Fred Steffen Jr.
Fred Steffen Jr. of Puyallup died March 30, 2001. He was 63.
Born April 29, 1937, in Sioux Falls, S.D., Mr. Steffen grew up in Long Beach, Calif.
Mr. Steffen worked for Safeway for 23 years until opening his store in Clackamas, Ore. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Federal Way. He enjoyed painting, photography, his family, car trips and laughing.
He is survived by his sons, Mark Steffen of Puyallup and Michael Steffen of Milton; daughter Debbie Leon-Guerrero of Tacoma; mother Frieda Steffen of Seal Beach, Calif.; sisters Eunice Stephens of Goleta, Calif., Cheryl Brooks of Westminster, Calif., and Karen Long of Jacksonville, Fla; brother Ron Steffen of Dallas, Texas; and three grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Steffen.
A viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Federal Way.

James B. Scott
James B. Scott of Kent died March 26, 2001, at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle. He was 57.
Born Dec. 26, 1943, in Kansas City, Mo., Mr. Scott graduated from Loyola Marymount University in California and was attending Western University. He married
Rebecca J. Jackson in 1975 and was a resident of Kent 10 years.
He worked as an instructional assistant in the Kent School District eight years at Matson and Cedar Heights Junior High Schools. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Kent. He enjoyed teaching and bicycling and had participated in the Seattle to Portland bicycle race.
Mr. Scott is survived by his wife, Becky Scott of Kent; sons Mathew Scott of Santa Cruz, Calif., Robert Scott of Kent and Aubrey DeRush of Seattle; daughters Anne Scott of Kent, Sarah Scott of Sacramento, Calif., and Laura LeRoy of Watsonville, Calif.; sisters Roberta League of Spokane, Nancy Maggart of Bellevue and JoEllen Hathaway of Seattle; and a grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. James Episcopal Church in Kent. Inurnment will be at St. James Episcopal Church.

June L. Koehler
June Louise Koehler of Renton died March 27, 2001, in Renton. She was 83.
Born Aug. 9, 1917, in Glasgow, Mont., she married
Warren C. Koehler in 1964 in Reno, Nev., and was a resident of Renton since 1973, moving from Seattle.
She worked as a grocery clerk for 20 years. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Renton and enjoyed playing cards and traveling.
Mrs. Koehler was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Price in 1999; and daughters Joan Hauge in 1995 and Faye Johnson in 1997. She is survived by her husband, Warren C. Koehler of Renton; son Jerome Price of Bremerton; half-brother Fred Perkins of Minot, N.D.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Faull-Stokes Mortuary in Renton. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.
Memorials may be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Renton.

James R. `Bob' Stratton
James R. 'Bob' Stratton of SeaTac died of cancer March 28, 2001, in Seattle. He was 51.
Born Jan. 14, 1950, at Sand Point Naval Air Station in Seattle, Mr. Stratton attended Tyee High School in SeaTac and joined the Navy in 1969.
He worked as a truck driver and mechanic for Associated Grocers and other trucking companies. He enjoyed playing darts and pool.
Mr. Stratton is survived by his sons, James Robert Stratton Jr., of SeaTac and Sean Michael Stratton of Mountlake Terrace; stepson Bo Evans of Grandview; stepdaughter Rose Evans of Pasco; parents Kenneth J. and Rose (Taylor) Stratton of SeaTac; brothers Kenneth J. Stratton Jr., of Federal Way and William W. Stratton of SeaTac; and sisters Cindy Codoni of SeaTac, Roseanna Russell of SeaTac and Sherry Hopper; and fiancee Ranae J. Rowland of Seattle.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Marlatt Funeral Home. Burial will be at Hillcrest Burial Park in Kent.

Doris `Dode' D. Kruse
Former Auburn resident Doris 'Dode' DeLance Kruse of Puyallup died of cancer March 24, 2001, in Puyallup. She was 86.
Born March 26, 1914, in Auburn, Mrs. Kruse graduated from Auburn High School in 1931. She wrote and published the 'Lowdowns & Highlights' newsletter for Auburn High graduates.
She retired as a clerical worker for the City of Puyallup and was a member of the Auburn Historical Society.
Mrs. Kruse was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Kruse; and first husband, Albert Wright. She is survived by nine cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. April 7 at Mountain View cemetery in Auburn.
Memorials may be made to the Auburn Historical Society or to the Tacoma Humane Society.

