Dr. Harry Dickson PATTON

Born in Bentonville, Arkansas, died in Seattle on May 26, 2002 at the age of 84. He graduated from the University of Arkansas, where he was later awarded an honorary LLD degree. He earned both an M.D. and a Ph.D. in Physiology at Yale University. In 1948 he came to Seattle to join the newly established Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Washington Medical School and stayed there until his retirement in 1983. He served as Chairman of the Department from 1966-1983. He was an avid reader, an enthusiastic guitar player/singer, a talented amateur woodwork er, and loved cruising the Pacific Northwest and Alaskan waters with his family and friends on his boat, the Neuron II. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Barbara, his daughters, Ann (and John) Bentley, and Betsy Carlson and four grandchildren, Justin (and Elisa) Sears, Tim Sears, Peter Carlson, and Molly Carlson, his sister-in- law Elizabeth Patton and his nephew Dickson Patton. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 8, 2002, 4 p.m. at the University Unitarian Church in Seattle, WA. The family suggests remembrances be made to the N.W. Harvest, P.O. Box 12272, Seattle, WA. 98102 or to the Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Fairfax Dr., Suite 100, Arlington, VA. 22203.

Vincent Guy PELLEGRINI

Born July 23, 1941 in Seattle, WA., died peace fully in his sleep on May 22, 2002 in La Quinta, CA. Vince is survived by his childhood sweet heart and loving wife of 40 years, Denise Deeny Pellegrini and by his three much loved sons and their spouses, Guy and Meredith, Joseph, and Anthony and Tami Pellegrini, two granddaughters Isabella and Sophia, who all brought him much joy and pride. Vince is also survived by his mother, Agnes Pellegrini, his sister and brother-in-law Judith Callahan and John Van Bronkhorst and his brother Stephen Pellegrini as well as seven nieces and nephews and their families. He was a man of faith who valued family and friends above all else. Raised on Beacon Hill in Seattle, he was a member of St. George Parish for over 30 years, where he was active in the parish council and school board and coached his three sons and their friends in soccer and baseball. He graduated from O'Dea High School and in 1965 joined the King County Sheriff's Department where he earned the respect and lifelong friendship of many of his fellow officers. He attained the rank of sergeant before he retired for reasons of health in 1979. Vince and Denise moved to Whidbey Island where they lived for 11 years. An avid golfer, Vince was a member of the Useless Bay Golf and Country Club, serving on the board of directors from 1991 to 1997 with two years as president. In November of 1994, Vince was the recipient of a kidney transplant from his wife. This "gift of life" enabled him to live without dialysis for the next eight years. He lived each day fully, considering a "good day to be any day in which he woke up." He loved his sunshine days and the wonderful weather of the desert, enjoyed his exercises in the pool, especially with his family. He loved all the visits from out-of-town friends. Viewing today, Tuesday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Wiggen & Son Funeral Home, 2003 - N.W. 57th St., Seattle. A Funeral Mass celebrating his remarkable life will be said at St. Benedict's Church, 1805 N. 49th St., on Thursday, May 30th at 11 a.m. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment Holyrood cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Virginia Mason Foundation, Kidney/Pancreas Transplant Team, 1100 - 9th Ave, PO Box 1930, Seattle, 98111. (Obit dated 05/28/2002.)

