Nettiebelle `Pete' Russell
Nettiebelle 'Pete' Russell of Kent died Sept. 22, 2001, in Renton. She was 78.
Born Feb. 5, 1923, in Bozeman, Mont., Mrs. Russell lived in Auburn and Kent for 25 years.
Mrs. Russell retired as an account supervisor at Case Power and Equipment.
She was an avid reader and collected English bone china cups, as well as cups from around the world.
She was preceded in death by her son, Scott Andrew Russell, in 1980.
Mrs. Russell is survived by her husband, Jack Russell of Kent; son Steve Russell of Portland, Ore.; daughters Karla Nuss of Renton, Debbie Caffall of Woodland and Judy Metzger of Bellevue; brother J. Paul Petersen of Spokane; sister Loretta Bradek of Des Moines; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn.
Barbara M. Wilson
Barbara Maye Wilson died of heart complications Sept. 22, 2001, at her home in Kent. She was 70.
Born Sept. 3, 1931, in Alamosa, Colo., Mrs. Wilson served at the Los Alamitos Naval Air Station in California for 19 years. She moved to Kent in 1985.
She enjoyed world travel and arts and crafts.
Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her sister, Myrna Perry, and daughter Cynthia Wilson.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Mose Wilson of Kent; son Craig Wilson of Puyallup; daughters Pamela Betancourt of Covington and Denise Wilson of Kent; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent. Burial will follow at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.
Sonja M. Spens
Sonja Margaret Spens of Renton died Sept. 24, 2001, in Redmond. She was 70.
Born Sept. 28, 1930, in Renton, Mrs. Spens graduated from Tahoma High School in 1948. She married
Gordon Spens on Nov. 13, 1973, in Bellevue. She lived in Renton her entire life.
Mrs. Spens was a leader in Alcoholics Anonymous for 33 years and was a member of Puget Sound Dowsers Club. She was owner and operator of Columbia Pacific Underwriters, retiring in 1995.
She also worked for 13 years for Northwest Pacific Bell and 10 years with Columbia Pacific Realty.
She enjoyed gardening, fishing, hiking, traveling, reading, boating, crabbing and astrology.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Gordon Spens of Renton; sons Randy and Kevin Johnson, both of Renton; sister Lilly Wallace of Maple Valley; and one grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton. Memorials can be made to the ALS Association, 27001 Agoura Road., No. 150, Calabasas Hills, CA 91301-5104.
Robert Charles Miller
Robert Charles Miller of Renton died Sept. 16, 2001, in Renton. He was 77.
Born May 17, 1924, in Waterville, Mr. Miller served in the Army Air Force, where he earned his navigator wings. He also served in the Air Force in Korea, training combat crews. He lived in the South County area for 27 years.
Mr. Miller retired in 1987 as supervisor at The Boeing Co. His work at Boeing included involvement in the Minuteman program and building the first stage of Saturn V rockets in New Orleans and other programs. He was a charter member of the Museum of Flight. He was an Eagle Scout and later served as a Scout leader when his son was a scout. Mr. Miller enjoyed traveling and wood-working projects, including making models of World War II aircraft.
Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his wife of more than 53 years, Myrtle Miller; and his brother, Gerald Miller. He is survived by his son, Charles Miller of Renton; daughter Jacqueline Martin of Ruston, La.; and six grandchildren.
At his request, no service will be held.
Inurnment will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.

Donnie R. Stirgus
Donnie Ray Stirgus of Kent died Sept. 23, 2001, in Kent. He was 56.
Born April 29, 1945, in Bremerton, Mr. Stirgus graduated from Garfield High School in Seattle in 1963 and attended Washington State University, where he played football. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and married
Naomi S. Rosenberg on April 26, 1991. Mr. Stirgus lived in the South County area for many years.
He was a baker at the Safeway Bread Plant in Bellevue, where he had worked since 1985. Mr. Stirgus was a member of Teamsters Local 227, was an avid golfer and enjoyed all sports.
