Phyllis Powers Reavis
Phyllis Powers Reavis of Kent died Sept. 29, 2001, in Renton, She was 78.
Born Nov. 24, 1922, in St. Pauls, N.C., she lived in Kent for 26 years.
She taught school for 30 years and was a volunteer at Auburn Regional Medical Center. She was a member of the League of Women Voters.
She is survived by her son, Charles Reavis of Renton; daughter Anne Reavis of Houston; brothers Richard Powers of Louisiana and Neil Powers and Maurice Powers, both of North Carolina; sister Rhoda Collins of North Carolina; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Kent United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Elizabeth Joann LeMay
Former Boeing employee Elizabeth 'Betty' Joann LeMay of Puyallup died Sept. 30, 2001, in Puyallup. She was 69.
Born May 8, 1932, in Gifford, Idaho, she married
Howard LeMay Jan. 9, 1952, in Seattle.
Mrs. LeMay retired in 1989, after 35 years as a clerical worker at The Boeing Co. She was a member of Skyway Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9430 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling, collecting music boxes and Mariners baseball.
She was preceded in death by her son, Dennis LeMay, in 1971. She is survived by husband Howard LeMay of Puyallup; son Steven LeMay of Maple Valley; sisters Rosemary Newman of Boise, Idaho, and Leberta Thompson of Hines, Ore.; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Park.

Alfred G. Modrow
Former South County resident Alfred 'Al' G. Modrow of Shelton died from complications with cancer Oct. 1, 2001, in Shelton. He was 77.
Born Sept. 19, 1924, in Minneapolis, he served in the Army during World War II. He married
Elaine Edwardson June 1, 1954, in Algona and lived in the South County area for 45 years.
Mr. Modrow retired in 1987 as a galvanizer, after 25 years of service, at Northwest Metals in Kent. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, Auburn Eagles and the Teamsters. He enjoyed camping, hunting, clam digging and cutting firewood.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Modrow of Shelton; sons Carl Modrow, Earl Modrow, and Lyle Modrow, all of Shelton; daughters, Eileen Hargan, Vera McVay, and Shirley Meckle, all of Auburn, Gloria Larson of Bonney Lake, and Brenda Murdock of Shelton; brothers Albert Modrow of Bonney Lake, and Billy Modrow and Elmer Modrow, both of Minnesota; sister Clara Bonn of Minnesota; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Harstine Island Community Center in Shelton.

Orlando `Doc' Bressan
Orlando 'Doc' Bressan of Renton died Sept. 30, 2001, in Renton. He was 90.
Born Dec. 10, 1910, in Renton, he was a lifetime resident of Renton.
He retired in 1975 as a sewing machine repairman at Union Special. He was the oldest living member of the Renton Eagles Aerie 172. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and teaching his grandchildren.
Mr. Bressan was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie, in 1960; and second wife, Nellie, in 1993. He is survived by daughters Arlene Williams of Lakebay, Sharon Krutsinger of Arlington, Sally Siggs of Renton and Shirley Brodie of South Carolina; sisters Elina Taylor of Auburn, Eda Delaurenti, Anne Rossman and Mary Sutter, all of Renton; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Renton Eagles. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet cemetery in Renton.

Willard B. Thomason
Willard B. Thomason of Kent died Oct. 1, 2001, at Talbot Center in Renton. He was 86.
Born April 8, 1915, in Missouri, he lived in the South County area for 24 years.
Mr. Thomason retired in 1977 as a truck driver. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, operating engineers. He enjoyed flying, working on cars and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVona. He is survived by his daughter, Beverlie Fincher of Kent; three stepsons; many grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Oct. 13 at Bleitz Funeral Home in Seattle.
Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association.

Clayton R. Spencer
Clayton R. Spencer of Renton died Sept. 29, 2001, in Auburn. He was 70.
Born May 12, 1931, in Butte, Mont., he served in the Navy for four years and lived in Renton for 65 years.
Mr. Spencer retired in 1987, after 38 years of service, as an electrician at The Boeing Co. He was a member, past president and secretary of May Valley Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing and camping.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Trudy (Langlois) Spencer of Renton; sons Clayton Spencer III of Buckley and Charles Spencer of Renton; daughters Deborah Darst of Issaquah and Loretta Spencer of Kent; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A private memorial will be held in Buckley.

