Ray R. Odell
Ray Robert Odell of Auburn died Oct. 13, 2001, in Auburn. He was 93.
Born Nov. 10, 1907, in Snoqualmie, Mr. Odell married
Jean M. Bullard in 1927 in Bellingham. He lived in Enumclaw from 1944 to 1972 before moving to Auburn.
Mr. Odell was an educator for 40 years. He had been an assistant principal at Enumclaw High School and later became principal at Bryan Kibbler Elementary School in Enumclaw, retiring in 1972. He had played semipro baseball in Portland, Ore., and had coached sports in Raymond and Enumclaw.
He was a lifetime member and past Master of Crescent Lodge 109, F. & A.M., Order of the Eastern Star; Order of Amaranth Golden Light Court 84, and Kiwanis Club of Enumclaw. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports.
Mr. Odell was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Jean M. Odell, in 1998; and son Keith Odell. He is survived by his daughter, Dona R. Fristoe of Auburn; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
Inurnment will be at Menlo cemetery in Menlo, Wash.

Loyal Gudgel
Loyal Gudgel of Federal Way died Oct. 17, 2001, in Seattle. He was 83.
He was born Nov. 7, 1917, in Boggy Depot, Okla.
Mr. Gudgel owned and operated Burien Radio and Television from the early 1950s until he retired in the mid-1970s. He built a boat and used it for commercial salmon fishing in Alaska. He enjoyed panning and digging for gold.
Mr. Gudgel is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth Gudgel of Federal Way; daughters Leila Sterba of Federal Way and Sheila Rodriquez of Burien; brother Doyal Gudgel of Seattle; sister Leoma Tibbitts of Spokane; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held. Burial will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley.
Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association. Arrangements are by Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn.
Madelen A. Rigg
Madelen A. Rigg died Oct. 18, 2001. She was 78.
She was born in Dec. 3, 1922, in Portland, Ore. She was raised in Spokane and moved to the Seattle area in 1942. She worked for many years in her daughter's hair salon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee, in 1987, after 45 years of marriage.
She is survived by her daughters, Ginger and Darlene; son Robert; 14 grandchildren; and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Bonney-Watson Parker Chapel in Burien. The funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the same place.
Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arthur Ballestrasse
Arthur Ballestrasse of Renton died Oct. 19, 2001. He was 85.
Born April 20, 1916, in Cumberland, he lived in Renton for 61 years and was a carpenter.
He was a member of Renton Eagles and the Carpenters Union. He played semi-pro baseball and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Ballestrasse of Renton; sons Roy Ballestrasse of Fall City and Rex Ballestrasse of Renton; daughter Gloria Roeder of Renton; brother Eugene Ballestrasse of Renton; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon-5 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Park.
Remembrances may be made to the Renton Fire Department or Providence Hospital.
Dixie Dean Inman
Dixie Dean Inman of Rockham, S.D., died Oct. 15, 2001. She was 67.
Born Aug. 21, 1934, in Okeene, Okla., she lived in Kent for 35 years and was a financial worker for the Department of Social and Health Services until retiring in 1993.
She enjoyed playing darts, bingo, cross stitching, and especially fishing. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and LaVerda Moyle; son Marty Rogers; granddaughter Serina Haynes; and great-granddaughter Ashley McFarlane.
She is survived by daughters Deborah Davis of South Dakota, Dawn McFarlane of Kent and Donette Ittner of Tacoma; step-daughters Char Smith of South Prairie, Susie Vasfaret of Federal Way and Shari Jones of Algona; step-son Rocky Rogers of Federal Way; brother Walter Bailey of New Mexico; sister Ella Mae Martinmaas of South Dakota; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Price Helton Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Price Helton.
Ernest J. Janet
Ernest J. Janet of Kent died Oct. 20, 2001, in Renton. He was 79.
Born April 1, 1922, in Alderwood, Mr. Janet married
Leasha Tyerman on Oct. 17, 1941, in Black Diamond. He served in the Army Air Forces in World War II and lived in Kent for 60 years.
He was an iron worker and superintendent at Bethlehem Steel for 48 years. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
Mr. Janet is survived by his wife of 60 years, Leasha Janet of Kent; son Ernie Janet of Newcastle; daughter Sharon Zielsdorf of Grand Coulee; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Washington Memorial Park in SeaTac, followed by a 1 p.m. funeral at the cemetery.
Memorials can be made to Iron Workers Local 86 for widows and orphans or to the Washington Education Association.