Lucille `Dolly' Griffin Ganley
Former Renton resident Lucille 'Dolly' Griffin Ganley of Bellevue died March 29, 2001, on Mercer Island. She was 69.
Born Nov. 23, 1931, in Seattle, Mrs. Ganley graduated from Renton High School in 1949.
She worked as a utility clerk for Puget Sound Power & Light Company. She was a member of the women's auxiliary of Fire District #25 and enjoyed yard work.
Mr. Ganley is survived by her husband, James Ganley of Bellevue; son Bill Ganley of Battle Ground; and brother Wayne Griffin of San Bernardino, Calif.
At her request, no service will be held.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Ruth Frances Jones
Ruth Frances Jones of Auburn died Sept. 11, 2001, in Auburn. She was 73.
Born Dec. 21, 1927, in Centralia, she married
Charles Jones in 1956. She graduated from Centralia High School in 1945 and from St. Peters Hospital School of Nursing in Olympia in 1948. She lived in Auburn since 1948.
She was a registered nurse, having worked at The Boeing Co., Auburn hospital and with area doctors. She was a volunteer at the Auburn Food Bank, where she was recognized with a service certificate. She was a member of Auburn Nurses Club, Irish Heritage Club and a Eucharist Minister at Holy Family Catholic Church in Auburn. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling to Ireland and Reno.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Charles W. Jones; son, Timothy Jones; three brothers; and six sisters. She is survived by her sons, C. Stewart Jones of Federal Way, and David Jones of Enumclaw; daughter, Charlotte Hoxie of Buckley; sister, Teresa Newbury of Centralia; brother, Dennis Hogan of Auburn; eight grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Holy Family Catholic Church in Auburn. Burial will be at Mountain View cemetery in Auburn.

Jack Patterson
Former Maple Valley resident Jack Patterson died of cancer Sept. 10, 2001, at his home in Ione. He was 72.
He was born April 23, 1929, in Burlington, Iowa. Mr. Patterson married
Marian Warren Cook on April 16, 1983, in Altadena, Calif. He lived in Maple Valley for 16 years before moving to Ione four years ago.
Mr. Patterson served in the Navy from 1948 to 1952. He worked as a mechanical engineer for The Boeing Co., Rockwell, Semen's Medical and Phiso Controls. Mr. Patterson was a commercial pilot and enjoyed camping, hiking, backpacking, skiing, and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dana Patterson. Mr. Patterson is survived by his wife, Marian Patterson of Ione; son, Bryan Patterson of Visalia, Calif.; stepsons, Rick Cook of Tuscon, Ariz., and Ron Cook of Colorado Springs, Colo.; stepdaughters, Debi Greene and Deena ViDaurri, both of Los Angeles, Calif.; brother, William Patterson of St. George, Utah; sisters, Betty Jenkins of Cherry Valley, Calif., and Evelyn Ryan of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.

Kylie Michelle Schultz died at birth Sept. 7, 2001, in Renton.

Born Feb. 3, 1925, in Haverhill, England, Mrs. Patrick lived in South King County for 23 years. She was a home maker. Mrs. Patrick married
John Patrick on July 2, 1947 in Haverhill, England.
She is survived by her husband, John Patrick of Auburn; son, Michael Patrick of Auburn; daughters, Susan Fisher of Port Angeles, Judith Bonnet of Auburn, and Penelope Johnson of Sammamish; brother, Edward Baldock of England; and sisters, Joan Gilbert, Kathleen Scott, Peggy Baldock and Hillary Morley, all of England.

Mary Kathryn Earl
Mary Kathryn Earl of Enumclaw died Sept. 11, 2001, in Enumclaw. She was 83.
Born Feb. 27, 1918, in Portsmouth, Ohio, she married
Cloyce Earl and lived in Kent, Quilcene and Buckley before moving to Enumclaw five years ago.
She was a member of Bonney Lake Baptist Church in Sumner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cloyce Earl; and son Bobby Earl. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Braunschweig of Buckley and Diane Earl of Aberdeen; brother Ronald McCreary of Michigan; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Weeks' Whitmore Funeral Home in Buckley. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Weeks' Whitmore Funeral Home. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.
