Peter John THOMAS

Peter John Thomas was born Feb. 4, 1964 and died in an auto accident May 25, 2002. Peter leaves behind his parents Jay and Sue Thomas, his wife Rory, their sons Cole and Trent, a sister Tara Murphy, her husband Steve and their children Stevie, Madison and Shelby. Peter was a 1986 graduate of the U.W. and a member of Zeta Psi Fraternity; since he has been employed by Boeing most recent ly as an Integrated Scheduler on the 777LR. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 30 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 6511 - 176th St. S.W., Lynnwood, WA. David Paine THOMPSON

Dave passed away quietly Thursday, May 23rd at his home in Clyde Hill surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Ruth and Guy Thompson on April 17, 1924 in Seattle. Dave graduated from Garfield High School and began his studies at the University of Washington. His education was interrupted when he enlisted in the Army in 1942. Dave served proudly in the 99th Division, Company K. He was captured on December 16, 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge. Dave remained a P.O.W. until April 17, 1945. He was decorated with a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, an Air Medal, and various other campaign medals. Upon his return to Seattle, Dave resumed his studies at the University under the G.I. Bill. On July 6, 1946 he married Barbara Jean Cushing. Dave was a member of the SAE fraternity and captain of the Crew before he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. He accepted an engineering position with Standard Oil of California in San Francisco. In 1955 Dave accepted a position with Citizens Federal Savings & Loan, bringing him back to Seattle. Dave was with Citizens for 31 years, serving as the President and C.E.O. for 19 years. Always looking for a new adventure, Dave and his daughter Carol together owned and operated Evergreen Gal lery for the last 12 years. Dave participated in many local professional, service, and trade organizations, including President of the Downtown Seattle Kiwanis and Chairman of the BBB. He loved to play tennis and was an active member of Central Park Tennis Club. Dave was also a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Medina. Dave is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Barbara, daughter Margy and her husband Lee, and three grown children, Laura, Teri and Lane, daughter Carol and her husband Dave, and children Kellen and Taryn, and six great-grandchildren. His friend, tennis partner and brother Roger will also miss Dave. His charismatic personality, sense of integrity and zest for life will also be remembered by countless friends. A Memori al Service will be held Tuesday, May 28th at 11 a.m., at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 8398 N.E. 12th Street, Medina. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to St. Thomas Project Outreach or the Salvation Army. (Obit dated 05/26/2002.)

Sharon Burr THOMPSON

passed away on May 24, 2002 after a long courageous battle with cancer. She will finally rest without pain and suffering. She was born on January 28, 1939, raised by her grandmother Ruth Hurn. She moved to the Seattle area in 1964. She is survived by daughter, Lori Bender, of Renton, WA. Son, Mitchell Bender and wife, Tammy of Auburn, WA., daughter, Linda Brashear of Seattle, WA., and daughter, Lisa Burr of Kent, WA. Her grandchildren, Stephanie Schene, Jason and Jacki Beem Tiler and Rachel Burr. Her brother Pete and wife Teresa of Lewiston, ID., sister, Jean Stottlemyre and husband Mel of Issaquah, WA., and sister, Linda Allen of Wenatchee, WA., and many other family and friends. Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2002 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Marlatt Funeral Home, 713 N. Central Ave., Kent, WA. 98032. Services will be held on Friday, May 31, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stephen of the Martyr Church, 13055 S.E. 192nd, Renton, WA. 98055. Burial following the service at Hillcrest Burial Park, 1005 Reiten Rd., Kent, WA. 98031. (Obit dated 05/29/2002.)

Vivian THOMPSON

Vivian THOMPSON, 69, of Des Moines died on May 23, 2002. Born in Clarkfield, MN. on August 2, 1932 and was a 35- year resident of the Seattle and Kent area. She worked as a Medical Technologist for 28 years at Valley Medical Center and for 30 years, part-time at Kent Medical Center. Long-time Mountaineer, member of the Single Adult Fellowship Group in Bellevue, member of the Kent Senior Citizen's Center. Loving mother of Eric Thompson, Kent, Jeaudelle Foster, Brush Prairie, and Brent Thompson, Tacoma. Also survived by her sister Myrna Smith, Salem, OR. and six grandchildren. Memorial Services Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Des Moines. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. (Obit dated 05/27/2002.)

Resurreccion TORRES 'Essie', 58, passed away May 25, 2002 in Seattle, WA. Survived by her husband Alberto Torres; children Pamela and Rexbert; granddaughter Camille. She is also survived by her father Timoteo Bobaddlia; six brothers, four sisters; 12 nieces and 12 nephews. Born in the Philippines, Essie moved to Seattle with her family in March 1994. Viewing to be held 1 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2002 with a Prayer Service at 3 p.m. in the Mountain View Celebration of Life Center. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home (253) 584-0252. Mr. James W. VanDERLINDEN

