Magnolia and was a member of Our Lady of Fatima parish for nearly 40 years. He rarely missed a Husky game, loved traveling and treasured his time with his family at his summer home on Lake Goodwin. He is survived by Dorothy, his best friend and wife of 45 years, daughters Kathleen (Mark Taylor), Colleen (Rob Bartlett), Mary Beth (Richard Lee); sons Michael (Ann), and Stephan (Kathleen) and twelve beloved grand-children; Eva, Rose, Jessica, Heidi, Derek, Erica, Bridget, Connor, Carolyn, James, Cahalan, Aidan and Claire. Recitation of the Rosary will be Tuesday, November 27th, at 7 p.m. and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, November 28th, at 1 p.m. BOTH at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 3218 - W. Eric DARLING
Born in Edmonds, WA, October 2, 1965, passed away at Virginia Mason Hospital on Nov. 17, 2001 due to heart failure at the tender age of 36. He is survived by his loving friend Eddie, his mother Mona Digiovanni, sister Teri, brothers Gary and Curt, as well as many friends in Seattle and Los Angeles. He was known for his charm, humor, and generosity. Eric was an exceptional designer of fine interiors and furniture, his sense of style was an inspiration to many. His creations will forever be with us, as will his spirit in the hearts of those he touched. We love you always Eric, and we will miss you. Mary E. DARLING
Mary E. DARLING, 88, born in Spokane WA. December 11, 1912, passed away November 20, 2001. Her parents were Clarence and Lucy Hively. Mary moved to Seattle in 1932 after her marriage to Edwin C. Darling, Who passed away in 1980. Mary is survived by her daughters Marilyn Kunz (and husband Mike) of Seattle and Mary Lloyd (and husband Ronald) of Sequim, WA. Grand children Terrie Kunz of Lynnwood and Timothy Kunz with his family Lorraine Diaz and children Briana and William of Seattle. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was a longtime member of Magnolia Presbyterian Church. She loved her home, family, and her many friends at church. Private interment will be at Acacia Memorial Park, Garden Court. Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday Nov. 28th at 2 p.m. at Magnolia Presbyterian Church, 3051 - 28th W. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Swedish Hospital Hospice Program, Magnolia Presbyterian Memorial Fund (elevator fund) or the charity of your choice. We'll miss you Mom.
Donald A. DAWSON
Age 71, passed away November 20, 2001. He leaves behind numerous friends and family who loved him dearly for his one-of-a-kind blend of wisdom and wit, integrity and compassion. Don was born in Bellingham on June 21, 1930. He spent the majority of his childhood in Mt. Vernon, and later moved to Seattle where he graduated with honors from Garfield High School in 1948. Another important part of Don's youth was his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America, where he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. At the University of Washington, he pledged the Sigma Nu Fraternity and was a cum laud and Phi Beta Kappa graduate. During his college years, he was a member of the ROTC program and became an officer in the Transporation Corp during the Korean conflict. Upon his return, he attended the U.W. Law School and graduated in 1957. He practiced the law for over 40 years in various settings, primarily in Bothell and Redmond. Don is survived by his loving wife Barbara of Redmond, daughter Nancy of Camano Island, son John and grandson Blaine of Leavenworth, stepsons Rick and his daughters Angela, Rachel and Erica of Okanogan and Jeff and his son Blaine of Snohomish, step daughters, Loree and her daughters Sarah and Skyler of Phoenix, and Lisa and her son Ian, and daughters Heather and Kelsey of Snohomish. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Alaska Dawson. A Memorial Service in Don's honor will be held at the Evergreen-Washelli Chapel on Tuesday, November 27th at 2 p.m. Remembrances suggested to Evergreen Hospice Services, 12822 124th Lane N. Ben DEGUCHI
Born February 17, 1924 in Seattle, Washington; passed away November 19, 2001. Survived by wife Jene Chiyo Deguchi and her children; Ross Hori, Bev Uyeda (Art); grandchildren; Allison and Ken Ankrom; brother Tom Deguchi (Jean); and sisters, Mistuko Hamakami (John), Hisako Funai, Yoshiko Tanabe, and sister-in-law Mae Deguchi. Worked for 30 years at Cabrini Hospital in the dietary department.
She is survived by her son Roger Tony Albanese and her brother Ralph Albanese.

