Dennis G. Despain
Dennis Gardner Despain of Auburn died Oct. 12, 2001, at Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue. He was 50.
Born May 7, 1951, in Lovell, Wyo., Mr. Despain married
Sheila Dawn Morrison on April 21, 1973. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1975 and lived in the South County area for 21 years.
Mr. Despain worked as a lift truck driver for Willamette Industries for 15 years.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a missionary leader. He was an Eagle Scout and a Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed camping, canoeing, woodworking and being a clown at birthday parties.
Mr. Despain is survived by his wife, Sheila Despain of Auburn; sons Ryan Despain of Federal Way and Daniel Despain of Auburn; daughters Noelle Golding of Spokane, Angie Despain of Utah, Missy Despain of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Tara Despain and Shannon Despain, both of Auburn; brothers Lynn Despain and Russell Despain, both of Utah; sisters Marlene McIntire and Norma Despain, both of Spokane; and five grandchildren.
Viewing will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, followed by a funeral service at noon Wednesday at the Star Lake LDS Stake Center in Auburn. Burial will be at Mountain View cemetery in Auburn.

Wilton LaVerne 'Cy' Swartz
Wilton LaVerne 'Cy' Swartz of Renton died Oct. 14, 2001, in Redmond. He was 85.
Born Aug. 15, 1916, in Nezperce, Idaho, Mr. Swartz was a 55-year resident of South County.
He was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Renton and enjoyed photography, camping, and using computers. He was a mechanic.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Swartz of Renton; sons, Bill Swartz of Aloha, Ore., and Robert Swartz of Renton; daughter, Dianne Dawley of Renton; brothers, Merlin Swartz of Burlington and Elton Swartz of Sacramento, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from noon to 7 p.m. today at Greenwood Funeral Home in Renton.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church in Renton.

Richard R. Cardin
Richard Roland Cardin of Renton died Oct. 13, 2001, in Renton. He was 80.
Born April 2, 1921, in Cherry Hill, Mass., Mr. Cardin served in the Army in World War II with the Flying 8th Army Air Corps, stationed in England.
He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Renton. He was also a member of the International Association of Machinists and the Renton VFW. He was a machinist at The Boeing Co. for 37 years.
Mr. Cardin was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Molly Cardin, in 1999; and daughter Virginia Wieman, in 1979. He is survived by his two sons, Richard Cardin of Duvall and Peter Cardin of Renton; daughters, Madelaine Hicks of Snohomish, Jacqueline Cardin of Graham, and Maureen Vig of Tacoma; brothers, Lawrence Cardin of Massachusetts, Albert Cardin of Florida, and Cicile Martin of California; sisters, Gertrude Puruse and Dorothy Cardin, both of Quebec, Canada, Martha Sullivan and Cyril Cardin, both of Ontario, Canada, and Alexina Cardin of Massachusetts; and seven grandchildren.
The rosary was said Tuesday at Faull-Stokes Mortuary in Renton. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park.
Linda M. Johnson
Linda M. Johnson died Oct. 15, 2001, at her home in Covington. She was 43.
She was born May 28, 1958, in Harlowton, Mont.
Mrs. Johnson worked as an executive director for the Kent Downtown Partnership for 10 years and received many awards for her work on programs promoting economic development and revitalization of the downtown area. She was a member of the Kiwanis Club and enjoyed painting, drawing and reading.
She is survived by her husband, Gregg Johnson, and son Cristopher Johnson, of Covington; parents George and Delores Birgenheier of Billings, Mont.; and sister, Beverly. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kent Senior Center.

William R. Goeman Sr.
Former South County resident William Robert Goeman Sr. of Marysville died Oct. 10, 2001, in Marysville. He was 77.
Born April 22, 1924, in Hayti, S.D., Mr. Goeman served in the Army during World War II and had lived in Kent, Auburn and Federal Way for 50 years.
He was a contractor and had worked as a superintendent at Baugh Construction and Timberland Custom Homes. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, fishing, playing pinochle and cooking.
Mr. Goeman is survived by his wife, Judy Goeman of Marysville; sons Gary Goeman of Marysville and William Goeman of Berkeley, Calif.; daughters Gayle Richards of Kent and Patricia Sanders of Marietta, Ga.; brothers Jerry Goeman of Chehalis, Gene Goeman of Kent and Donald Goeman of Mossyrock; sisters Carol Purtle of Brinnon, Elizabeth Sims of Kennewick, Sharon Parks of Puyallup and Vivian Bumann of Missouri; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held from 1-5 p.m. Saturday at the family home in Marysville.