Sandra Dodson PETERS

Sandra Dodson Peters, beloved wife of Kenneth Peters, of Lakewood, went to her loving God after a 14-year battle with cancer, on May 25, 2002. Sandra was being treated at Eisenhower Hospital in Rancho Mirage, CA. the location of their winter home. Sandra was born to James and Marie Dodson in Seattle on November 10, 1937. She grew up in Seattle and graduated from Lake Washington High School in 1955 and from Seattle University in 1959. Sandra is survived by her husband, Kenneth Peters; her six children, Teresa Dean (husband Ron), Tom Miller, Karen Lewis (husband Michael), Anne Creamer (husband Frank), David Miller (wife Toby), and James Miller; sister Marcia Moldstad; Ken's two daughters Gretchen Peters-Pasquan (husband John), Kristen Peters; and eleven grandchildren. Sandra was a member of the Tacoma Golf & Country Club, along with her husband, where she was a participant in the Ladies 9-Hole group and, subsequently, became the captain of the Ladies 18-Hole group. She was also a member of the Lakewood Republican Women's Club, St. John Bosco Catholic Church and the Catholic Women's Club. Sandra was an avid Husky Football fan, who loved sharing the excitement of the games and related activities with her husband and friends. She thoroughly enjoyed the friends she made and the experiences she had while traveling worldwide with her husband. Sandra had the gift of making everyone feel special. She was elegant, kind and unselfish. Sandra was a wonderful mother, wife, friend, and all around beautiful human being. She was loved deeply by her husband, children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. She will be dearly missed. Services will be held at St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Lakewood on June 1, 2002 at 11 a.m., and will be followed by a reception at the Tacoma Golf & Country Club. (Obit dated 05/31/2002.)

Donald Earl PIERCE

Donald Earl Pierce died May 19th, 2002. Donald resided in Kent for 31 years with his beloved wife, Karon. He served in the Army for three years. Donald worked in Warehousing and Trucking for 29 years. He also worked on opening SeaTac Holiday Inn with his father-in-law, William C. Brennan. There were many types of sports he enjoyed and was an avid Mariners Fan. Donald was the loving father of Corina Pierce, and doting grandfather of Keith and Nakona. During his youth, he resided in California. He was the son of Arthur and Lula Pierce. Don was the youngest of five children. Brother of Richard Pierce, Claude Pierce, Betty Trade, and Oriana Hurst. He grew up in Stockton and Sacramento, California. To know him was to be a member of his family. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thurs., 5/30/02 at Covington Memorial Service. A Memorial will be held 4 p.m. Sat., 6/1/02 at Covington Chris tian Fellowship. (Obit dated 05/29/2002.)

Mildred PURVIANCE

Born 11/06/08 in Conconully, WA. Died 05/21/02 Bothell, WA.
Survived by daughters Barbara Green Clarkston, GA., Marilyn Hines (husband Ray) Bothell; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother Howard Elmore (wife Eileen) Wenatchee; niece Roberta Coffee (husband Bill and two grand nieces) and nephew Richard Elmore (two grand nephews).

Gerhard Alfred RAUH

Gerhard was born January 11th 1934 in Berlin, Germany, and died May 21st 2002 in his home in Kent, Washington. He is survived by his ex-wife of 26 years Elfrieda Rauh of Kent, two sons Wolfgang of Federal Way, and Werner of Kent, and a daughter Susan Chapel also of Kent. His eldest son Helmut preceded him in death. Gerhard had 3 grandsons, Nikolas, Vincent, and Alex Rauh, and two granddaughters Katrina and Ashley. Also surviving are two brothers and sisters still in Berlin, Helmut, Walter, Else Hilleger and Ruth Hilleger, and his "favorite sister", Irma Bischoff of Ottawa, Canada. Gerhard lived in Germany till age 18 completing the apprenticeship in his fathers bakery. He then immigrated to the east coast of Canada where he married , started his family, and after serving the Canadian Army, completed another apprenticeship as a machinist. In 1967 the Boeing company accepted application to move the Rauh family to the Seattle area where Gerhard had remained since, retiring from Jorgensen steel in 1993. Those who knew Gerhard will remember him as a beautiful soul, a man so kind at heart, so generous in actions and deeds. He will also be remembered for his innovation, creativity, and of course his "golden hands". Gerhard was one of those rare people that often seemed to be able to create anything out of nothing. Gerhard endorsed live and let live, and he was thoroughly a man of his word. Gerhards final resting place will be the urn garden at Hillcrest cemetery on scenic hill in Kent.