Harold Wayne (Jack) DeMUTH
Jack DeMuth died peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 20th, 2001, in the Hospice Center at Kelsey Creek. He was 80 years old. Jack was born in on April 26th, 1921 in Findlay, Ohio. He graduated with honors from Bowling Green High School in Ohio in 1939. Jack earned both a Bachelors and Masters of Social Administration from Ohio State University, where he met his devoted wife of 57 years, Charlene W. DeMuth. They were married
on Sept 30th, 1944 in Fort Pierce, Florida. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1944 -1946 in the South Pacific. Jack devoted a 50-year career to the management of charitable/philanthropic fund-raising campaigns for not-for-profit organizations. These organizations include the Union Gospel Mission of Seattle, Community Chest, United Way, United Fund, the Community Council of Greater New York, YMCA of Ohio, Deaconess Hospital of Billings, Montana, the Mennonite Hospital of Reedley, California, Capitol University of Columbus, Ohio and Pierce College of Athens, Greece, where he held positions ranging from campaign manager to executive director. His fund-raising took him and his family to Newark, New Jersey, Bradford, PA, Rochester and Scarsdale, N.Y., La Jolla, L.A., and Reedley, CA., Denver, CO, Wayland, MA., Concord, NH, Palm Beach, FL., Billings, MT., Corpus Christi, TX., and finally to Seattle. Jack coordinated the purchase of the American Hotel by the Seattle Union Gospel Mission, and the transformation of the hotel into a women's and family shelter. Jack was also past President of the Board of Directors of the Eastside Adult Day Care Services, where he was instrumental in helping them to obtain the funds for a permanent Bellevue facility. Jack was an active member in Bellevue Rotary Club, and Benefactor of the Rotary Endowment for World Peace and Understanding. He helped organize the Rotary's Polio Plus campaign to raise funds for the eradication of polio around the world. He was a founding member of the Eastside Probus Club, a club for retired professionals. Once retired, Jack continued with high energy. He edited and published several books, including works on Jacques DeMolay and Napoleon Bonaparte. He also arrived on the Information Highway with his own website, www.sl8.com/DeMuth. Jack was also an avid Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow. He volunteered many years as a Scout Camp Counselor. His passions were gardening, camping and football. His family has many fond memories of his green thumb and the wonderful vegetables and flowers that he grew, particularly giant sunflowers and pumpkins, numerous camping trips that Jack organized to Big Sur and Arrowhead Lake, and his excitement rooting for his favorite football teams, particularly the Ohio State Buckeyes. Jack was a very giving and generous man. He always put others first, giving comfort and sup port to others, especially the sick and infirmed. He was also extremely resourceful in helping to secure goods and services for charities in need, ranging from major gifts, to soap and shampoo for the women's shelter. Jack's strong convictions, determination, and dedication to service were an inspiration to his family and friends. Jack was a loving and thoughtful father and husband. He touched many lives. Jack, we miss you, and love you very much. He is survived by his wife, Charlene W. De Muth, of Bellevue, Washington, brothers Jim DeMuth and Bob DeMuth and sister Dorothy Stormont all of Columbus, Ohio, sons, Dennis A. DeMuth of Bellevue, Washington, and Richard A. Elizabeth Crawford DOAN
passed away Nov. 15, 2001, with her family beside her, at her home on Whidbey Island. Her loving husband of 62 years, Sandford and their daughters, Judy and her husband Dick Johnson, Marilee and her husband, Bob Stephens, and Janine and her husband Rick Tachell, survives her. She was blessed with seven grandchildren, Steven, Tim, Bob, Sandy, Molly, Keegan and Tyler, and 10 grandchildren. Elizabeth grew up in Seattle and attended Ravenna School and Roosevelt High. Her home was always open to her many wonderful friends and especially to all of the young people that were friends of her children. She was a perfect example of unconditional love, always seeing the positive in every life situation and every person she knew. Everyone will miss her bountiful spirit...her love of life, her vibrant ways, her laughter, and the twinkle in her eye. She has been so courageous, and we know she would like to thank everyone that was close to her for understanding her disease. Her family and friends are going to miss her, but we know that she will be as beautiful an angel in heaven as she was on earth. Lt. Col. (Retired) Wendell W. (Skip) DOBSON
Wendell (Skip) Dobson returned to his Heavenly Father quietly on the evening of Monday, November 19, 2001. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 43 years, Anne, his children and their spouses, Kevin & Lynn Dobson, of San Jose, CA., and Kim & Rick Naten, of Shoreline, as well as his treasured grandchildren, Taylor and Katherine Naten and Brett Dobson. He is also survived by his mother, Eileen Wheeler, of Tacoma, and his brothers and sisters, Alden & Louise Dobson of Orting, Larry & Nancy Dobson of Renton, Renee & Bill Wragge of Denver, Colorado, Leanne & Rich Sowers of Tacoma, Claudia Bootsma of Tacoma, Carl & Sue Wheeler of Auburn, and Shawna Wheeler of Bellevue, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Skip will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to the UW Huskies Football Team. Skip retired in 1990 as a Lieutenant Colonel after 33 years of service to the US Army Reserves. He retired from the University of Washington in 1992 after 30 years of service in administration at the College of Education, and spent the last 9 years traveling the world with his wife, and following his beloved Dawgs across the country every fall.