James W. VanDerlinden died at the age of 67 on May 20, 2002 in Port Angeles, Washington. He was born February 23, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois to Glen and LaVerne Spohnholtz VanDerlinden. Jim was a 30 year employee of the Boeing Company and a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard serving during the 1950's. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed woodworking, fishing, cooking and traveling. He enjoyed working with his hands and earlier in his life he enjoyed drag racing. He is survived by his wife Linda VanDerlinden of Sequim, Washington; sisters, Jan Strobeck of Spokane, Washington, Jackie Alexander of Kirkland, Washington (preceded in death by sister, Joan Michael of Seattle, Washington); daughters, Juli Valentine of Port Angeles, Washington, Stacy Olds of Redmond, Washington, Michelle Dodge of Enumclaw, Washington, Teresa Eucker of Olympia, Washington and Wendy Aldrich of Phoenix, Arizona; 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Their will be no services at Jim's request. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3434 Martin Way N.E., Olympia, Washington 98506 or the Northwest Kidney Center, 700 Broadway, Seattle, Wash. 98122. Nadine I. VEREIDE

Nadine I. Vereide died in Seattle, WA. on May 29, 2002 at the age of 78. She is survived by her husband Arthur E. Vereide, a brother Raymond Massie and her children Larry E. Hottell, Franklin C. and Pamela Hottell, Lee Hottell, Rex and Marsha Hottell, and Bonita and Joe Chesheir. She enjoyed spending time with her family including her 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was an avid bowler and retired from Roxbury Lanes in 1989. She also enjoyed her family in owning and racing horses at Longacres and Emerald Downs making race days a family occasion. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. on June 3rd with a Funeral Service on June 4th at 3 p.m. both held at BONNEY-WATSON Washington Memorial Park in SeaTac. Memorials may be made to Swedish Hospice of Seattle.

Genevieve M. VIK

Age 92, was born Sept. 13, 1909 in New Albany, IN. and passed away May 26, 2002 in Seattle, WA. Survived by her sister, Lois Breese of Seattle. Genevieve was a past member of Leif Erikson Lodge, #1, Sons of Norway and was a life member of Nordmansforbundant. Memorial Service 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1st at The Norse Home, 5311 Phinney Ave. N., Seattle. Memorials are suggested to The Norse Home. John Lawrence VOORHEES

Born in Seattle July 5, 1953, John died May 16, 2002 of a heart attack after a long bout with diabetes. He was the son of Judge and Mrs. Donald Voorhees. He was predeceased by his father and eldest brother, Stephen. He attended View Ridge and Eckstein as well as Roosevelt H.S. where he played on the varsity tennis team. He graduated from the U.W. with a degree in English in 1976. For ten years, starting in college, he owned Honest Al's Records in the University District and downtown. Though John was a wounded spirit from his psychiatric problems he was always able to relate to new people. He was known for his concern for others, his politeness and a fundamental sweetness that came through. He never missed a high school reunion to reconnect with old friends and classmates. Besides tennis and the Sonics, John enjoyed his job, music, and spending time at the family cabin near Mount Rainier. He will be missed by his mother Anne, his brothers David and Richard and his sister Diane, as well as his sisters-in-law Janet, Andrea and Dina and the loyal friends who remember his warmly. Remembrances may be made to the Group Health Diabetic Foundation, Dept. 4194, PO Box 34936, Seattle, 98124-1936. A private family Memorial Service has been held. (Obit dated 05/29/2002.)

Hiram Alick WALKER

Hiram Alick WALKER, 87, of Mount Vernon, passed away Monday, May 27, 2002 at Skagit Valley Hospital. He was born April 28, 1915 in Alberta, Canada the son of Alick and Daisey Mae Walker. Hiram was a WW II veteran and worked as a CPA for Alaska Steamship Co. and Foss Tug. He resided in Seattle until 1992 when he and his wife, Virginia, moved to Mount Vernon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Ryan Walker; brothers, Vern and Herman Walker; sisters, Dorothy Hackford and Ethel Jones. He is survived by sisters, Launita Thompson, Vivian Kielley, Bernice Benadon and her husband Dan, Elenora Himple, Marjorie Severson and her husband Gerald; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend 6-year-old Carly Eilers. Hiram had many friends and wonderful neighbors. He was a member of Queen City Yacht Club, Lake City Elks, Mount Vernon Elks where he served as a Trustee for many years. At his request no services will be held. A family gathering will be on June 2, 2002 at his sisters home in Mount Vernon. Cremation was conducted at Hawthorne Memorial Park under the direction of Hawthorne Funeral Home. (Obit dated 05/29/2002.)

Lela Dorothy (Ralston) WEKELL

Lela Dorothy (Ralston) WEKELL, 89. Longtime resident of Hazelwood/Newport Hills; wife, loving mother, & passionate gardener, "Grandma Lee" to several generations of family & neighborhood kids, died peacefully in her sleep on 5/21/02, surrounded by friends and family. Lee was born 4/13/1913 in Springfield, OR. She worked as a payroll clerk for the Navy in San Francisco during WWII. While volunteering at the USO she met the love of her life, Mathew Wekell; who preceded her in death in June, 1974. Lee is survived by her sons Pete (Darcy) and Bill (Martha), grandchildren Doug, Corri, Matt, Jake, Dan, Nick & Chris, & great-grandchildren Alex, Lili, Brandon and Shelby, sister Virginia Englehard, and beloved nieces and nephews. No services at her request; remembrances may be made to American Cancer Society for breast cancer research. (Obit dated 05/26/2002.)