Walter REIERSON

Born the 2nd of 4 children to Othillie and Reinert Reierson in Ballard, WA., June 9, 1906, Walt passed away on Wednesday, 22 May, 2002, at home in Gig Harbor. Raised in the community of Grace, WA - near Woodinville, WA, Walt graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1924; attended the University of Washington, School of Forestry, worked for (then) National Bank of Commerce and later as credit manager for Diesel Oil Sales. In 1931, he married Margaret Lovett, and together they raised 2 sons: Paul and Ron. Walt enlisted in the Naval Reserve in 1925, rising to the rating of Machinist Mate First Class, then received a direct commission to LT (j.g.), sup ply corps in 1937. In 1940, Walt volunteered for active duty, serving until 1948, then main tained his service in the Naval Reserve, retiring in 1958 with the rank of Commander. In 1948, the family moved from Lakeview, WA to Gig Harbor, onto (nearly) 40 acres of land near Wollochet Bay. Walt was employed thereafter by Government Personnel Mutual Life Insurance Company as a Special Agent, and in 1958 with the State of Washington-Retired Affairs Dept, until his retirement in 1967. He was a member of the Gig Harbor Elks, The Retired Officer Association, the Supply Corps League of the United States and numerous other organizations. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, and oldest son, Paul. He is survived by a brother, William of Wenatchee, son Ron (Patricia) of Fircrest, WA., 4 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and 5 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Haven of Rest Chapel, Highway 16, Gig Harbor, WA. at 1 p.m. on Saturday, 8 June, 2002. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity. We are thankful for the help of caregivers Cindy Evans, Bec, and Greg Jolley and Karen Carreau, and Hospice-Multicare for their medical and emotional support during Walt's final days. Edward D. RICHARDSON

Age 86, passed away on Friday, May 24, 12002 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Ed will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Martha, his daughter Connie and her husband Gauttier Bisnar and his grandchildren Marissa and Sean Bisnar. Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 1, 2002 at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 833 - South Thistle Street, Seattle, WA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Union Gospel Mis sion or charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Yarington's Funeral Home. (Obit dated 05/28/2002.)

Richard "Dick" ROBERTS

Born 1/7/26 in Puente, CA. Died 5/19/02 in Auburn, WA. Served in the Navy during WWII, retired Teamster truck driver. Survived by former wife, Teresa Tierney; children, Rick (Lori), Kevin (Lucy), Teresa Mincks, Jeanne (Lance) Schrer, Matt (Cherrie); grandchildren, Randy, Natalie and Janine Mincks, and Kylee Roberts. preceded in death by son Mike Roberts. Survived by numerous brothers and sisters. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. "Keep on trunkin' dad, we'll meet you on the highway to heaven". Margaret "Georgette" ROLPH

Born October 25, 1927, passed away May 23, 2002 at her home in Shoreline, Wash. Survived by her daughter Sharon (Larry) Freeland; son Craig (Carol) Rolph; three grandchildren: Carrie, Amy and Ashley Rolph; sister, Pat Anthony; and mother, Mary Pope. She was preceded in death by her son, Dana Rolph. A Graveside Service will be held June 1, 11 a.m. at Edmonds Memorial cemetery, 100th Avenue & 15th Street, Edmonds. Aaron Allen ROSE

Left us happy and living life to the fullest with his friends. Through a tragic accident he slipped and fell into Deception Falls and drowned on Memorial Day, May 27, 2002. His friends true to the end tried to save his life, but it was not to be. Born March 31, 1976 in Vancouver, Wash. His parents Ronald O. Rose and Thelma I. Ferguson preceded him in death. His mom in life Sharon McGilvery; his brother in life, Terry McGowan, his wife Joy, and their children, Dustin, Mallory, Kelsey and Brendon Allen of Seattle, survive him. Other surviving family members are Sandy Moen and family, Melody White's family which include Aaron's half brothers and sisters, Chad, Amanda, Josh, Danielle and Jeremiah all of Vancouver, WA. He has left many treasured friends. Services will be held at 12 Noon on Monday June 3, 2002 at the LDS Bothell Stake Center, 16500 124th Ave. N.E., Woodinville, WA. and Viewing prior to Services from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. All flowers should be delivered to Green Funeral Home, 1215-145th Place S.E., Bellevue, WA.
