Valen Harold HONEYWELL
August 29, 1916 - July 24, 2002
BEYOND BELIEF HOW FAST THE YEARS-- HOW FULL THE JOYS-- HOW FEW THE TEARS. --V.H.H. Valen was born in Morton, WA., moving with his family to Tacoma when he was 12. He graduated from Lincoln High School and the College of Puget Sound. He taught school for a year before enrolling in the University of Washington Law School in 1942. In 1943 he married

In 1952 he joined the law firm where he worked until his retirement in 1991. Valen and his beloved wife Sheila traveled all over the world, but they found their contentment during the last ten years in their second home on the island of Kauai. Whether in Taco ma or Kauai, they loved to play golf and bridge. Valen was also a devoted tennis player. Valen was very proud of his four children and seven grandchildren: Mark (Diane and son Matthew); Erica (Terry and children Amy and Jay) Posner; John (Sylvie and children Shona and Elye); and Scott (children Reid and Sarah.) Valen once said, "I have aspired to be a good husband, a good father, a good Christian, a good lawyer and a good guy, in that order." His greatest legacy to his family and friends will be his limitless, passionate commitment to Sheila, the love of his life and his wife of 59- 1/2 years. Valen will be remembered as a poet, a scholar, a humorist, and a consummate gentleman. His warmth and sincere affection will be missed. The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff at St. Joseph's Hospital. A Memorial will be held Thursday, Aug. 1 at 2:00 p.m. at University Place Presbyterian Church, 8101 27th St. West, Tacoma.
