Fred G. Phillips
Fred G. Phillips of Pacific died Jan. 28, 2001, in Pacific. He was 78.
Born March 25, 1922, in Seattle, Mr. Phillips served in the Navy on the USS Saratoga in the South Pacific during World War II. He lived in Pacific for 52 years.
Mr. Phillips worked as a brakeman for Burlington Northern Railroad, retiring in retired in 1982 after 32 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion in Auburn and enjoyed traveling to South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bill Phillips, and daughter Patty Phillips. Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife, Florence Phillips of Pacific; son Fred R. Phillips of Federal Way; daughters Susan Shane of Spokane and Laureen Phillips and Janie 'Bug' Guesman, both of Algona; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Price-Helton Funeral Chapel in Auburn. Burial will follow at Mountain View cemetery in Auburn.
Memorials may be made to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Mary Lou Rudolph
Mary Lou Rudolph died of cancer Jan. 27, 2001, at her home in Pacific. She was 67.
Born April 13, 1933, in Nebraska, she lived in the South County area for 15 years.
She was preceded in death by a grandson. She is survived by her son, Ray O. Evans of Kent; daughters Patti Wilson of Algona, Marlene Brittingham of Sumner, Ann Cramer of Scappose, Ore., and Raeleen Evans of Kent; brother Bill Fyfe of Minatare, Neb.; sisters Doris Fyfe of Omaha, Neb., Shirely Johnson of Central City, Neb., Betty Hondorf of Shelby, Neb., and Carol Goranson of Kimball, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Marlatt Funeral Home. Burial will be at Mountain View cemetery in Auburn.
Ruth L. Steele
Ruth L. Steele of Maple Valley died Jan. 28, 2001, at Issaquah Care Center in Issaquah. She was 78.
Born March 5, 1922, in Manistique, Mich., she attended school in Hoquiam, Tacoma and Utah, where she graduated from high school in 1940. She married
Floyd M. Steele on Oct. 4, 1940, in Manistique and lived in the Kent and Maple Valley areas for 38 years.
A homemaker, Mrs. Steele was a member of Valley City Eastern Star 72, Daughters of the Nile Hatasu Temple 1 and Washington Unit of the Wally Byan Caravan Club.
Mrs. Steele was preceded in death by her daughter, Shannon Lee Steele, and brother Lloyd Thomas. She is survived by her husband, Floyd M. Steele of Maple Valley; daughters Elizabeth Reed of Covington and Linda McMonagle of Maple Valley; brother Paul Thomas of Grand Marais, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Family viewing will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent, followed by a funeral service at 2:30 p.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.

Thomas Vernon Deugau
Thomas Vernon Deugau of Renton died Jan. 28, 2001, in Renton. He was 75.
He was born May 3, 1925, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Mr. Deugau married
Sandra Marie Czyzewski on Sept. 9, 1981, in Seattle and lived in Renton for 12 years.
Mr. Deugau managed a public storage business for 12 years and managed an apartment building in Everett. He was a member of Renton Christian Center since 1991 and enjoyed camping, reading, hiking, classic movies and his cats.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra M. Deugau of Renton.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Renton Christian Center.

Helen Leona O'Dell
Helen Leona O'Dell of Kent died Jan. 27, 2001, in Auburn. She was 84.
Born March 23, 1916, in Renton, she married
Wayne O'Dell on July 21, 1949, and was a lifetime resident of the South County area.
Mrs. O'Dell worked as a receptionist at The Boeing Co. and enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne O'Dell of Kent; sons David Owens of Raymond, Denny Owens of Hobart and Doug Owens of Anacortes; brother Ray Storey of Molala, Ore.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton.

Joan A. Mark
Former Auburn resident Joan A. Mark of Olympia died Jan. 27, 2001, at Evergreen Nursing Home in Olympia. She was 85.
Born Aug. 25, 1915, in Lindsay, Okla., she married
LeRoy A. Mark in 1943 in San Diego.
Mrs. Mark worked as a meat wrapper at Delghren & Massey in Auburn. She enjoyed rose gardening and traveling in her Airstream trailer.
She is survived by her husband, LeRoy Mark of Olympia; daughter Helen Berglund of Shelton; a grandchild; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Land Yacht Harbor in Olympia.

Alfred E. Minshull
Alfred E. Minshull of Renton died Jan. 25, 2001, in Seattle. He was 75.
Born Aug. 13, 1925, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, he lived in the South County area for 50 years.
Mr. Minshull was a master cabinetmaker and a member of Skyway Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9430. He enjoyed telling stories.
He is survived by his son, Ed Minshull of Seattle; daughters Carol Minshull of Renton, Joan Baldwin of Bothell and Sharon Waterman of Kent; brothers Arthur Minshull of Yelm and Richard Minshull of Olympia; sisters Alberta Schmid of Tacoma, Orma Minshull of California and Marie Turner and Beulah Sleeper, both of Olympia; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Park in Renton.

Curt Barnes
Curt Barnes of Auburn died Jan. 27, 2000, in Auburn. He was 64.
Born Sept. 5, 1936, in Sweetwater, Texas, he lived in Auburn for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Barnes of Auburn.

Marvin L. Jones
Former Auburn resident Marvin L. Jones of Klamath Falls, Ore., died Jan. 10, 2001, in Klamath Falls. He was 61.
Born Oct. 23, 1939, in Clarksville, Ark., he lived in the South County area for 15 years.
Mr. Jones was a member of the Auburn Eagles and enjoyed working crossword puzzles, gardening, camping, dancing and giving a helping hand to others.
He is survived by his sons, Steve Jones of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Scott Jones; daughters Judi Jones and Sandra Jones, both of Klamath Falls; brothers Lawrence Jones of Klamath Falls and Noel Jones of Eugene, Ore.; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Auburn Eagles.

Benjamin L. Corp
Former Kent resident Benjamin L. Corp of Sumner died Jan. 27, 2001, in Sumner. He was 75.
Born Dec. 22, 1925, in Chehalis, he grew up in Portland, Ore., and attended Benson High School.
He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and married
Marilyn Pries in 1967 in Fresno, Calif.
Mr. Corp retired in 1994 as a businessman. He enjoyed vacations in Hawaii.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Corp of Sumner; son Craig Corp of Puyallup; daughter Gayle Jolley of Puyallup; stepson Robert Pries of Sumner; stepdaughters Robin Baker of Sumner and Sandra Burns of Buckley; sisters Irene Lamon of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Clara Wooden of Portland, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew's Chapel in Sumner. Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice in Puyallup.
