E.C. "Jimmie" COLLIER
Age 85, passed away peacefully with his wife, Barbara and friends at his side. He was born on June 18, 1916 in Ballard. Jimmie attended Adams Elementary School, Ballard High School, and Broadway Technical High School. He served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corp. After the War, Jimmie worked for the Telephone Company for many years, as well as running his own machine shop; where he is credited for building racing cars as well as street clocks. He was a lifetime member of the Sky Valley Racing Association and a Hall of Fame Member of the Golden Wheels Racing Fraternity. Jimmie is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Mill Creek; sisters, Pauline Gibson and Joan Peppan, both of Seattle. He was preceded in death by four sisters. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2002, 11:00 a.m. at North Creek Presbyterian Church, 621 - 164th St. S.E., Mill Creek. Brother to Bruce, Bob, Marilynn, Anita, Gary and Wayne. He touched so many people in such an extraordinary way. James Franzman COVINGTON
passed away on May 22nd at his home in Seat tle at age 74. He was born June 30, 1927 in Seattle, Washington. Jim graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle where he was president of his senior class. In 1950, Jim graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in mechanical engineering. At the University, he was a member of the Naval Reserves Officers Training Corps where he served as President of Compass and Chart, the NROTC fraternity. He also was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity, and the Oval Club. Following his graduation, Jim served two years with the Navy as a Lieutenant during the Korean War, based in Japan. He returned to civilian life in 1953 and started his career in engineering. Jim worked for Graystone, Inc. followed by many years at the Charles R. Watts Company in the structural concrete industry. Later, Jim worked for Cascade Testing Laboratories and the Boeing Company. He was a long time member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Jim resided on Mercer Island for 20 years, raising four children and participating in community and school activities. He belonged to the Junior Chamber of Commerce and volunteered in scouting and soccer activities. Jim was a member of the East Shore Unitarian Church of Bellevue. He enjoyed activities with his children and grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Claude Covington, his brother, Claude Jr., and his sister, Helen Elizabeth. He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Fliris, and son-in-law Bill Fliris, of Tanana, Alaska; his daughter, Darci Swanson (late son-in-law, Eric Swanson), of Yakima, Washington; his son, Jim Covington, of Bellevue, Washington; his daughter, Kelly Togesen, and son-in-law, Hans Togesen, of Federal Way, Washington; and his grandchildren, Brendan and Jesse Fliris and Gretchen Swanson. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 30th at the Eastshore Unitarian Church at 12700 S.E. 32nd St., Bellevue. It is located off Richards Road - north of Factoria and I-90. In Loving Memory of Ralph W. Criss Ralph was born Oct. 14, 1920 in Mt. Vernon, WA. He married
Lourene on August 31, 1940 & moved to Seattle in the Magnolia area where he lived until his death on May 22, 2002. He is survived by Lourene, his wife of 61 years; daughter, Barbara Bennett and her husband Tom from LaGuna Beach, CA.; son, Richard Criss and his wife Diane of Arlington, WA. He leaves two grandchildren, Shelly MacRae; Ronald Criss and his wife, Brenda; three step grandchildren, Shelley Beck, Tomi Flack, and Andrew Flack. Also 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister, and one grandchild, Ryan Criss. Ralph was associated with the lumber industries. He was a partner at Tillicum Lumber in Bellevue. He was employed with Gascoigne Wholesale Lumber for the last twenty-five years where he retired in 1986. At his request, no services will be held. Born September 3, 1930. passed away peace fully at home on May 24, 2002. Tony founded United Iron Works, Inc. in January 1955. He was active in Northwest Construction for over 45 years. Age 91, died at home Thursday, May 23, 2002. George was born February 13, 1911 to Fred and Ida Deatherage on a farm in Rosalia, Washington. George possessed an adventurous spirit. He left home at the age of 16 to travel and see the world. He was an Army veteran and past Master of Hawaiian Lodge 21. George's strong will, drive, and determination will always be remembered by his family and friends. George was in outstanding mental health and good physical condition when he died unexpectedly at home on May 23, 2002. Survivors include his wife Myrta, sons Walter, Ralph, and Roy, and his brother Barton. Martha Clement DENTON
Martha Denton was born on December 4, 1955 and passed away on May 22, 2002 surrounded by her family. Martha was born in Chicago, IL, and had resided in the Seattle area for twenty-five years. She graduated from the University of Washington in 1980 with a degree in Nursing, and pursued this profession until the birth of her son, when she elected to devote her attentions to motherhood. She was very active in her church, where she pursued her passion for singing by joining the church choir. A very selfless, giving and loving person, Martha was always interested in the lives of her friends. Her friends returned her love in her last years, as the challenges of MS made her progressively more of an invalid. Martha is survived by her husband Michael, son Christopher, mother Carol Clement, brother John Clement and sister Patricia Clement McCulloch. A memorial service and celebration are planned for June 8, 2002, at Northlake Universalist Church in Kirkland at 5:30 pm to honor Martha's life. Dorothy Marie Sullivan DOMNICK
Born Jan. 7, 1915, and died May 25, 2002. A third generation Seattle resident, Dorothy was the daughter of Bryant K. and Marjory Cairns Sullivan. She attended B.F. Day School and was graduated from Lincoln High School. She was married
in September 1933 to August G. Domnick, who predeceased her in 1971. She is survived by two daughters, Joan Valles, Seattle, and Suzanne Metcalf, Bainbridge Island; five grandchildren, Anne B. Valles, James M. Valles Jr., Andrew P. Valles, Mark A. Metcalf, and Brian M. Metcalf; and three great-grandchildren. Dorothy cherished the Magnolia home where she lived from 1934 until March of this year. She valued and cared for her neighbors, and they cared for her. She had a strong sense of duty and dedication to work, and tending to the well being of her children and grandchildren was the primary love of her life. Her home was her family's headquarters. Dorothy was a keen and selective reader, a student of current events, and an avid listener to KUOW. She was an accomplished gardener, an unparalleled baker of apple pies, and a skilled golfer. From the early 1930s she was a member of Rainier Golf and Country Club where she played regularly until she was nearly 80, walking the course and carrying her own clubs. Upon retirement from the family beau ty shop business, which she and her husband owned and operated for more than 50 years, she greatly enjoyed working as a volunteer for the Group Health Senior Resource Line. A Service in remembrance of Dorothy will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 1st at Bleitz Funeral Home, (206) 282-5220. An organization of particular interest to Dorothy was the Nature Conservancy.