Calvin G. Jones
Calvin G. Jones of Menan, Idaho, died of leukemia on Oct. 13, 2001, in Salt Lake City. He was 75.
Born Sept. 27, 1926, in Menan, Idaho, Mr. Jones served in the Navy and lived in Auburn for 25 years.
He was a teacher at Auburn High School for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He enjoyed golf and traveling.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his daughter, Vonna Lee; and brothers Harold Jones and La Von Jones. He is survived by daughters Darci Jones of Orting and Janine Edelbrock of Spokane; brothers Cecil Jones of Garden Valley, Calif. and Kenneth Jones of Garfield, Idaho; sisters Estalene Andrus of Grant, Idaho, Cleo Muehlfeit of Coltman, Idaho, Audrey Ellingson of Salt Lake City, and Shirley Poole of Menan, Idaho; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Eckersell's Funeral Home in Rigby, Idaho. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the LDS Church in Menan, Idaho, followed by burial at 12:30 p.m. at Pioneer cemetery in Grant, Idaho.

Eleanor W. Chavre
Eleanor W. Chavre, a longtime Maple Valley resident and community activist, died Sept. 27, 2001. She was 89.
Born July 15, 1912, in Larksville, Penn., she moved to the Seattle area in 1952 and had lived in Maple Valley since 1954.
Mrs. Chavre was involved in local school and community programs and until a few years ago was regularly driving to collect and deliver food, arts supplies and other donations for charities. During the 1950s and 1960s, she coordinated the annual PTA-sponsored ``White Christmas'' drives in local schools to collect food and toys for families in need, and was active in other programs benefiting children.
Taking classes one at a time over the years, Mrs. Chavre received an Associate of Arts degree at Green River Community at age 75. Through a GRCC Foundation arts appreciation program for children, Mrs. Chavre for some years visited local elementary schools with prints of artworks to display and work with students on art projects.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nilkanth R. Chavre, in 1972. She is survived by sons Daniel Chavre and Frederick Chavre, both of Maple Valley; daughter Carol Ann Nathenson of Riverside, Calif.; sister Frances ``Dick'' Nowland of Tonasket; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a niece and close friend, Beverly McEldowny of Renton.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kent Seventh-day Adventist Church.
The family suggests remembrances be to charities or programs supporting children and families.
Cremation was under direction of Bleitz Funeral Home in Seattle.
Robinette Luella Joos
Robinette Luella Joos of Renton died Oct. 16, 2001, in Renton. She was 82.
Born Oct. 19, 1918, in Fessenden, N.D., she lived in the South County area for 45 years.
A homemaker, Mrs. Joos was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Renton and the Lutheran Missionary Women's League. She enjoyed cooking and baking.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Joos, in 1982, and by brothers Fred and Harold; and sisters Lorriane and Dorothy. She is survived by her sons, Bruce Neil Joos of Renton and Dr. Paul Joos of Bellevue; sisters Helen Zuber of Yakima, Hilda Glick of Hudson, Wis., and Lida Dell Kessler of Fessenden, N.D.; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Renton. A private inurnment will be held.
Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or to Providence Hospice of Seattle.

Laddie Fitzgerald Stewart
Laddie Fitzgerald Stewart of Kent died Oct. 15, 2001, at Providence Medical Center in Seattle. He was 78.
He was born June 11, 1923, in Missoula, Mont. He married
Dona M. Blankenship on Sept. 22, 1946, and had lived in the South County area for 40 years.
Mr. Stewart was a teacher at Foster High School in Tukwila for 22 years, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed woodworking, photography and playing golf.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dona Stewart on March 2, 2001. He is survived by his daughter, Paula Cole of Fontana, Calif.; brothers William Stewart of Seattle, Willis Stewart of Pomona, Calif., and Ben Stewart of Arizona; sisters Ruthella Knudson of Stillaquamish and Helen Hunt of Missouri; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. today at Yahn & Son Funeral Home in Auburn. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Des Moines. Burial will be at Gethsemane cemetery in Federal Way.
Memorials may be made to the Red Cross September 11 Disaster Relief Fund.
Mike Greystoke
Mike Greystoke of Kent died Oct. 11, 2001, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was 44.
Born April 15, 1957, in Szczecin, Poland, he lived in the South County area for 11 years.
Mr. Greystoke was employed as a seaman on a fishing boat.
He is survived by his son, Mike Greystoke Jr. of Kent; and father, Zbigmeew Fryze of Poland.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Yahn & Son Funeral Home in Auburn.
Virginia L. 'Sis' Brown
Virginia L. ``Sis'' Brown died Oct. 16, 2001, at her Maple Valley home. She was 83.
Born Oct. 6, 1918, in Seattle, she married
Neil Brown on Dec. 24, 1956, and lived in the South County area for 46 years.
Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and camping.
She was preceded in death by her husband on March 30, 1995. Mrs. Brown is survived by her son, Hugh Brown of Maple Valley; daughters Virginia Towsley of Tracy, Calif., Rae Smith of Maple Valley, Shirley Warden of Walton, Ore., and Vallorie Clark of Douglasville, Ga.; sister Jane Palmer of Shelton; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Hobart-Maple Valley cemetery.