Mr. Stirgus is survived by his wife, Naomi Stirgus of Kent; sons, Brian Stirgus of Auburn, Christopher Stirgus of Kent and Jared Jarvi of Seattle; daughter Carmel Butts of Maple Valley; mother, Anne Stirgus of Seattle; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. today, both at Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn.
Jerry B. Pettis
Jerry Bernard Pettis of Kent died Sept. 22, 2001, in Kent. He was 56.
Born June 26, 1945, in Faith, S.D., Mr. Pettis lived in Kent for 35 years.
He was a truck driver for Sealand Trucking for 30 years, retiring in July 2001. He was a member of Teamsters 745 and enjoyed hunting, motorcross, wood carving and square dancing.
Mr. Pettis is survived by his wife, Patti Pettis of Kent; sons Justin Pettis of Kent and Dustin Pettis of Seattle; daughter Jerri Ann Pettis of Kent; parents Marvin and Neva Pettis of South Dakota; brothers Darrell Pettis of South Dakota and Gary Pettis of Arizona; sisters Dala Schauba and Renee Dollahon, both of Texas; grandparents Rodney and Peggy Pettis, and Ira Pettis, all from South Dakota; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Faith Baptist Church in Kent.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Hazel E. Parker
Hazel Edith Parker of Federal Way died Sept. 23, 2001, in Federal Way. She was 90.
Born Aug. 2, 1911, in Seattle, Mrs. Parker graduated from Franklin High School in Seattle in 1928. She moved to Maple Valley in 1945, then moved to Federal Way three years ago.
Mrs. Parker was a homemaker and owned a small farm in Hobart. She was a member of the Tahoma Assembly of God in Maple Valley and the Maple Valley Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening, wood carving, camping and traveling the West Coast.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Parker, in 1980; and daughter Judy Powell in 1993. Mrs. Parker is survived by her sons, Howard Parker of Federal Way and Wilbur Parker of Covington; daughter Margery Hiner of Vashon Island; brother Robert Young of Richland, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Memorial Park in Renton.

Joyce Huseby
Donald Huseby, 72, and Joyce Huseby, 72, both of Auburn, died in an automobile accident Sept. 23, 2001, in Klamath Falls, Ore.
Mr. Huseby was born Jan. 1, 1929, in Auburn and lived there most of his life. Mrs. Huseby was born Jan. 8, 1929, in Newcastle, Neb., and moved to Auburn in 1942. The couple were married
Sept. 26, 1947.
Mr. Huseby graduated from Auburn High School and received bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Eastern Washington State College. He was an elementary school teacher and principal in the Auburn School District for more than 30 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Culture Club and enjoyed carpentry projects.
Mrs. Huseby was a secretary for Jack Sprenger Insurance brokerage in Auburn for many years. She was a member of and served as president of Philanthropic Education Organization, and volunteered at Auburn Regional Medical Center and for charitable organizations. She enjoyed participating in community theater musical productions.
Mr. and Mrs. Huseby were members of First United Methodist Church in Auburn, where they were members of the concert choir. Mr. Huseby sang in the men's quartet ensemble at the church, while Mrs. Huseby was a member of the bell choir.
The Husebys enjoyed golfing, walking, camping, travel, bridge, attending community theater and going to their cabin on Lake Whitman.
The Husebys were preceded in death by their granddaughter, Kari Joyce Huseby. Mr. Huseby was preceded in death by his sister, Constance Koplin. Mrs. Huseby was preceded in death by her brother, Caryol Ehle, and sister Lois Heidy.
The Husebys are survived by their sons, Douglas E. Huseby of Prince Frederick, Md., Lauren W. Huseby of Woodinville and Kenneth M. Huseby of SeaTac; and six grandchildren.
Mr. Huseby is also survived by his brothers, Leonard Huseby of Tacoma, Richard Huseby of Kent, and Thomas Huseby of Graham.
Mrs. Huseby is also survived by her brother, Howard Ehle of Auburn.
Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. Thursday and from 1-5 p.m. Friday at Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Auburn.
