Donald James Knapp

Donald James Knapp of Kent died Oct. 2, 2001, in Kent. He was 89.

Born Feb. 27, 1912, in Snohomish, he married Ruth Byrns Aug. 28, 1938, in Monroe and lived in the South County area for 63 years.

Mr. Knapp worked in janitorial services and was self-employed. He was a member of the Auburn Elks. He enjoyed camping, gardening, fishing and sports.

He was preceded in death by a brother. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Knapp of Kent; son Richard Knapp of Lacey; daughters Jean Coogan of Enumclaw and Janet Rice of Anacortes; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial gathering will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the family home in Kent. Memorials may be made to the donor's charity of choice.

Deborah L. Albertson

Deborah L. Albertson of Auburn died Oct. 2, 2001, in Bellevue. She was 45.

She was born Dec. 20, 1955, in Burien.

Mrs. Albertson was a patient care representative at Group Health Hospital. She held many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed dancing on the beach.

She is survived by her husband, Christopher Albertson; daughter Sheena Lynn Albertson; father David Bryan; mother Charlotte Bryan; brother Scott Bryan; and sister Deann True.

A funeral will be held at noon Saturday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Auburn. Private burial will be at Mountain View cemetery in Auburn.

Ralph E. Ripley

Ralph E. Ripley of Auburn died Sept. 20, 2001, in Auburn. He was 80.

Born July 15, 1921, in Sioux Falls, S.D., he retired from the Army in 1966, after 21½ years of service and lived in Auburn for 34 years.

Mr. Ripley retired in 2000 as a storekeeper from The Boeing Co. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed traveling.

He is survived by his stepdaughters, Belinda Gigliotti of Edmonds, Cynthia Cochran of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Michele Sacco of Danbury, Conn.; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sundayat Price-Helton Funeral Chapel in Auburn. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Mountain View cemetery in Auburn.

Willard B. Thomason

Willard B. Thomason of Kent died Oct. 1, 2001, at Talbot Center in Renton. He was 86.

Born April 8, 1915, in Missouri, he lived in the South County area for 24 years.

Mr. Thomason retired in 1977 as a truck driver. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, operating engineers. He enjoyed flying, working on cars and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVona. He is survived by his daughter, Beverlie Fincher of Kent; three stepsons; many grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Oct. 13 at Bleitz Funeral Home in Seattle. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association.

Clayton R. Spencer

Clayton R. Spencer of Renton died Sept. 29, 2001, in Auburn. He was 70.

Born May 12, 1931, in Butte, Mont., he served in the Navy for four years and lived in Renton for 65 years.

Mr. Spencer retired in 1987, after 38 years of service, as an electrician at The Boeing Co. He was a member, past president and secretary of May Valley Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing and camping.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Trudy (Langlois) Spencer of Renton; sons Clayton Spencer III of Buckley and Charles Spencer of Renton; daughters Deborah Darst of Issaquah and Loretta Spencer of Kent; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A private memorial will be held in Buckley.

Charles Knauer

Charles Knauer of Auburn died Sept. 27, 2001, at Providence Hospital in Seattle. He was 71.

Born May 26, 1930, in Kansas City, Kan., he retired from the Air Force after 23 years of service and lived in Auburn for 22 years.

Mr. Knauer retired in 1993, after 15 years of service with The Boeing Co. He enjoyed planes, cars and traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Karen Knauer of Auburn; son, Erik Knauer of Seattle; and sister, Charlene Nesbitt of Diamond Bar, Calif.

No services were held.

Arrangements were by Wiggen & Sons Funeral Home in Seattle.

Lois Evangiline Hansen

Lois Evangiline Hansen of Des Moines died Sept. 29, 2001, in Des Moines. She was 100.

Born March 18, 1901, in Sioux City, Iowa, she lived in the South County area for 72 years.

A homemaker, she enjoyed weaving and playing the organ and the piano. She was a member of Ark Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in Seattle.

Mrs. Hansen was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Hansen in 1990. She is survived by her nieces, Virginia Schepper of Des Moines, Laura Guinn and Margaret LaBolle, both of Kent and Mary Kryger of California.

A family service will be held. Inurnment was at Greenwood Memorial Park in Renton.

Arrangements were by Edline-Yahn Funeral Chapel in Kent.

Alfred C. Grubb

Alfred 'Al' C. Grubb of Kent died Sept. 25, 2001, in Renton. He was 74.

Born Aug. 27, 1927, in Halfway, Ore., he served in the Navy from 1944 to 1945. He married Betty Arnold June 8, 1956, in Albany, Ore. He lived in Kent for three years.

Mr. Grubb worked as an educator with the Oregon Department of Education. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, the Albany Elks Lodge 359 for 45 years, and the Lions Club. He enjoyed photography and camping.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Grubb of Kent; sons, George Grubb of San Ramon, Calif., and Jay Grubb of Kent; daughter, Barbara Snodgrass of Portland, Ore.; and three grandchildren.

Private burial will be at Hillcrest Burial Park in Kent.

Memorials may be made to Boys and Girls Club of America.

Arrangements are by Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent.

Gerald Lloyd Wilson

Rev. Gerald Lloyd Wilson of Burien died Sept. 24, 2001, at Valley Medical Center in Renton. He was 81.

Born April 4, 1920, in Drums, Pa., he graduated from Bucknell University and Boston University School of Theology. He lived in the South County area for three years.

He retired in 1986, after 34 years of service as the director of Church World Service, having worked in Iowa, South Dakota and Indiana.

He is survived by his sons, Gerald Wilson of Sacramento, Calif., and Jonathan Wilson of Cincinnati, Ohio; daughters Ariel Judge of Burien, Pamela McVey of Indianapolis, Ind., and Susan Farkas of Cummings, Ga.; brother Charles Wilson of Allenstown, Pa.; sister Ethel Kirschner of Drums, Pa.; and 10 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Drums, Pa.

Memorials may be made to Church World Service Crop, P.O. Box 968, Elkhart, IN 46515.

Donald Wayne Morgan

Donald Wayne Morgan of Auburn died Sept. 30, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma. He was 62.

Born March 30, 1939, in Coquille, Ore., he served in the Navy and married Charline Pettelle May 19, 1991. He lived in the South County area for 15 years.

Mr. Morgan worked as a truck driver at DeVries Moving & Storage in Auburn and previously at Atlas Van Lines. He collected antique toy cars and enjoyed driving his truck.

He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Charline Morgan of Auburn; sons Montgomery Morgan of Lacey and Wayne Morgan of Watsonville, Calif.; daughter Debra Lyman of Boulder Creek, Calif.; stepsons Jeff Hahn of SeaTac and Scott Elam of Lakewood; stepdaughters Lisa Willis of Maple Valley andAndrea Mortenson of Tacoma; sister Genny Lacy of Obetz, Ohio; and 21 grandchildren.

A private family memorial will be held. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Jane O'Cain-Porter

Jane O'Cain-Porter of Kent died Sept. 28, 2001, in Seattle. She was 64.

She was born June 12, 1937, in Thomasville, Ala.

She is survived by sons Jimmy, Larry and Michael, all of Seattle; daughters Ann, Janice and Kayla, all of Seattle; brother Thomas Carlton of Mobile, Ala.; sisters Margaret Garrett of Thomasville, Ala., Laura Carlton of Seattle, Marie Perry of Atlanta, Ga., Betsy Richardson and Jean Carlton, both of Mobile, Ala.; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. today at Paradise Baptist Church in Seattle. Burial will be at 1 p.m. today at Kent Hillcrest Burial Park in Kent.

Arrangements are by Personal Alternative Funeral Services in Kent.