Anna Marie Mattern
Anna Marie Mattern of Auburn died Sept. 29, 2001, at St. Frances Hospital in Federal Way. She was 61.
Born Jan. 26, 1940, in Werner, N.D., she married
James J. Mattern July 25, 1959, in Devils Lake, N.D. She moved to Auburn in 1968.
Mrs. Mattern worked at Adessa Auto Auction in Auburn. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Auburn and the Cabini Altar Society. She enjoyed traveling and camping.
She is survived by her husband, James Mattern of Auburn; sons Jeffery Mattern of Washington, Barry Mattern and James A. Mattern, both of Auburn; daughters Penny Beattie of Kent and June McCullum of Auburn; brother Leo Krenzel of Richardton, N.D.; sisters Darlene Sanders of Stevensville, Md., and Kathleen Cole of Walker, Minn.; and eight grandchildren.
The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Auburn.

Frederick Williamson III
Frederick 'Bill' Morwick Williamson III of Kent died Sept. 29, 2001, in Renton. He was 70.
Born July 10, 1931, in Bronx, N.Y., he served in the Air Force during the Korean War and lived in the South County area for 23 years.
Mr. Williamson retired in 1991 as a commercial airline pilot at Polar International Airlines. He had been a pilot for 31 years, having flown in four wars as a civilian pilot. He was a member of American Legion China Post 1 and was a past president of South District Lions Club. He earned a master diver's license in scuba diving, and enjoyed golf and photography.
He was preceded in death by his son, John Williamson in 1974. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Carol Williamson of Kent; and brother, Robert Williamson of Seattle.
Visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Tacoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.

Reginald P. McIntyre
Reginald P. McIntyre of the Skyway/Bryn Mawr area died Sept. 29, 2001, in Renton. He was 81.
Born April 24, 1919, in Seattle, he was one of the first students at Dunlap Elementary School in 1925 and attended Franklin High School. He married
Adeline Kuppinger Nov. 9, 1946, in Sprague and served in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He lived in the South County area since 1946.
Mr. McIntyre retired in 1981, after 10 years of service, as a machinist at The Boeing Co. He also worked at Titan Chainsaw for six years and Mechanical Products for 20 years. He was a 50 year member of the International Association of Machinist local 70 and local 751, a past member of Aircraft Owners Pilot Association, and attended Skyway Baptist Church. He enjoyed flying.
He is survived by his wife, Adeline McIntyre of the Skyway/Bryn Mawr area; son Alan McIntyre of Auburn; daughters Maria Claudon and Dora Mathisen, both of Seattle, and Judith McIntyre; brothers Harvey McIntyre of Burien and Donald McIntyre of Renton; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Faull-Stokes Mortuary in Renton. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.
Kathleen `Kay' M. Kyner
Kathleen 'Kay' M. Kyner of Maple Valley died Sept. 29, 2001, in Kent. She was 76.
Born June 23, 1925, she was the first baby born at the Dayton Hospital. She graduated from Highline High School in 1943 and lived in the Maple Valley for four years.
Mrs. Kyner worked at Pan American Airlines, Foremost Dairy, and Water District 20 before retiring. She was a Mariners fan and enjoyed playing cards.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray F. Kyner in 1994. She is survived by her daughters, Kathe Sweeney, Debbe Vincent and Minda Zollner; sister Toni Cline; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bonney-Watson, Washington Memorial in SeaTac.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Seattle, Habitat for Humanity or American Cancer Society.
Julia Talonen
Julia Talonen of Bryn Mawr died Sept. 28, 2001, at her home. She was 84.
Born Nov. 8, 1916, in Butte, Mont., she lived in South County for 51 years.
She enjoyed arts and crafts, traveling, yard work and other outdoor activities. She was a secretary at The Boeing Co.
No services will be held.
