Shirley Jean Carter
Shirley Jean Carter of Kent died Sept. 15, 2001, in Auburn. She was 71.
Born March 6, 1930, in Nekoosa, Wis., Mrs. Carter lived in the South County area for 50 years.
She was a self-employed tavern owner and was a member of the Kent Eagles.
Mrs. Carter is survived by her husband, William A. Carter of Kent; sons Mike Conwell, Jeffry Conwell and David Conwell, all of Centralia; brothers James and Harlen Diesburg, both of Wisconsin; and sister Rena of Oregon.
A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. today at Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent.
Burial will follow at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.
Ivy E. Owens
Ivy Elnora Owens of Kent died in an auto accident near Greenwater on Sept. 16, 2001. She was 18.
Born July 22, 1983, in Wichita, Kan., she was a 2001 graduate of Kent-Meridian High School and participated in the Running Start Program at Green River Community College. She lived in the South County area for six years.
She worked as an office assistant at Meucci & Associates in Renton.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Edna Owens. She is survived by her parents, Martin and Steffanie Owens of Kent; brother Ben Owens of Kent; grandparents June and Bb Paton of Wichita, Kan., and Beverly and John Houston of Cornelia, Ga.; and great-grandmother Elnora Hale of Wichita, Kan.
A funeral will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Kent United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Hillcrest Burial Park in Kent.

Larry Schwab
Linda Schwab
Larry Schwab, 50, and Linda Schwab, 51, both of Auburn, died in a plane crash Sept. 12, 2001, in Mexico.
Mr. Schwab was born Sept. 14, 1950, in Yakima. Mrs. Schwab was born May 7, 1950, in Seattle. They lived in the Auburn area for more than 30 years. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Auburn.
Memorial donations may be made to the 'Larry and Linda Schwab Memorial Fund,' at any Key Bank branch or a charity of the donor's choice.

John L. Emerick
John L. Emerick of Renton died Sept. 16, 2001, in Renton. He was 80.
Born Dec. 28, 1920, in North Platte, Neb., Mr. Emerick was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, where he served as a radar technician and went on 39 bombing missions. He lived in Renton for 28 years.
Mr. Emerick later worked as a military electrical engineer at The Boeing Co., retiring in 1987 after more than 37 years.
He was a lifelong member of Kent First Christian Church. He enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Boeing employees overnight camping club.
Mr. Emerick is survived by his wife, Margaret Emerick of Renton; sons Douglas Emerick of Mesa, Ariz. and Lars Emerick of Seattle; daughter Tiena Thacker of Winterville, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Kent First Christian Church. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.

Shirley L. Wentworth
Shirley L. Wentworth of Kent died Sept. 17, 2001, in Kent. She was 71.
Born Feb. 23, 1930, in Seattle, Mrs. Wentworth was a homemaker and lived in the South County area most of her life, including 30 years in Skyway.
She was a member of Renton/Auburn Emblem Club and Auburn Ladies of Elks and enjoyed bowling, bingo and antiques.
Mrs. Wentworth was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Wentworth. She is survived by her sons, William Wentworth of Hoquiam and Dale Wentworth of Maple Valley; daughters Vickie Miller of Renton and Kathie Robinson of Kent; sister Doris Brolio of Santa Maria, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Auburn Elks Club. Private burial will be at Washington Memorial Park in SeaTac.

Scott A. Weatherill
Scott Anthony Weatherill of Covington died Sept. 14, 2001, in Yelm. He was 18.
Born Dec. 23, 1982, in Renton, Mr. Weatherill lived most of his life in Covington.
He was a mechanic at Car Tech in Lacey and enjoyed skiing, boating, fishing, the outdoors and cars.
Mr. Weatherill was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jack Weatherill. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Ken and Lynn Weatherill of Kent; mother Jude Morris of Yelm; sister Angela Weatherill of Kent; and grandparents, John and Hjordis Morris of Kent, Ann and Don Walter of Blaine and Patricia Lamphier of Houston, Texas.
The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by burial at Hillcrest Burial Park in Kent.

Gerry L. Galer
Gerry Lane Galer of Kent died Sept. 17, 2001, in Redmond. He was 63.
Born Nov. 16, 1937, in Verdel, Neb., Mr. Galer served in the Army and married
Cheryl Grotberg on June 28, 1969. He lived in Renton and Kent for 33 years.
Mr. Galer was a carpenter for the Carpenters Union, retiring in 1997.
He was a member of the Carpenters Union, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492 and the Berlin Veterans Association. He was past president of the Black Diamond Eagles Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening, and was active in local bands.
Mr. Galer is survived by his wife, Cheryl Galer of Kent; son Gerry Berger of Berlin, Germany; daughters Dionne Dunkel of Maple Valley and Nicole Galer of Renton; sister Annabelle Jardee of Pomeroy; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton.

Kenneth D. Siren
Kenneth Duffy Siren of Maple Valley died Sept. 16, 2001, in Maple Valley. He was 56.
Born April 2, 1945, in Lincoln, Neb., Mr. Siren joined the Army as a medic in 1966 and served in Germany. He earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of North Dakota in 1972 and married
Susan L. Hopkins on June 17, 1982. He lived in Maple Valley for 20 years.
Mr. Siren was a letter carrier for the Redmond Post Office for 25 years. He was vice president of the Dorre Don Community Club and treasurer of the Maple Valley Running Club. He enjoyed playing baseball and hockey in his youth and was an avid sports fan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Protase Siren, in 1976; and mother Aileen Siren, in 1977. Mr. Siren is survived by his wife, Sue Siren of Maple Valley; son Matthew Siren of Maple Valley; daughter Kristin Young of Enumclaw; brother Shane Siren of Mesa, Ariz.; sisters Sheila Hoover of St. Louis, Mo. and Kathy McCade of Bismark, N.D.; and two grandchildren.
Inurnment will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.

Jean I. Olson
Lifelong South County resident Jean Irene Olson died Sept. 14, 2001, at Auburn Regional Medical Center. She was 79.
Born April 4, 1922, in Auburn, Mrs. Olson was a member of the Ray family, which settled in Auburn in 1872.
She worked as a cook at The Boeing Co., retiring in 1984. Mrs. Olson was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a Mariners fan.
Mrs. Olson was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence E. Olson in 1997. She is survived by her sons, Gary Olson, Frank Olson and Ricky D. Olson, all of Auburn, and Lee R. Olson of Texas; daughter Sally Morehead of Auburn; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
No service will be held.

Deborah L. Summers
Former South County resident Deborah Lynn Summers of Tacoma died of Huntington's disease Sept. 3, 2001, in Tacoma. She was 47.
Born Sept. 19, 1953, in Seattle, she married
Michael Smith in 1977; they later divorced. She lived in Auburn and Kent most of her life.
She was a book binder at Cullen Bindery and a member of the Calvary Temple Assembly of God in Auburn. She enjoyed horseback riding. She also enjoyed training and showing horses and dogs.
She is survived by her mother, Jean Slocum of Seattle and sister Diana Louise Lee of Pacific.
No service will be held.
