Margaret (Marge) R. BRADBURN
November 22, 1942 - July 22, 2002
Just four months short of her sixtieth birthday, on a beautiful summer evening, Marge passed away from complications of her brief but courageous battle with lung cancer. She is sorely missed by her husband, Bruce, of thirty-nine years, her three children: Bruce, Glen and Heather; five marvelous grandchildren: Megan, Con nor, Patrick, Hailey and Sarah; her broth er, John and mother, Margaret; her be loved in-laws; and scores of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews; and hundreds of "best" friends. She was born in Omaha and raised in Evanston, Illinois, where she met Bruce at Northwestern University in 1961. They were married
June 15, 1963 and moved to Seattle. She spent her first few years here getting her children off on the right foot and involving herself in the Robert Booth Orthopedic Guild, where she made many lifelong friends. She served as President and Treasurer of the Guild many times over the years. She then embarked on one of her many careers by working as a part time teller at Prudential Bank. Her banking career took her through Assistant Manager and finally as a Director of the Bank of Northshore until its merger into Frontier Financial. She then moved on the be come an Account Representative at GM Nameplate where she was admired by her customers and co-workers alike as a real "can-do" lady who understood people and made every business decision as if she owned the business herself. She "retired" from GM to allegedly just play tennis and be Super Grandma, but she also started her next career as a property manager for the Tradewinds Resort in Tokeland, where she organized and completed several major construction projects including a new state-of-the-art septic system and the spectacular party room. She had also just about finished the plans for her new project, The Inn at Bradburn Landing, which she and Bruce planned to operate as a bed and breakfast on Quadra Island. This will be carried on by the family as a lasting tribute to her. In the last few years, she finally was able to "retire" to her beloved tennis, playing at least 2 - 3 times a week with friends, in drills, and with Emerald Cup. Here she formed many new friendships, reinforced old ones, and it provided her with hours of great fun, wonderful memories, and the chance to re-hash every point of every match in minute detail with any one who showed the least bit of interest. She never just "did" anything; she was an integral part of it. She didn't just live in Blue Ridge; she served on the board and was a major player in the project to replace the swimming pool and surroundings. She didn't just send Glen and Heather to Blanchet; she served on the Advisory Board and the Development Committee and planted the seeds for what became the first capital campaign in the history of the school: Brave Future. Not satisfied with this, she co-chaired the campaign and saw it through to a successful conclusion. She was about to take a well-earned rest when the next phase of the campaign came up, and she again agreed to co-chair Phase Two, which is now underway. She didn't just join the Assistance League, she organized their fundraising auction. She had a seemingly boundless reserve of energy and was always ready to give of her time, expertise, organizational skills, resources and whatever else it took to get something done. She also gave freely of her love and never failed to be there for her friends. A Memorial Service will be held at Bishop Blanchet High School on Friday, August 2, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. A celebration of her life will follow immediately. As a fitting tribute to her considerable efforts of the past few years, remembrances may be made in her name to the Blanchet Capital Cam paign. (Obit dated 07/30/2002.)