Mildred T. Anderson
Mildred T. Anderson of Milton died Oct. 21, 2001, in Puyallup. She was 94.
Born May 27, 1907, in Enid, Okla., Mrs. Anderson was a homemaker and lived in Kent for three years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold N. Anderson Sr., and son Harold N. Anderson Jr.
Mrs. Anderson is survived by her son, Samuel K. Anderson of Buckley; brothers Bill Townes of Albuquerque, N.M. and Alford Townes of Hayward, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Inurnment will be at West Lawn Memorial Park in Eugene, Ore. A graveside service will be held Thursday at the cemetery.

Tom A. Kerr
Former longtime Renton resident Tom A. Kerr of Olympia died Oct. 11, 2001, in Olympia. He was 86.
Born Jan. 20, 1915, in Issaquah, Mr. Kerr moved to Renton with his family in 1917 and was a member of the inaugural first-grade class at Henry Ford School. He graduated from Renton High School in 1934 and married
LoRayne Bates on Jan. 3, 1939, in Renton. He lived in Renton for 60 years before moving to Olympia.
Mr. Kerr was a delivery boy for Smithers Dairy when he was in the fourth grade. He later worked in various Seattle lumber mills, at the Renton cement plant, and for the forest service in Idaho before retiring after 40 years as a steel shop superintendent at Pacific Car & Foundry.
He enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening, school sports and youth activities.
Mr. Kerr is survived by his wife, LoRayne Kerr of Olympia; daughters Connie Baker and Elaine Greenhagen, both of Olympia; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Greenwood cemetery in Renton. A celebration of Mr. Kerr's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Washington Land Yacht Harbor in Olympia.

Richard E. Langlois
Richard Earl Langlois of Renton died of leukemia Oct. 19, 2001, in Renton. He was 70.
Born Dec. 22, 1930, in Seattle, Mr. Langlois served in the Navy and lived in Renton for 50 years.
Mr. Langlois was a mixologist. He was a member of East Renton Community Church, and the Renton VFW and Eagles. He enjoyed golfing, music and Husky football.
Mr. Langlois is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bonni Langlois of Renton; sons Jerry Langlois, Michael Langlois and Bobby Langlois, all of Renton; daughters Denise Jackson of Renton, and Melody Morefield and Robyn Agnew, both of Auburn; mother Elva Langlois of Sedro Woolley; sisters Darlene Godfrey and Trudey Spencer, both of Renton; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Tahoma National cemetery in Maple Valley. Arrangements are by American Memorial Funeral Directors in Renton.
Leola F. Parsnow
Leola Francis Parsnow of Kent died Oct. 19, 2001, in Burien. She was 85.
Born Feb. 20, 2001, in Brashear, Mo., Mrs. Parsnow lived in Kent for 30 years.
A housewife, she had worked at White's Shoe Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1969. Mrs. Parsnow enjoyed beachcombing, dancing and sewing.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon Parsnow of Kent; daughters Betty Spragg of SeaTac and Connie Roberts of Bellevue; sisters Dorothy Lewis of Kirksville, Mo., and Evelyn Munson of Fort Madison, Mo.; and a grandchild.
A private family service will be held at the ocean in Westport.

Karen D. Abbe
Former longtime Kent resident Karen Dawn Abbe of Hansville, died Oct. 19, 2001, in Poulsbo. She was 53.
Born Dec. 3, 1947, in Beaverton, Ore., she married
Reynold Abbe on Aug. 17, 1968, in Seattle. She lived on the Kent East Hill for 27 years before moving to Hansville in 1999.
Mrs. Abbe was an office clerk at First Interstate and Wells Fargo Banks from 1972 to 1995. She was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church in Renton and enjoyed gardening and volunteering at church.
She is survived by her husband, Reynold Abbe of Hansville; sons Jonathan Abbe and Edward Abbe, both of Kent; parents Stuart Miller Sr. of Portland, Ore. and Patricia Miller of Fife; brothers Stuart Miller Jr. of Republic, Robert Miller of Belmont, Calif., Richard Miller of Kent and Bryan Miller of Renton; sisters P. Lynette Brume of Federal Way, Kit Anderson of Spokane, Renee Lee of Dolton, Neb. and Kim O'Leary of Pomona, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, followed by a 1 p.m. memorial service at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Renton.
